Is THIS What They Think of Black People??

Take the Unapologetic Survey! www.surveymonkey.com/r/KWS5YQ...
A dating app came out with a music video that tries to encourage black people to vote by depriving one another of sex unless they’ve voted: “No Voting, No Vucking.” This takes “soft bigotry of low expectations” to a whole new level-let’s get into it.

The problem with stereotypes is, there is a rather significant element to truth to them. Not saying everyone is a stereotype - but you come across stereotypical people all the damn time, of all races and creeds. In advertising, this has been used forever - and you've seen this all your life. It's easier and more effective to talk to a large cohesive group than it is it to communicate to the fringes. Add to that the catchy phrase to entice the dumb-arsed masses... There is a fair chance that this *actually* appeals to the target audience.

I hate when any group is referred to as a community. The black community, the trans community, the LGBT community, the whatever community. It's ridiculous. It boils anyone down to one simple facet of them. It makes it sound like everyone that is black/gay/trans/Asian or whatever has the same beliefs, values, and political ideals or goals. I'm bi, and I do _not_ associate with the LGBT community or pride culture. I actively avoid it. To me, the only community I have is the community I live in, my town with my friends and family and people with whom I have a shared interest in making our town and our state a better place to live. Everything else is just a small part of who I am, not what I am.

That's what a community is supposed to be, a group of people that live near each other, watch out for each other, keep each other safe, build each other up. Not a bunch of cackling hens on the internet screaming over each other about who has it worse. There's quite a number of us black people who hate that term "black community" as well, and find it almost oxymoronic, because the way a lot of black people treat each other especially in the hood areas isn't exactly community-like. In fact we sometimes call it Blackistan, because it's basically a war zone in some parts both in a literal sense and an anti-social media sense.

This is why I'm glad I grew up in the 80s where " don't be swayed by peer pressure" was the theme of every commercial and after school special aimed at kids. This is is a clear example of peer pressure. But kids stopped being taught to resist peer pressure as our educational system began using it to manipulate them. And the government caught on. You don't hear Just Say No anymore. You hear All The Cool Kids Vote For Us.
