Is this the BEST ANAMORPHIC ADAPTER? Blazar Nero 1.5x

Фильм және анимация

The Blazar Nero 1.5x anamorphic adapter just might be one of the best budget anamorphic adapters. When used correctly it can render some great results while being extremely light weight and giving some nice anamorphic character with it's 1.5x stretch. One factor that really determines the useability of the adapter is the choice of the taken lens. In this video I test my Nikkor Ai set along with the Helios 44-2 with different sensor sizes to find what works best for me. A little additional real world footage is also shared!
Hope you enjoy!

    The best review I have seen so far for this adapter! most reviewers don't even mention what sensor size and what aperture they were shooting at? how could people get a clear idea about a piece of glass if the reviewer didn't even mention such basic info? Thank you so much!

    Also agree with you on the lens choices. I pair it with a voigtlander set of 40mm f/2.0 SLII, Voigtlander 55mm f/1.2, Voigtlander 90mm f/2.8. all of them are modern lenses that have front elements that get quite near the rear element of the adapter, small lenses, have 52mm front threads so I don't have to use step rings which makes the connection even closer and gives better image quality.

    Thanks! I tried to include as much information possible with real world experience. That lens combo seems great! I would love to have something in the 40ish mm range to be my “wide” lens in FF open gate.

  • @corerage

    @corerage

    I am sure you would find the 40mm voigtlander appealing as it's a fast f/2.0 sharp pancake lens. It clears 16:9 FF with blazar nero. Tried 3:2 aspect and noticed slight vignetting which disappears as I correct lens edge distortion in Resolve anyway. I also use Edge detection ofx to clear chromatic abberation in the bokeh that this adapter produces.

    Nice review! Loved the driving shots! Also nice to see the Z-Cam F6 in all its crop modes. Would love to see Blazar jump into a larger diameter 1.5 - 1.6x adapter. I've got the 1.35x, which works well for my needs but you make a nice case for the 1.5x, especially when using Nikkors and Helios taking lenses.

    Thanks for this! I think you're the only reviewer that showed you can use the adapter with a rail system as opposed to just screwing it onto the lens. Noob question, how close should the adapter be to the taking lens when using rails? Should it almost touch the front element? With the rail setup, I'm temped to try it on the BMPCC 4k with manual (7 Artisans) lenses.

    Good fun. Thanks for your efforts here great video. I have the "other" 1.5x adapter in amber and lots of glass to play with. Try yours with some oval 2x inserts.... ;) Great for getting painterly vertical stretch bokeh. Though at a small cost, slightly less overall out-of-focus mush, which actually sharpens up things a bit with the marvelous, albeit, crappy russian glass.

    Hey Daniel! Thank you so much for putting this together. I am wondering if, like the AIVASCOPE, can you invert the Blazer Nero to obtain a 4:3 image from a 16:9 ? Thank you!

  • @danielp_adams

    Hey Eric thanks for watching! yes you can use it in vertical mode with great results! There's actually some footage of that in the review (the last shots of the real world footage). In this case i used the camera in normal horizontal mode in 3:2 and the anamorphic adapter inverted, it results in almost a 1:1 image. Hope this answers your question haha
