It's amazing that a year or two ago I would have struggled to understand any of this, but now I'm listening in real time and only searching maybe one word every few sentences

@@Y-two-K No particular method, really. I try to read and watch native content like manga and TV and look up stuff I don't know, and I study vocab with Anki. On KZread I watch Miku, Japanese Ammo with Misa, Sambonjuku, and @JapanesewithMomandDaughter, and others as I run across them, mostly to study grammar points. The reading native content has been by far the most important part, though. There's nowhere to jump in except at the deep end.

I have to say, the double subtitles are so useful for me! I am at a level in my listening ability where I am trying to listen to Japanese audio with just Japanese subtitles (and no English) as much as possible. I found that my ability to pick out words has grown much more meaningfully when I stopped relying on English subtitles to “confirm” the meaning of what I was hearing. However, my known vocabulary is still somewhat elementary, so the biggest obstacle comes when I just don’t know a word or a grammar structure! So having the top subtitles with these things color coded and highlighted helps me when there’s a gap in my knowledge and what I am hearing. I can then quickly look away and get back to challenging myself to rely just on Japanese only.

The way you put both subtitles, translated an not translated, in two separate parts of the screen is perfect! This way we have both and can just choose the one we want to follow. Thank you so much Miku sensei for your efforts and amazing videos! And please keep on with this type of subtitles! ありがとうございます!

There might be less noise in Kanto in the future. I was reading Gion is banning tourists to protect the geisha after a few recent incidents.
