    Joe I use to do the same thing when I need a generator because we lost power. Then I got smart and bougbt a Generac generator. It is a 23 kw and runs the whole house. Don't have to pull any cord . When we lose power which is often the Generac starts up 20 seconds later.

    Harbor Freight is currently selling the Honda EU2200i for $999, so the difference is only 200 dollars. That makes this an easy decision, to me...go with the one you've had for 10 years and it's still working perfectly.

    That is a great price for the Honda; and no complaints other than they are a pain to start sometimes. BUT, compare the Coleman to the same wattage Honda 3200 and that generator is $2,600. The Honda is definitely more refined; but far more expensive.

    I'm a big fan of the Honda generators, but I'd be willing to give Coleman a look. I'd be curious where it is made, who makes the engine, if it is just a rebrand/rebadge of an already existing generator line. Also, I've never had issues starting my Honda generator. Even if I drain all of the fuel out at the end of season, I've never had the trouble you had starting it. I'm betting that you need some fuel system maintenance and probably a good scrub of the carb. Honda are pretty bulletproof, hopefully the Colemans are also.

    I don't have a backup power source but if I were to get one it would be the Coleman or something similar. I would want the most bang for the buck Hondas are great if you were to use it alot. It hopefully won't get used alot in either case I'll need your arm to get them started 😂. I did find a cool little inverter that uses my 20v power tool batteries at least we won't be in the dark

    If you had to pull your Honda "about 50 times" to start it, there's a problem somewhere. I have two EU2200's (Companion and standard), and in the absence of outages, start and run them every six months for 30 minutes. I have never had to pull either of them more than 4 times, regardless of ambient temperature.

  • @JoeTheFarmer

    Nothing wrong with them. You have 2200’s which are upgraded 2000i’s. The 2200’a are much better units imo. But in all honesty, it prob wasn’t 50 times for either. I was prob being a bit dramatic. I should have counted…. Appreciate you watching and hope you don’t have to use those 2200’s this week! We have cold and snow coming. Feels good to be prepared. 👍🏼👊🏼

    Your review does little to answer the question you proposed, “Cheaper generator better than Honda?” Not all inverter generators perform equally well. Under demanding conditions, some models simply fail to deliver the promised increments of power, potentially shutting down or causing appliances to overheat or stall out. Put them under full power and tell me which one performed better. I’ll go with Honda over Coleman all day long, the price increase pays for itself in performance, longevity, and serviceability. I’ll also note that you should take your Honda’s carburetor to a Honda service center and have it cleaned and rebuilt. The jets are obviously varnished or contaminated in some fashion if you have to pull it 50 times. That should cost you $60-$100. Also, there’s a drain screw under the carburetor you can use to drain the fuel when it’s not in use. Running the carburetor to empty isn’t enough. Cheers..

    Fuel consumption comparison?

  • @JoeTheFarmer

    @JoeTheFarmer

    That is a great question. If they were equally sized I would compare…but considering the Coleman is twice the size I’m not smart enough to figure that out! Lol. To be real; it’s brand new. I’ll need to spend some time with it and break it in a bit. But first impressions are that it is a very nice option with a LOT of power! Thanks for watching my friend.
