Nothing beats value and versatility of the modern kit lens. And size of that Sony kit lens is just sick. I honestly love lenses (and own more then i probably would ever need) and that Sigma lens is also just sick how good it is, but still i was recently on trip that i filmed ton on and that little 16-50 was used most of the time. Sony really need to update their apsc lineup.

100! agree. I love the sigma most, when my camera is mounted to my desk lol..,. out and about= the kit lens is killer! I was really considering the new sony zv-e10... but not with the same old sensor in it.

This should have way more views, both the production quality and content is just great! You said you would not recommend getting the a5100 in 2021 (I can get it for around 250€ with its kit lens), any alternatives you can propose? I'm already convinced about the Sigma 16mm f/1.4, the Bokeh and FoV is just too good. Thanks in advance!

250€ with the kit lens is a a super good deal… I would pick that up.. the only downside I have found to the a5100 is having to record all audio with an external device.. but it’s not a deal breaker! I use a Zoom h1n to record, those are about a hundred bucks a good deal.. the a6300 would be a good alternative, but at 3 times the price you can snag that 5100 for… I’d pick up that 5100 if I were you.

While it would be great to have a mic input, the main purpose of my camera will be purely streaming. Already got dedicated audio (NTG3 into MOTU M2). Will take a look at the a6300 for sure, maybe I can get a deal, you never know. Does it do 4K60 or caps at 30? It's really odd that a 7 years old camera is still such a good option in my specific scenario (a5100).

The 6300 does 4K 30.. if it’s just( or even mostly) for streaming.. go with the 5100 all day. The 6300 would be good for 4k30 for stand alone KZread videos.. but also you can upscale in rendering.. that’s why this video shows 4K, even though I filmed it with my a5100 at 1080P.

Right, you have the best looking a5100 video I've seen around YT (even with kit lens). vp09 codec (which this video has) does a great job compression wise and you always get it if the video is 1440p or higher! Thanks again for your point of view on the matter. Will most likely end up with the a5100 + Sigma 16mm F1.4!

I’m debating on the Sigma but man the stock lens is pretty solid as is.

Lighting does a LOT of work. The sigma is just much easier to get a good shot out of . The amount of time and tweaking I had to do to get a good looking shot on the kit lens was a to. Compared to the sigma. Sigma was just , click the lens on, turn the camera on, drop the ISO lol.

On the Sigma, yes, on the kit, no. There isn’t a real difference on the sigma in my set up with everything being so controlled.

Nope. Sigma makes it in an e mount variant so it fits perfectly.
