    Yes, this is very accurate debiction of the army training. The only thing missing from the tent task was some one complaining it was either too hot or cold. This would result into moving the tent about 10 meters or so to either south or north to fix the problem. North for cooler climate, south for warmer.

    This is really accurate how it was when I served last year. Feel like I met all the characters in real life. Also great attention to detail with the funny stutters and pronunciations with the lieutenant. Setting up tents was pretty much same except it was -25C° winter with barely any light as artificial light and fire was forbidden. Just missing the part where Nallukka bangs the wood stove with a piece of firewood in the middle of the fucking night and killing the flame freezing us.

    Reminds me about my times in the glorious service of the Finnish defence forces. We were marching towards the shooting range, and suddenly the guy in front of me who was a bit of a point-dexter shouted for the corporal. The sub-officer came running to our side and asked the guy: "Jokiaho, what is the problem?" "Sir corporal, I womited on myself" "Well how did that happen?" "It came from the mouth" -he replied with no further explanation. And we just carried on. I will never forget.

    Aww, there was a Nallukka in our company. He was like physically super weak, he didn't have the strength to even keep the barrel of the rifle up, so all his shots hit the ground between the shooting position and the target. Felt bad for the guy. He didn't give up though, big respect, and he eventually got assigned to office duty, so he got a job where he could be useful, happy ending.

    Private Nönnönnöö is a common example name used by the corporals when you first practise greetings and talking to higher-ups, dunno where that got it's origins from. Jumalan selän takana means "in the middle of nowhere", aka a place that god has abandoned.

  • @Top_One

    @Top_One

    The origins of it is that in the example texts of how to address higher ups etc, the surname is/was replaced with "NNN", like "Captain, private NNN, may I address you?" So, when they were reading examples out loud, they read the NNN part as "Nönnönnöö."

    This is 100% accurate. All the personalities, the way they talk, the tasks, the waiting around, the huge hurry and rush. Mostly just huge rush so you can get to wait. And for another task, you have to wait so you can be in a rush. Also your character's name "Nönnönnöö" is a Finnish army inside joke. He is like "private examplovich". When officers or NCOs are trying to teach something to the recruits, they often refer to the example recruit as "recruit Nönnönnöö". Mostly this is, because nobody's actual last name is "Nönnönnöö", so there is no confusion that this is just an example.

    Maybe you should sometime ask for army stories from your subs and react to the or something similiar or along those lines. I guarantee you it would be a hit. It's a generational experience for Finns, you literally run into all kinds of persons in there, and quite literally some people have absolutely no clue about what they are doing. Since most Finnish males go through this, most of them can relate and will find it funny. I'd wager it might be quite a popular video.

    The cleaning part is definitely overblown. A corporal or a sergeant ordering a single recruit to clean on all fours would be "simputus"; an abuse of the powers of command. The actual career officers come down like a ton of bricks on that kind of behavior. There are also clear channels for complaints, nobody needs to take that shit. Nallukka is not alone, for many recruits the Kalashnikov variant we hand them is the first weapon they fire in their lives. It doesn't just make a loud bang, it kicks hard enough to leave a bruise if you're not holding it against your shoulder properly, it can be a legitimately scary thing. I personally had an issue at the army range, where the soldiers next to me firing would startle me, and cause me to lose my aim. That sort of thing dissipates with time and training.

    The inside of barracks is pretty accurate. I particularly appreciate the realism on the floor, the windows and the beds (although they are bunk beds usually). But of course in real army there is more cleaning and maintenance service. It's like 30% cleaning, 30% sleeping, 20% standing on formation, 15% loitering, 5% something to do with country defense. So in that sense this game is pretty unrealistic, but I guess they wanted to make this fun and exiting!

    In the first years of 90's in coastal jaeger brigades first coastal jaeger company it was pretty much like that but we woke up a half an our earlier than real wake up time (real time was 6.00) because there was allways so much "cleaning". And after service (18.00) we cleaned everything again and again until 19.50. Then after about 1,5 months service one day cleaning suddenly stopped at 18.30 and we were allowed to go in canteen. Well I didn't go because I pretty much knew what would happen. We had to register us back in before 20.00. Surprise, surprise those who went suddenly did something "wrong" with their every registering and were send back to the line. Show continued more than half an hour and then it was 20.00 o'clock pm. So everybody who went were "late". So there were hazing called "rättisulkeinen". Well after about two months basic training we were about 60 left from 114 which was in the beginning. Most of those who left to other companies were a-class soldiers but the spirit of whole company was ruined because of a bunch of a-holes propably with very small personal equipment. You should never give stripes to such disturbed persons. Of course there were also some good instructors, hard but correct but about half of them were clearly sissies in their previous life and now they got the power over others first time in their pitiful life. Luckily we got a new brigade commander and for example two sergeant majors from our company were kicked out after some "incidents". I have also heard that some others have met some nasty knocks after service. I would never fight beside such piles of shit. Such types are cowards compensating their weakness and those few who are not are just little sadists which have no loyalty. What is the use of them? Hope they have better psychological tests nowadays.

    I served 1 year in 2003-2004 and this depiction is extremely accurate, both practically, culturally, and also the difficulty of shooting at a target seems very well realized and your shooting results are realistic for a first timer.

    Seems quite accurate to me tbh. We got some blank training before going to the range, but some people were both your neighbor and Nallukka. When it came to setting up the tent we had to move it one meter to a given direction because so far up north it would be too cold or some similar bulllshit. Also one of the over lieutenants was a comedy character with his running pants and manners. So from my experience it's about 96/100 accurate.

    This was hilarious. And not that far from the real service. I remember that if the "kipinämikko" (a "spark Mikko"; the person responsible for keeping the tent warm) fell a sleep or forgot to add wood to the stove, we were ordered to move the tent one meter towards south where its warmer.

  • @sampohonkala4195

    Way less cursing during my time but pretty accurate. If Nallukka could not hit even once, the officer would have made a hole with a pencil when checking. Really bad results were not allowed so they did not happen. And this is a true story. A lot of crazy stuff happened - a corporal was known to sleep really tight, so while he was sleeping, the bed was carried to the corridor where he woke up in the morning, a bit confused. "Komppaniassa herätys!!!!" RAUK was the worst, as your buddies would be your commanders. The amount of revenge...Damn good times, actually.

    Voice acting is terrible but I like how they use finnish army slang that does not appear in the subtitles. "got bored of being in the army" = "gonahtanut" I do not know about throwing paper balls but using yourself as a mop is common. At the shooting range if someone stops pointing the gun at the target area, he will be shot. We can't stop pointing until we have proved that there is no ammunition in the gun. That guy next to you is a dead man. "Nönnönnöö" = "what-ever-is-your-surname-don't-care". It's common too if nametags are not visible. And you have to fix this video's thumbnail. Tip of your fingers must be two fingers' thickness from the corner of your eye (in Finland).
