Is this the BEST van for Vanlife ?

VANLIFE
Today's UK van life travel adventure is all about the Volkswagen Transporter T4 and why I think it's the best van for #vanlife
This is my little 1998 VW T4 800 Special which has a 1.9 turbo diesel engine. It's not fast but then I didn't buy a van for speed.
I wanted reliability and mileage. This van has been very reliable over the years and will do 700 miles to a tank of fuel.
That means that I could pretty much drive from the south coast of England to the north coast of Scotland on ONE tank of fuel.
I think that's amazing.
I love the fact that the van is neither too big or too small. It manages to fit down the smallest of roads, under car park height restriction barriers and into a regular parking space.
I have parked this in central London and slept in it. Nobody thought that anyone would be sleeping in it so nobody gave it a second glance.
The van was cheap to buy and has so far done 306,000 miles !!
I think that if you are looking to get into van life then this is a great way to start. Personally I can't see any other vans coming close to this.
Let me know what you think.
Thank you so much for hitting that subscribe button.
My goal was for 50 subscribers and I have passed that already. I am so grateful and genuinely humbled that people watch and like my videos.
The aim is to cover EVERYTHING van life.
I've been doing this for a few years now and absolutely love it.
I am going to post more travel videos, more van videos and also some Volkswagen videos, hopefully hitting some of the shows this year.
I've done most of them in the past. You will see more of my T4's and also my Early Bay window camper van called Frank.
Thanks for watching, liking, subscribing and commenting !
Much love

As a Vauxhall Vivaro owner I would like to let you know that I do wave at other Vivaro drivers and generally get a two finger wave back 😂😂

Nice to see a down to earth person that's not full of himself getting to the point. Recently bought a t5.1 panel van and had it converted still learning.

Love the t4, the styling is just right. I just couldn't find one in reasonable condition in my budget of £5k, they were all crusty.

Good tour of your van. We have a Berlingo micro camper and we just about manage. Maybe in a few years time , we might have to upgrade to something like what you have got as we aren’t getting any younger.

Had a 1997 T4 LWB, bought it for camping. A real slug being normally aspirated. Heaps of room inside. Would have loved to continue with it but the water pump gave out in 2010 and did the head gasket. Not uncommon issue and not a single replacement motor to be found economically in my part of the world (north-east Australia). Refurbed motor would have cost more than I paid for it. Had to write it off as a complete loss. But I still have fond memories of the road trips my wife and I took in it!

Sorry to hear it had to be written off - lots of them still over here and in Europe so parts aren't really a problem. Hope you got yourself another camper.

I agree for all the reasons you mention. We've the Ducato and sometimes that is a pain to park. On the plus side the shower, loo etc still make it a winner for us. Since we got the van we noticed that we don't do big towns/cities that much (taking the van in that is). We did do London last weekend but we parked at CAMC Abbey Wood and trained into central London in just 20mins. We were starting to find when we were doing more towns/cities apart from the historic bits and bobs etc the high streets just looked the same so don't miss it at all so we don't mind that go-anywhere limitation. Subbed!

Thank you and glad you are enjoying your van. I think a toilet and shower in the T4 would be a tight squeeze.

My little Talbot Express campervan has a toilet and shower, can basically park anywhere except low height barrier carparks and multi-storey car parks, this has never been an issue for me in general. I usually park out in the country, seaside locations and or the odd festival field when wanting to sleep but have also parked/slept in town car parks. I know many with larger vans do the same but 15' or shorter is a breeze, mine's around that. I wouldn't mind a low top with a bench seat bed though, sink and cooker and excessing cupboards from a sitting position would actually be fine for me, I'd still like a toilet and sit down shower though if possible. I couldn't live with a standard rock'n roll bed layout, everything about it doesn't work for me. I've friends with them and 'I' simply just don't get it. I like the Vivaro and wouldn't mind getting one, boxy little vans, just not a great gearbox unfortunately, the bearings don't last, fine new (for a while) or if the bearings have recently been replaced, but they can have a short bearing life of 60,000 miles.

Agreed. Got a t4 auto caravelle after years of looking - they're rare and difficult to find at a good price. 280k so far! Size wise the vito is close but build quality isn't like VW. Reflective tints are super stealthy!

Lucky you with the 700m range. I get around 500 on a full tank in my T6.1 Kombi. I do love the way these vans look with those nice clean lines. Nice van, thank you for sharing.
