Makhachevs best move in that fight was passing the guard direct. No waiting, not letting Oliveira get the chance to get his head back after the rock. A pure direct move, superbly done.

Its the same with Islam as it was with Khabib in that part. Their defensive striking is elite for MMA, while their offensive is decent. On the ground Islam thinks defense first and he is elite, Khabib was thinking offense first, but only after establishing a dominant position. Position first, then attack. Both have a far higher fight IQ than Oliveira for sure. Fighters who only think offensively like Charles are super exciting to watch, but none of them has a high fight IQ, that is Charles's biggest weakness.

Because Islam's path to victory is already defined. On the feet he just needs to be defensively sound, and wait for Charles to take a risk. Whether that opens him up to a counter like in the first fight, or a takedown. On the ground, he just needs to do what he always does and stay slow and methodical and not take needless risks. As long as he does those two things, he beats Olives every time. Olives is the one who most likely needs to take a risk in order to win. He needs to open up his guard and hope that Islam falls into a sub. He needs to throw kicks or big strikes to get reactions out of Islams defense. It's still like 70-30 for Islam, but it's not like Islam can't make a mistake too.

You are wrong. His strength is pressure from the start and he should have made better use of his reach and left the Russian frustrated in the exchange so that when the Russian tried to grab his legs he could apply his deadly guillotine. He really wasn't in that fight in terms of attacking. It seems to me that he fell into the Russian trap and let his anger speak for him through the speeches of Khabib and Islam. He came in throwing disjointed and confused blows and apparently hadn't corrected mistakes from other fights. The flying knee was completely wrong and that's why he suffered a knockdown. Against Dariush we already saw an evolution of these errors. He improved his defense against blows to the face and did not suffer knockdown. It wasn't Dariush who took him down, it was him who tried to take down Beni at the wrong time and with his body crooked and ended up on the bottom. I believe Charles will win by submission. If his hand goes in and the Russian feels like he felt with the volkanovski, Charles will catch him and if he doesn't hit he will go sleep. Charles will shock the world again and show that the lightweight lion still roars

The Khabib Gym dudes, they fight clean, structured, disciplined. They don't do wild shit and don't make simple mistakes. Elsewhere in the world (except maybe thailand) fighters are more "creative" (I'm not sure if its actual creativity or main-character-syndrom sometimes), but they make a lot of mistakes that the absolutely disciplined fighters take advantage of. I've seen this in almost every Khabib fight. Thailand is a bit of an outlier because they got clean/disciplined down so perfectly that they can start getting creative on top, which is why thai boxing is so freakin amazing to watch.

If Charles can strengthen his defense on the feet, I think he’s got a chance. I really think he needs to stay off the ground and out of the clinch. He’s got power and he should utilize it. Maybe keep the distance, kick the legs, sharpen the striking and striking defense, and get creative. I think that’s his path to victory here. Volk got creative on the feet (like the feint jab, then switched to southpaw and hit Islam with a lead hook) which dropped him, and gives you a chance to finish him. Charles has the power to put him down, or at least drop him. Charles could even possibly submit Islam if he hurts him bad enough.

The problem is that Olives mental game is razor thin. Who actually knows how he feels, but if he gets back in there and doesn't have luck on the feet; and gets neutralized on the ground again; what is he going to tell himself then that is going to change the outcome? Now if he goes in there and lands a big shot right away, or is able to threaten a sub early on; then maybe he can ride his confidence. But that would've been true in the first fight too. So it's not like it's really different. The main difference is that Islam knows that as long as he stays safe, and doesn't force anything dangerous; then he can follow the same route to victory that he managed already.

The guys he's beat? No one Charles has beaten on his way to the title went on to have another win in the top 15. Khabib still has 3 pre-title opponents still active in the promotion. The opponents they have in common Khabib ran through while Charles was dropped by and had to lay down and recover. So Charles is not even close. He's an exciting fighter for sure, but the resumes are not comparable. Even Islam's pre-title wins from the past 3 years have aged extremely well in comparison. Even Bobby Green is now a top 10 LW and Hooker, Dober, and Moises are all still competitively relevant in or just outside the top 15. So I would say Charles needs to emphatically beat down Islam in this rematch for those two to even be comparable, let alone Khabib. Great breakdown though. You gonna do Usman vs Primus?

I mean, Islam already has a decent argument for #2. No one else in the promotions history has beaten #2 and #1 PFP back to back, except Islam. He ended two of the longest win strikes in UFC history, back to back. And is currently on one of the longest win streaks in UFC history himself. The only thing you really can't give to Islam is longevity. He's beaten competition at the very peak of the sport, but he hasn't been doing it for as long as some of the other greats. If he managed to be Olives again, it'll be tough not to give him the #2 spot. But it's reasonable to place him there already.

Bro your fight breakdowns are the greatest. I love the fact that you say it how it is and despite who the fighters are your not biased. This is why I love this channel so much. Also I think the greatest every is subjective. If you say it’s Charles I think your right even though I don’t agree. For me it has to be khabib. If Charles lost to islam there is no way he beats khabib. I just don’t see it. I feel like Islam and khabib are just a hard fight for him. Charles was saved so many times in fights because no one wanted to go to the ground with him so he could recover from knockdowns. Now you have Islam and khabib who will go wherever the fight goes. I think that takes away a big advantage Charles had over everyone else he fought. I just can’t call Charles the goat of that division if I think someone else would easily beat them.

He did shockingly well in the stand up vs Volk too. I can no longer disrespect or sleep on his and khabib's caveman style of kickboxing. Makachev will likely finish him again cos charles quits. its in his blood imo charles is a lesser (homeless mans)version of diaz at 155 or tony ferg 5yrs ago. DIaz would beat him if they fought today. likely by sub too cos charles loves to tap and he over-commits to his strikes and under commits to his sub attempts. He'd be better than all of them, were it not for his weasel heart

@@tankionline9097 u talkin bout Diaz? Cos theres been many a time when Charles got put down and almost chose to stay down cos of lack of heart. Also Diaz didnt ever once jump guard like a ho. Charles tries it almost every fight, he'll throw a flying missionary at his opponent. No matter how bad i get beat up, my pride would never let me do that. Its the most embarrassing shit I've ever seen. That being said I will root for him to beat makachev. He makes rookie mistakes against the top tier guys, so I wouldn't bet large on him
