Is This REALLY Traditional Polish Food Or BLACK Food? (Was it Worth it?)

My travels in Europe take me to a town in Poland called Ustroń which is a health resort town in Cieszyn Silesia, southern Poland with many restaurants, attractions, markets and shops for tourists and locals. Next to this town is the river Wisła (Vistula) which is the longest river in Poland. In this video I visit various shops and markets in this town and view the surrounding area then I go get traditional polish food and a beer.
Any recommendations for restaurants or traditional food just leave a comment!.

Hi Andre, this wasn't a museum it was an antique market where you can buy stuff. The dish you ate is a potato cake with sour cream you can also eat the cake with goulash, if you are in ustroń i can recomend you to order potato cake (placek ziemniaczany) with pork chop (kotlet schabowy) and fried sauerkraut (Kapusta zasmarzana) I'm glad you are enjoying Poland. You are such a cheerful and open-hearted person. I wish you a good day and happy journey!

During the busy months, I often don't have time or strength to cook myself, so I go the restaurants. I don't want to be bored, so it's always different place, and the amount of times I had something burned or unedible is just crazy. Literally 3 weeks ago, in Warsaw I went for the dinner at Piwna street. It's literally small alley at the centre of the city. In some restaurant that I don't want to call by name, I ordered "Placki Ziemniaczane z gulaszem mięsnym". Meat part was actually very good, but the potato cakes were even more burned, than the ones in the video.

Yeah, some random place serving potato pancakes (placki ziemniaczane) is almost never going to be good, you can even get digestive issues from old oil and such. They're supposed to be crunchy on the rims and juicy closer to the center, not overall burned like this. These look like ready-to-fry crap quality processed type bought from a supermarket and not hand-made from actually grinding fresh potatoes. Not sure about Ustroń, but if you go to a larger city, you will find these in many restaurants and in mostly 2 varieties - with sour cream, which are designed to be a sweet dish or with goulash, possibly with some melted cheese and mushrooms on top, very garlicky and well seasoned. These are considered "traditional" but are actually called "Hungarian potato pancakes" (placki po węgiersku). Or you could just have them solo, if you actually just like the way fried potatoes taste. You should try it out again, just in some more decent establishment, that focuses more on food than beer.

I recommend Wisła, my home town which is right next to Ustroń. You can literally walk the pathway you were on today (the one with the bike lanes) to Wisła and it won't take long. Wisła is much better for tourists and there's more attractions. I recommend going on the Skolnity wyciąg (ski lift) in Wisła as the views are super pretty. If you want traditional regional food then go to my family's restaurant 'Carmen' on the road between Ustroń and Wisła for the best 'Golonko' dish - they're masters at it and have been serving it for decades with their secret recipe (I promise I'm not biased, haha). Have fun and thanks for visiting my beloved region, I miss it very much.

@Hi Andre, About potato pancakes. The cook blew it. Firstly the are to big and also to thin. You should really ask for a replacement! They are really burned and they should give you a new portion. It's common in such situations, don't resist filing a complaint. Oh and FYI the sour cream in Poland means just a dense cream it is usually added to soups in Poland and CEE, not some prepared a sauce. The dish also looked poor without a deal or some spring-onion... definitely not a place worth to recommend.

To be honest I agree that there's too much of the sour cream, but it's actually quite common to eat the potato pancakes with sugar at least in my area - near Poznań.
