Very informative video. My question now is if you ever done a Blouch Dominator 1.5xtr. Do you what rebuild kit that I need? I contacted them numerous times but they respond to every after week. And didn’t get an answer, instead they recommend me to send my turbo for them to fix it. It has a small amount of oil leakage and burning in my downpipe. No shaft play at all. I

I am not familiar with the Blouch turbo, I did a bit of research and it is advertised as a ball bearing unit, so it may be proprietary to their design unfortunately.

What about Gt55 large frame turbo? Is the ball bearing cartridge the same on those bigger ones?

Is ball bearing better or journal

Depends on the application, and a few other variables. The biggest "advantage" of a ball bearing unit is usually they will have the latest aerodynamic improvements from the manufacturer, because that platform is the current "state of the art". For example, look at Garrett, their whole catalog of "modern" turbochargers are all ball bearing. You cannot buy a new G series unit any other way. You have to back way up in the catalog to even find journal bearing options. Now, the other side...ball bearing units are more durable under high pressure ratio's. So if we have a customer that is going to run upwards of 25 psi on a regular basis, we will always suggest a ball bearing unit if it is available. They are more durable. The question everybody asks...Do they respond faster? Not always true. Most of the time we cannot compare exact turbochargers in both journal and ball bearing (reference my first paragraph). It is usually the rotor groups aero that has the most to do with response, not the bearing structure. Hydro-dynamic bearings are not as "draggy" as people think they are ;) Thank you for the question, I hope I offered up some good points to consider.-Reed
