Is This the PERFECT BLUEWATER Cruising Catamaran? [Full Tour] Learning the Lines

We've been wanting to get aboard a St. Francis catamaran for a while now. They're a lesser known catamaran brand, but they build serious bluewater cruisers meant to sail the world in luxury. It seems that most of the catamarans we really like are built in South Africa, and this is no exception.
There's too much good to be said about this particular boat in a video description, so you'll just have to watch the video!

Learning the Lines is a channel about us, an average couple in our 20's, with big dreams to be sailing the world by the time we're in our 30's. We're not afraid to jump into anything, put in the work, and learn as we go. For this reason our channel is very DIY focused, with the goal to show anyone watching that a lot is possible if you're not afraid to make some mistakes along the way.

I owned a SF44 & loved it, this is a 50. It is amazing how much more boat those 6 feet add. I would love to own a 50 myself. They are true world cruisers, but can be easily single handed. There are two main issues with this boat to think about. Beam is an issue! You cannot be hauled just anywhere for bottom paint, and slip width can be a problem. Eluthera marine railway can haul this, but I know of no place in FL. Mast height can be an issue too. My 44 was 62', compatible with the ICW bridges, except the one just north of Miami. This one may not clear bridges. Draft is four feet, perfect for the Bahamas. Remember, this much boat has every system your house has, as well as your car, and then a few more. Owning this boat is a responsibility not to be taken lightly. On the other hand, you can easily live on this one, move where you wish when you wish. The perfect escape pod I think. It was circa $1M new.

I started watching this skeptical about the bland space organization of the cats I had looked at. But as they showed one great feature after another I was astounded that the boat had so much space, all used wisely. I'm sure the new owner is thanking his lucky stars for getting such a fine live-aboard, world-cruiser boat, especially at such a good price. If I were in the market I would have snapped this up without hesitation.

I like you guys, I have seen many of your videos. Great to see boats I have not been on, but you missed a bit on this one, I am still learning this one helping the new owner. You saw the tub, it also has a dishwasher and dive compressor. Electric furling sails. The big thing you missed was the battery bank and solar panels and the engine set up. It can run 2x15K BTU AC units off the engines as you motor sail and of the batteries for a bit! What did I miss? Bow thruster, all the inside lockers have a drying system, forward and aft gangplank system, full B&G electronics. I prefer a simpler boat. Bilders really need to go sailing more. I need to go sailing more.

Top quality catamaran Designed by Angelo Lavaranos . This should also have the sail-drive leg coming out at an angle towards the middle that allows the boat to dry out with out damaging the drive and it reportedly catches less crab pot bouys. It's a huge boat that really utilizes the size without resorting to pencil thin hull to make it 50' long! Both hulls and bridge deck are I believe molded as one piece unlike some other cats that are made from 3 piece. Boat was very nicely presented without clutter everywhere. Cheers Warren

The owner, Paul, states that if all his well thought out upgrades were incorporated on a new boat, the price would be $1.6mUSD. This machine at half the price seems like an outstanding value. Best money spent was the helm seat. Compare the new model factory helm seat with Paul's upgrade.

Money not being a consideration, this is the first cat I've seen that I like as well as the Exquisite X5. It's so well thought out and love all the storage. But in my mind, there is no way to beat the owner follow-up offered by Exquisite. I'd have to win a huge lottery to buy ANY sailing vessel, but that doesn't mean I don't love following several youtube channels for various reasons. It's fun to window shop! LOL My current favorite is Sailing Uma, and I even find myself mesmerized when they are doing the remodeling and rebuilding updates that usually make my brain check out. Pure genius and thinking out of the box from those two. They started with a "ready for the scrapyard" monohull for $2500 and have turned it into something incredible by doing almost everything themselves.

When my son bought a 35 footer I started watching a bunch of sailing channels. Many have disappeared for various reasons. The saddest was the couple that sank everything they owned into a yacht and hired a Captain to teach them and to sail it South along the Florida coast. He sailed into a drawbridge and they lost everything. But I quit watching LaVaga when the baby arrived and most videos ended up being baby pics, and the charm of sailing was lost. So the other day I decided to count up the number of baby channels. So far I have reached NINE: LaVaga, Delos, Jesse&Ryan, Learn the Lines, Nahoa, Ran, Bora Bora (my fav), Inspire and Daley Adventure. I suspect there may be more buns in the oven once this Covid lock down is over :-)

I don't agree that it's too big because when I first bought my 40Ft FP Lavezzi it was huge but after a while I was confidently manouvering in tight births. Now I want to buy a bigger cat. I find that the extra space for entertaining and guest rooms make a huge difference. You get use to any sized boat after a short time and you gain a sixth sense about its dimensions just as you do when driving a car. The only downside would be the extra cost in upkeep. BTW I love the cat and would buy it in a heartbeat if I had the money. André

Nice tour guys. Beautiful boat. Is it sitting low in the water?...if not, once all water and fuel tanks are topped up, boat fully provisioned and loaded with 6 - 8 people will it be overloaded? Perhaps a tad bit big for single handing. It seems like a better than new boat due to all the upgrades and the fact they have been tested and tweaked. When all that upgraded equipment and electronics wear out and need replacing be ready to take out a second mortgage if you can't do all the work yourself. This boat is a pipe dream for me but I'm still interested in seeing the owner produced 45 minute video. Thanks again for the infotainment!! It would be nice to get an update on your give away boat with each video even if there is no change...a quick summary of where that process is at is of interest to many of us.

At 50 by 26 it is no surprise that it has everything. The real surprise is that much stuff and no screw-ups! The closest I come to a complaint is that the kitchen counters are low. I suspect the primary cook is short and the step up to the kitchen is a customization for her.

I know this boat I followed it being built on a different channel, and followed it's owner onto a multi-hull forum. It's a great boat. Wish I had the money. The step up in the galley is because the original owning couple the wife is a shorter lady.

This is a beautiful boat, and most cats sail nice, I had one. The problem is that most people can't afford them. I would like to see more affordable boats. Around 40ft (give or take) monohull. My preference would be a cutter rigged ketch, but that's just me.

A pretty awesome 50' blue water boat that sells new for around $1 million. Tough to compare this to many capable 40' Cats that sell for 1/3 the price.

I'm going to atart saving now. I have a request.... sorry if you already do this and I keep missing it. You are usually pretty consistent mentioning vessel lengths.....Could you also tell the beam width and depth of draft......daggerboard or keels. Thanks. Congrats on the mini sailor in the oven

I think that the asking price is just about what I have earned over my whole life (so far)! Yikes! Now, if you earn $1 million a year - for 20 years - then this boat might just be for you! Besides all that, this is a very fine cat. Since I sail solo this boat is also too big for me. But if I was free and someone asked me to go sailing on this boat I would quickly say YES! : - ) Still, I tend to like monohulls. I enjoyed this tour. Scott W

Wouldn't flush mounted deck hatches be better? Also, Can you see the sails from the cockpit?
