Guys, before you go you must visit Te Papa, so interesting. Lots about NZ wildlife, history,Maori culture etc, and FREE to enter ! And Zealandia, a wonderful place of trees and bush in the middle of Wellington, you will see Kaka, a native parrot and so much more. Not free, but worth it.
You totally have to go to Te Papa museum before you leave you can see the building by the waterfront, hope you get to visit
For me the first time I have ever seen Petone featured so thanks so much guys. We locals all love Petone for the ethnic diversity variety and history. Your enthusiasm is infectious and the beach and sky really sparkled as you walked back to your car. I hope you will find an opportunity to visit Zealandia during your stay in Wellington. Zealandia is a world-renowned eco-sanctuary right in the heart of the city.
Petone was the first European settlement in Wellington with settlers arriving on the Aurora on 22 January 1840. Look for Aurora Street named after the ship. Most moved to what became Wellington city within a few months as the land was swampy and prone to floods. Māori probably knew this as their pā were at the beach ends. Pito-one pā at the western end. Hikoikoi pā near the mouth of the Hutt River.
Thank you for another great video. Petone has certainly developed and improved since I lived in Wellington. All the best from Sydney Australia 🇦🇺
It's still spring here actually, just wait until the summer season actually starts!!! Gon be cooking in our New Zealand heat 😂😂
Enjoying your take on my homeland I've been living in Perth, Western Australia for 25yrs now, I grew up in Petone and around Lower Hutt. Petone when I grew up there it was a pretty bad area definitely changed a bit over the years. Alot different now to when I was last home in 2020
If you guys have time, you should go into town and jump on one of the electric trains up to Paraparaumu. Its quite scenic and has a couple of long tunnels.

Went to Wellington on holiday late last year and preferted Petone to the main City.
A small tip for your Te Reo Maori pronunciation. If there is a vowel its usually the end of a syllable. so Pe-to-ne. Same goes for double vowels like Tau-ra-nga or Wai-ka-to. Not to overwhelm you, but the 'ng' sound sounds like the end of the word 'going' Good luck in the South Island guys, great channel. Been bingeing your Kiwi stuff and looking forward to watching your other country travels.
Thanks for exploring our unique town! Hutt Valley on the map!❤
Petone is really cool, with lots of restaurants and bars and boutique shops. There's a lot more cool shops and restaurants that you haven't seen in Petone. A lot of Wellingtonians shop and dine here. By the way, Petone (Peh-Tow-nee) is not a town, but a suburb of Lower Hutt. We live here and it's our favorite place to shop, dine and walk (beach). One of the best places in Wellington to live.

Petone was it's own town under a Borough Council for 100 years until it was forced to amalgamate with Lower Hutt in 1989. To those of us born and bred before amalgamation, Petone was known as the village and we are the Villagers.

Not so much a town as a suburb of Lower Hutt, NZ's 6th biggest city by population. Glad you had a good time and found it friendly though :) Jackson St is a great spot.
Yep lived there's for 15 years, admittedly it is a cool place...

It's Petone Said like peh toh nee , thats a long o sound in the middle and strongish E sound at the end
I love your videos, but many have a strong strobing effect with indoor lighting, like the start of this one. Mains power in NZ is 50 Hz, so there is a 50 Hz flicker to lighting. At least one of your cameras is probably running on 60 frames /sec, and hence there is a 10 hz beat or flashing. One option is to see if your camera can be set to 50 frames, and try some vids to see if it helps. Not that the issue will stop me wathcing your content, so thanks for the cool stories as your travel around.

Not actually a city (laffs), even a town...Petone is a suburb of Lower Hutt, which is really a suburb of Wellington City (five separate council areas in Greater Wellington, talk about duplication!). This was the original settlement area for British immigrants in the 1840s and 1850s due to the nice shelving beach from the harbour.
Its Petoneeeeeee :-)

Agreed, I was taught almost 40 years ago in primary school that Maori vowels are ah, eh, ee, oh, uu, but like most European NZers of my vintage we bastardised the language, but now I understand the disrespect it shows to our fellow NZs and undermines our nations mission to raise them up to being truly equal in a land they had more entitlement to than we did@@holicman
