I tried this today and it completely fixed my "low/left" issue. I swore my sights were off and even brought my sight pusher tool to the range today to adjust them. No need to adjust them. I needed the adjustment.....not the sights. Great video and thank you!

I had a freakin former arm dude try to fix the front sight of my 22. LR by hitting it with a damn wrench. Of course, the damn thing broke. 🤦‍♂️ and when I was firing it it worked perfectly. He was like "I have no idea how your hitting the target" like dude, you dont beat on someone else's gun with a damn wrench 🤦‍♂️😫

As a fellow low left shooter, the support hand info on this video helped SO much. Also trying to break the trigger as a surprise to yourself can help as well in the beginning stages. After you start to get comfortable shooting like that, then start to work on your speed. One day it will click and you will be popping off a-zone shots like a pro! :)

I've been a Deputy Sheriff now for 30+ years, still working patrol. This was by far the best video I have seen regarding grip and its overall importance. And to all the comments about adrenalin, fear, etc. - having been there a few times unfortunately - yes being able to control those things makes a huge difference in how one handles a shooting event. I'm 58 and have been shooting all my life, it was (well, still is), a way of life for my family. Don't remember the first time I shot a rifle or a pistol but was squirrel hunting by myself by the time I was 8 and had a pistol of my own by age 12. This is the best explanation of pistol gripping I have ever seen. Always something out there to learn, thank you!

@@mattgeiger9988 - Dry fire. It is far easier to focus on the sights and because you can isolate the issue, it is easier to adjust and fix it. Saves money and time as well.

Thank you! Thank you! I am ex-military (AIRBORNE!!), and a lifetime shooter (40+ years). I have always been taught how to hold my pistol, but was never taught WHY. This makes all the difference. As a result I didn't realize what bad habits I developed, and why it made a difference in my shooting. This means it kind of looked like I was doing things correctly, but in reality I had errors in how I was doing it. This means that I also had the classic problem of always shooting a little low and to the left. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! :)

The left hand (for right hand shooters) gripping down harder than the right hand, is such an important fundamental. I started doing this at the range last week and my groups tightened up so much. Great info!

Thank you, made perfect sense. I'm a fairly new shooter and have hit a wall with accuracy past 15yds. This is a game changer in diagnosing my error that had consistently been slightly down and to the left. Especially with compacts. Much appreciated!!!

That is where the hand exercises he mentioned in the video come in hand. Strength training your hands is a must, especially if you're new to firearms.

As far as I know, this the first time that I have watched your channel. I watch many gun videos, so I have no idea how have missed yours. Now to my point. Your training in how to grip the handgun was so clear and practical. Thank you. I'll search your channel for anything on revolvers. I'm considering a revolver for back up.

Watched this video 3times and you absolutely hit the nail with these tips, I concentrate my tough grip onto support (left) hand and place it a bit twisted with thumb aiming to front in parallel with barell and let the right hand relax with pinky almost loose to let trigger finger move separately and easily - and this seriously MUCH improve my low left issue. Thanks!

Thank you ... I messed around with this the last time I was at the range and this video helped to put words to what I was doing. While I had a consistent not very tight shot group - it was consistently off the black. This meant that while aiming at the head, I probably took off the targets ear way to many times for comfort. In my defense - I was kinda experimenting to deal with aging hands, I hadn't been on a handgun range since 2013, and I was consistent, just consistently off. Regardless - the video was great solid knowledge and my next range day should be remarkably better because I can snap cap my way to a solid grip and simply test 1 or 2 positions to figure out what works best. Once again - thank you.

Excellent simplified way to demonstrate my brother... You and Kim did well. Loved it. I am a poor shooter but after watching your video, I saw the mistakes I have been guilty of all this time. My support grip was out of place.

I went to the range last weekend and noticed I was making nice small groups but always low left. I'm going to go the range again and practice what you showed here. Thanks for the great video.

Thank you. I think this is the best grip video I've seen and I doubt that it could be improved on. One thing came to mind that you might want to address in another video, proper grip for small pocket guns. They're kind of a different world. Ironically, a few minutes ago I just watched a video on Lucky Gunner about pocket guns. They pointed out that the pocket guns are huge sellers (so a grip video would help a lot of people). Because of some circumstances that I share with others, I just bought one (S&W Bodyguard .380 - felt much better in my hand than the LCP) so the timing of that video was great. I've been dry firing that thing constantly (I usually put a thousand "air" rounds through a gun before firing a real round) and the first thing I noticed was that the grip I normally use for a Ruger LC9 or a Ruger SR (the other carry guns) had to change, a lot. I doubt that I'm alone. Could you address proper grip these small guns sometime in the future? There is probably a large audience for it.

I went to the range last Sunday, I saw an immediate change instantly!!! MANY THANKS AGAIN....

So happy I came across your video. New shooter, I was dropping left, went home and dry fired paying close attention to movement of the pistol. Seeing how I would drop I began tightening my grip and strengthening my hands and wrist. I go for walks while bouncing a basketball from one hand to another.... my way of getting not only grip strength but also arms, improving coordination and cardio! Also I really appreciated seeing Kim grips as it is very different from males grip, and seeing her grip as mine is was reassuring I’m on the right path!

This is the best most comprehensive video I have seen about handgrip. Thank you so much, you have helped me immensely.

Excellent video! I've been struggling with "low left," especially the farther I am from the target. I purchased a cheap set of Gold's Gym grip strengtheners. They have nice padding on the handles and the spring wasn't too tight. I usually do four sets of three exercises each day (on each hand). One set consists of the usual squeeze x 10; on the 11th squeeze I hold it tight for ten seconds; and then another set of 10 squeezes, but this time, I keep my index finger pointed "at the target" and try not to move it at all as I'm squeezing. For those of you who haven't tried - Neil's lessons in this video are spot on. Try squeezing a grip strengthener without moving your extended index finger. For me, I can definitely tell the difference at the range! Now, about that trigger control...

I am new to shooting pistols. Took a firearms handling class and the NRA online pistol class. I spent a lot of time studying grip, trigger pull, and sight alignment from KZread videos, especially Jerry and Lena Miculek videos. Taking nothing away from the Miculek videos, this is by far the best, most detailed, most informative and clear explanation of proper grip that I have encountered so far, bar none. If someone needs a good and practical explanation of proper pistol grip technique, this is it. Look no further.

I can’t tell you how many times i revert back to this video when i shoot low and left and watch this go back to the range and shoot the lights out and stacking those groups on top one another. Thank You and Your Wife so so much….❤

From a die-hard Weaver stance shooter this is excellent information. When you were showing the difference between the loose and tight grips I could literally see the absorption of the recoil shock in your shoulders rather than in the gun itself. Keeping on target seems to be much easier your way. Man, I have some range work to do. I'm a pretty good shot using Weaver, but after this and a few other of your videos I think I'm going to give this style a deeper look. Thanks for a damned good video

Jerry Miculik talks about why they went to the isosolise stance. One reason is, you can't walk forward and fire in the Weaver stance without bobbing.

As I've been doing my homework to buy my first firearm (M&P 2.0 40 Cal 4.25") I've seen tons of videos about the right ammo to take to the woods, for self-defense, EDC, and what have you, I realized how proper gun grip is paramount, and with me basically being a newbie, I didn't want to develop bad habits before I even started. I've only seen a couple of videos about the proper grip, and this video is so good, I've learned quite a bit and I'm in a better position now than I was two weeks ago. Excellent job, well done, and as a lefty, I thank you for also offering some handy tips. I have medium to small size hands, and the M&P 2.0 .40 S&W gun fits great and it's the perfect size, for me. I did handle one at my local gun shop. I've shot guns before, but never owned one. This is why I want to get good with what I get. I plan on getting my CCW permit and enrolling in some self defense classes as well.

I had this exact issue, firing low and to the left as a right handed shooter. It has almost and still can cost me my job as a Law enforcement officer due to our Qualification requirement's where were required to conduct failure drills with two rounds to the chest and one to the head at various distances. This was done 4 times with the minimum 3 hits to the head (head area is a little bigger then a 5x8 card) if at the end of those failure drills and you didn't meet the requirement's you still had to finish the qualification, (50 rds total) knowing you already failed. We were given 2 more attempts to pass and if you didn't you were terminated or placed on leave for 30 days, pending requalification. My point of aim was always high and to the right to compensate for hitting low and to the left. I will definitely try this new grip technique.

Milvet, hope it worked out for you. I am former LEO and now Range officer where Federal and Local LEO's come in. Very common problem with shooting left. The video explained it better than anything and from my experience when I show those left sided shooters the proper technique about 90% of their issues disappear during the same range session.

This is such a great video. I've got it bookmarked so I can come back and review it time and again to make sure I'm getting my best control.

Rolling the non dominant hand and avoiding a gap were well worth the $100 I recently spent on a lesson from an NRA certified instructor. The Marine Corps taught me how to shoot decades ago and am an avid shooter but if you want to be better (at anything) it’s always good to go back to the basics. Thanks for these well thought out videos that cover everything shooters need to improve. Taking a video of you shooting is also helpful. Semper Fi

I watched your videos and just tried your advice on the proper grip...made a world of difference on my accuracy and i sure needed help understanding what i was doing wrong. Went from 8" groups to 3" @ 7yds and all over the paper to 4"-5" groups @ 12 yds. I use a CZ 75 SP01 ,so i know the gun will be more accurate than i could be but i'm catching up to its' potential.

Also, dry practicing helps soooooo much! You can actually watch how you move it when you dry shoot. This and my left hand grip fixed everything for me. At first I was really wanting to save my ammo so I wouldn't practice too but now since I've found ammo at Gunsmokeammo.com! yaaay me!

In my experience as an NRA instructor...the reason most shoot low left is because they pull the trigger with the crease of the finger rather than the pad of the finger....hard habit to break Good vid though

But that's why they miss at the range, a calm, controlled, safe, predictable environment. In the real world the reason people miss is because they have adrenaline pumping through their veins, their breathing gets fast and shallow, their hands shake, they target fixate completely ignoring the front iron sight, and lose all trigger discipline. So its all fine and dandy to become really accurate at the range, but you can still do that and then have it all be a waste if you're not desensitized to high-stress confrontations.

Yeah...agree….but if you don't have any aiming skills it is pure luck if you hit something anyway. I practice but you're 100% right...when it comes to mattering it's going to be a juggle between fear, excitement and skill...and a hell of a lot of luck that you get the chance to even get a shot off. People have no idea...it's never the guy yells at you and says he's going to shoot at you....timing is pretty much everything....luck plays a very big part in it like it or not...without military experience it's nearly impossible to get desensitized….god Bless our brave men and women in the military..past and present

@@awittypilot8961 Its one reason I like lasers though for home defense. Usually you're indoors AND its low-light, a double-whammy for high laser effectiveness (and poor iron sight acquisition), and you may not have your glasses to make a proper sight picture or be too pumped on adrenaline to ignore the threat and focus on that front sight, so point shooting with that confirmation green laser is more idiot/stress proof. IMO airsoft is great for practicing high-stress shooting. BTW, I thought of the hands thing because only about 5 weeks ago I had my blinker on patiently waiting quite a while for a car to back out to take the only spot at a pub and some jerk swooped right in who had just entered the lot. I was annoyed but not hostile thinking he maybe didn't even see me, so confronted him and calmly told him he stole the spot from me and that's unacceptable. The guy's hands were almost instantly visibly shaking to the point I had to tell him I'm not mad but would appreciate if he moved.

I was a deputy sheriff for many years and I believe we trained very well did live shooting drills,shoot or don't shoot,so I agree the military helps but I believe police trains better in the legalities in a shooting military is great but not the only trading that's good!

Thank you for this video. My wife and I just got back from the range and I couldn’t figure out why she keeps shooting left and low no matter where she aims. This will be a great place to start. Thank you again.

I was buying ammo and standing at the counter when a guy walks in with his brand new Glock. He is telling the guy behind the counter the gun is defective. The employee ask what is it doing? No shit I heard it with my own ears, he said that the barrel is not in line with the gun, it shoots low and left when the sights are pointed straight. The whole place, customers and employees laughed at the same time. He then took the guy back to the range and went through two full mags with perfect accuracy. I grabbed a pair of ear muffs and went back with them. He then walks the guy through his grip and stance and pointed out like ten things he was doing wrong. There were things I noticed that I still do occasionally. He also flinches when he is anticipating the trigger break. All bad things.

It's funny how that happens with NEW Glock shooters that just bought thier first gun. They were told it would be absolutely perfect and practically run itself. Then reality strikes.

This is the sort of thing that happens to a lot of people with their first gun, whether or not it's a Glock. But a little training goes a long ways.

I've been enjoying handguns for a LOT of years. Still do. Watched many instructors, tried a lot of techniques. Never have I seen it explained so simply, so precisely. So understandably. Well Done!!! KnifeMaker

So the right hand is used as an operational hand. And the left arm is used as a control hand. Am I right.

Correct

The reason a right hander shoots lower left is because the shooter anticipates the shot/recoil and pushes low left a SPLIT second before the pistol goes bang.

@@fredtippett670 I watched 6+ minutes and saw more than a dozen draws of the gun, and by the way, there is no such thing as joo-joo beans. I believe you were trying to refer to Jujubes...the gummy candy drop. Fail on your part, but I won't hold it against you.

Thank you both for the excellent lesson. This was, by far, the best explanation on proper grip.

I'm a newbie when it comes to handguns. This is without question the best video I've seen about grip. Great instruction!!

Watch the video a few more times. Then practice, practice, practice. Following these instructions I am now shooting 1/4" at the same distance.

Yeah but can you ricochet off a rock a drive a nail shooting 1 handed at that distance like Jed Clampett at that distance. Granny wouldn't even give you the time of day. Ellie Mae could make that with her slingshot

New gun owner, right hander and was shooting low left. This video has the clearest explanation I've come across. Bravo Zulu!

Without any formal training I have practiced this when instructing for a couple of years now. It is fun to see exact things I point at in the grip taught here. Great video!
