Totally in agreement with your thoughts here. I’ve seen several video reports on the show and so have a pretty good overall view of the bikes. Mostly rubbish with a number of okay and then a few really good. I was a bike photographer for magazines but got sick and tired of crap customs. What also bugs me is the gushing comments by a number of KZread channels, so many playing the bullshit game. I appreciate your honesty.

Never been big on either car or bike shows...If you've been to one, you've been to all of them for the next 5-10yrs. Personally I keep it very basic when it comes to mods: bar end mirrors, tail tidy, slip on, upgraded brake system and proper tyres(im a metzeler guy). All my bikes have been black and I go to extra lengths to get rid of decals and black out all the other parts. I like the look, it flys under the radar and only people who know what's up approach you.

Went to show on the Saturday brilliant and great food!! Totally agree with you on unridable bikes WHY ! Oh and I wouldn't want to ride that Duke with those wheels 😂

Completely agree with you. Form should not exist at the expense of function. Not to put the show down, attended on Saturday and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Function over form all day long. I am a hipster with a top knot, look at me on my custom bike that rides sheet and handles sheet and cost me 30000 quid. I'll have a oatmilk latte with smashed avocado

I agree and it's one of the things I went off on the Cafe Racer scene. They were originally made like they are 100% for function, but they're often now all form - and that's a shame. The reason maybe you like race bikes is they often look like hammered shit, but are made as a testing platform, not for a beauty pageant. However, I am amazed at the incredible craftsmanship and some builders make proper art pieces that need to be enjoyed solely for their work.

Totally agree. So many ‘custom’ bikes (who is the ‘customer’?) look rubbish and are rubbish. Some of those Beemers looked nice though. The Ducati? There must be a reason why Webb forks are no longer manufactured for new machines! Thanks for your good sense. Les

Didn’t you say you are tired of all Old Boxer BMW mods… The real modders aren’t afraid of some minor guy with a camera who’s copying Casey Neistat vlog video style. They go off the beaten track and trying something new that might inspire and create a new trend

Hey, I wish you depicted unrideable bikes in more depth and explained why, I feel like you show me 1 that could potentially be dangerous but not less rideable because of its style. form over function has always been either you go radical or not why use ribbed tyre, drum brake or no front brake, smaller seat, lower bars, or bigger in that matter or pushing power just and risk reliability I mean the list goes on and on...true some can customise or modify to make things better in some ways be it aesthetics, ergonomics or efficency what don't suit you might suit someone else. I ride a custom bike everyday, its not an extreme build for sure....it is slammed with stiffer suspension....over 2 to 3h ride it becomes hateful but i love it and ride everyday, I think custom its how the bike makes you feel its like having a tattoo you do it for yourself 1st and in some way share a vision if we were all doing the same conservative things there wouldn't be exchange of idea and innovations and not everyone could be fulfilled in their creativity and passion and income let not forget lot of people live on this and for this. I have been to bike shed and in my opinion it was balanced regarding bike selection and i didn't see many bikes I wouldn't ride....even the green scooter i would!!! 😂 but I saw plenty who haven't been riden at all that is also true because builder usually just finish their project on tight deadlines. All in all I get your point but don't particularly agree with it as we have different vision seems you are on the practical side of the fence where I love visually striking bikes even if practically is a bit sacrified along the way.but it is nice to have both for sure all the best just my 2 cents

Because they can. It’s theirs. You have no right to judge that. Build your own custom bike and show what you’re made of. Do I like most of the bikes? Who cares! And it doesn’t matter. Just like your opinion does not, even on video.

If you put your ‘creation’ (or monstrosity) into the public domain it is put there for others to assess (and criticise). A “bike show” invites such. This man KNOWS what he’s talking about. I’m grateful for his comments, knowledge and assessments. Yours? No.
