is W I D E better than TALL??

Ойындар

Today, I am testing out if WIDE is better than TALL. We all know I love to play tall in CK3 on this channel, but I think I have found a way to make out vassal taxes which will lead us to a very W I D E game... Will wide actually be better than tall? You'll have to watch to find out 👀

    It is possible, aslong as you share a religion or have the tenents that allow it. You can get a LOT of alliances especially in the Fate of Iberia DLC.. Place dynasty members on the throne, or try and capture hostages like some of the non heir children of the ruler and recruit them, them culturally and religiously convert them and then marry them to your dynasty. And assassinate the rest of the children leaving your chosen one the heir of the lands.. While the guardian process might even turn them into a friend which increases the chance of them accepting alliances by a lot. That is how I managed to pretty much conquer the entirety of Europe as a Muslim ruler sultan in Iberia in barely a hundred years

    I don't think Crusader Kings 3 is overly tall/wide split. I find that even when you play wide you are micro managing your own demesne as well culture when you carve out your own. Playing with a Tall mindset is just part of a successful Wide playthrough. Trust me you can have a very stable empire when you have 6 Silver/gold mines in your personal holdings, and with disinherit it's pretty easy to manage partition.

    i dont feel like its fair calling a 50 county kingdom wide, thats usually the size of my tall ones after they get some buffer zones. Wide needs to be at 200+ counties at which point you will be getting over 100 in tax, it's fairly achievable once you're declaring holy kingdom wars, but its still way more effort than setting up a nice strong duchy. The upside of wide is forming your own big religion with communion and being the temporal head, tons of extra income and directed holy wars.

  • @Mobius1105
    @Mobius1105 Жыл бұрын

    Ah, for once I feel ahead of the curve here Zieley! I was inspired by your previous “tall” videos into doing some research trying to optimize tax income from vassals. In theory, it looks like theocracy vassals are the most profitable, as their tax obligation scales with their liege’s level of devotion. At max, they give an impressive 55% tax, which has a small number of extra buffs that can be applied to push it over 60%. Unfortunately that demands that you are a religious icon, which usually isn’t the case and so most of the time their tax output will be much lower. The real money is in mid-late game feudal vassals, which have a much lower base tax contribution, but way more buffs that apply to them. At extortionate taxes, with scutage, high crown authority, and most importantly, the ‘terrified’ status with the relevant dynasty legacies and lifestyle traits, they can push up to almost break even with theocracies. Over 50% tax obligation is very possible. The problem with that is that not all vassals can be terrified, and their opinion of you will likely be relatively low, especially on succession, due to stacking malices from absolute CA and Extortionate taxes. This can be offset, but it can be tricky. Also, not every character is able to take full advantage of the terror bonus if you really need to go down a different lifestyle. Martial and Stewardship do have similar if slightly less optimal paths though, so most of the time you should be near peak income. Touching briefly on republics, they’re ironically not very good at stacking income. They max out at just over 40% (you need the republican legacy tradition, and it only applies to Count+ vassals) but they are very stable, and only need a light dip into stewardship to reach their potential. Overall, maximizing income from vassals is WAY harder than optimizing your own demesne but it can be rewarding. Ideally I’d recommend doing this by playing a medium style with a large ish kingdom (not an empire) that’s only as large as you feel comfortable micromanaging your dukes. It’s frankly not a playstyle that’s a ton of fun, but I’d recommend a playthrough just because you can learn some things that can be useful in any other playthrough.

    @@brosef4154 true, so this isn’t ideal for a true wide style. I’d recommend using either a single already large kingdom like Germany, or my preference is to stay a duke for as long as possible and click the “form new kingdom” button only when you’re suffering severe overextension. In general though, yeah it does take serious succession management. Do not be afraid to click the disinherit button.

    Yeah thats the hardest Part of the Game in my opinien. First it's good If you Spend a bit Money in buildings and developement in your Capital after reaching Kingdom Level, before you have the Empire. If you have problems that they kill you, Go Intrige tree, IT helps to defend against IT and have a wife with good Intrige. And you should look, why they hatte you you shouldnt habe more than 2 douchys (-25 for every extra douchy) Sometimes IT helps to give vassals some other vassals.the one you give away can No longer bei in a factoon against you the other Likes you more after this. If you have enough gold u can give them gold, that they Like you(If it should Go fast). In Long Run start Personal schemes, so that they Like you. Your spymaster should Always Like at least +1 , it's better to have an Bad spymaster that Likes you, than a good one that hates you, Same for Dok and the foodtest guy. You can merry Family members with Dangerous vassals(Fraktion Leader) or befreiend with them. If they your alles, or friend they cant Go in Fraktion against you and If they Like you it's unlikely. Get a Stong allies Out of your Empire that can Help you in a civil fight. Also good ist a String dynasty member outside from your Empire that u can call to war in a civil war. If you are Desperate give a dynasty member a Kingdom and let IT become Independent, than you can call it in civil wars, you will lose that land but it can Help to Service the First years and If the civil war comes and you win you can Take their titles and Bann/kill them, If it's necessary. But be careful, If ist a String Family in your Empire (your Dynastie) this will make them hatte you. To win this civil wars you have to look who ist the Leader of this Fraktion, If you can Cat h this Leader you win. For siege all of His land you will get +100% warscore(this doesnt mean you win the war for sure, you Just get These points, but in this civil wars, White Peace ist a via le Option Overall +30% are enough in Most cases for this. And don't let them Catch your ruler! If they make a siege at your Capital, gives your emperor the least of an Army so they cant get him If they won the siege AMD If He leads an Army, don't lose a Fight with this army, If you unlicky they Catch him and you loose. I feel like you’re playing wrong if you think wide isn’t as good as tall. You reach a limit in tall, where you cannot expand past your domain limit and all your buildings are maxed out. Whereas playing wide you can just conquer more and more, granting stuff to vassals and reaping a percentage of everything, gradually increasing that percentage over time, and developing your vassals. It can be extremely lucrative overtime.

  • @mattgopack7395

    Yeah, it's a bit strange - because playing wide lets you snowball a lot faster/harder than playing tall does. In terms of power, it's always been (and still is) the strongest way to play. That said, playing tall can have some advantages - while it's a little harder to get started, playing tall is a lot more stable, especially if you can guarantee succession of your tall areas. Since most of the income/troops come from your personal demesne and men at arms, there's much fewer ways for factions to threaten you. I do prefer the gameplay as well, since you never spiral out of control like when playing wide (so it's still challenging).

    @@jackochainsaw Weight of numbers isn't everything - with MAA being so strong for their numbers, with buffs stacking up you can crush much larger armies with ease. But that takes a while to achieve (that or the knight effectiveness stacking), whereas blobbing out to get maximum land ends up providing a much faster boost that you can then shovel into making your personal holdings better. Though bigger empires do require you to be a bit more skilled at the game/play a particular way to keep together optimally, otherwise they end up fairly likely to have a few civil wars on succession.

    Tall all the way for me, sure it's a hassle to deal with the extra heirs but much less than dealing with vassals. Not only is it a lot of work to prevent them from rebelling against you on successions but also a lot of work to make them like you, you have to do it all over again every time succession changes for them and you. Taxes and levies bonuses might seem great but it only applies for a short time before you have to do it all over again.

I was some how able to marry into inheriting France after a few generations, And I could not tell you how I did it. Just one Day I inherited the french empire title. Then went on a crusade to take back the Santiago de Compostela from the muslims in Spain. My beneficiary took it over and then died without heirs leaving it to me. Then after about another lifetime of wars, I controlled all of British Isles, all of modern day France, and all of modern day Spain. Haven’t had a play through that was that fun sense.

    Yeah bro, thats not wide at all. Best wide combo is vikings (for the making a killing perk), constant raids with a small men at arms unit (I go 3 Varangian 1 Light horse early game) to tempt the enemy into fighting back so you can farm prestige and piety, allowing you to reform your faith and culture, or even go for isle of man, within the first characters life. The more you fight once you get the making a killing perk, the more gold you earn. Also by never using up your special troops from the isle of man decision nobody will declare war on you and you will be too powerful for most vassals to even think about rebelling, so you can focus on going wider and wider.

    math proves that wide is better than tall no matter what, sure, even if a vassal only gives 10%, that just means that if your wide empire is 110% bigger than your tall empire, you have broke even, any extra land is pure profit, and its EASY to get that much bigger than a tall empire cuz you have limits to how much land you can personally own, say you can only own 6 counties, that just means any other empire needs 13 to make more than you, and this ALSO ignores that wide empires can still have a tall central duchy for the crown as well.... theres literally no benefit from ignoring mass expansion
