Is this Malaysia’s Most UNIQUE City? (so diverse!) 🇲🇾

Join me on a 3-day road trip to Melaka, Malaysia. We travel 3 hours south of Kuala Lumpur to the town synonymous with the ‘Malacca Straight' - Melaka. It is a historically seafaring trade city, fought over by the Portuguese, Dutch, British, and Japanese before returning to Malaysian hands in the 1950's.
I hit the beach and discovered some fantastic food, including unforgettable satay skewers, Chinese crab, and the cheapest Mookata (Thai barbeque) I’ve ever seen. We witness a BEAR encounter… a smoking frog (?) and cows on the road as I explore what’s probably the most diverse city in Malaysia (or even South East Asia!)
Of course, I had to check out the museums and markets, including Jonker Walk, before scaling the tower of Menara Taming Sari for a better view of the Melaka cityscape. I grabbed a relaxing beer by the river to quench the Malaysian humidity and capped the trip off with a ride on a Pikachu tricycle 👀
0:30 - Roadtrip
6:00 - Malaysian McDonalds
7:01 - Hotel room tour
8:24 - Chinese crab restaurant
9:29 - Jonker Street
11:30 - Hotel facilities
12:19 - Driving downtown
17:10 - Menara Taming Sari
19:55 - Maritime museums (inside the ship!)
24:09 - Pantai Puteri (Princess Beach)
25:06 - Cheapest Thai barbeque buffet!
28:48 - A ride on the Pikachu tricycle
30:30 - Satay restaurant (restoran Ban Lee Siang)
Hotel: Grand Swiss-Belhotel Melaka (2 nights ~500rm / 105 USD / 166 AUD)

5:00 Actually there’s only around 60% of muslims in Malaysia, but 70% of the population is considered as the natives of Malaysia (and not all are ethnic Malays). Around 58% are ethnic peninsular Malays (and they are born muslims), while the remaining 12% consist of the Orang Asli (18 ethnic groups) or the indigenous people of Peninsular Malaysia & also the natives of Sabah (42 ethnic groups) & Sarawak (27 ethnic groups), Malaysia Borneo. The indigenous people of Malaysia are not all muslims, they are of various religions, and some of the older generations are still practicing their animist faith.

Just to clarify to you about Malaysia's main cities. In general, Kuala Lumpur is the biggest city in the country as main economic hub in central region. Then there are two 2nd tier cities which are Penang (biggest city & main hub for northen region) and Johor Baharu ( biggest city & main hub southern region). Then 3rd tier cities; Kuala Terengganu (biggest city & main hub east coast region), Kuching (biggest city in Malaysia borneo & main hub Sarawak state) and Kota Kinabalu (biggest city in Sabah state & main hub Sabah state). Malaysia has 13 states that are self govern and each state has their own capital city. I think it is similar to Australia because we adapt UK style governance.

If you parking everywhere on the shoulder of the road or on the yellow line, the City Council will issue a payment notice up to RM 100 to avoid congestion due to narrow roads. Other days than Monday/Tuesday, you have to pay a parking ticket of 60 cents per hour trough online or buy a coupon at a nearby store or if you fail, you will be notified of a summons like the one you received worth RM 30. You are wrong actually about the statement, Malaysia is not a Muslim country.. I am Malaysian Muslim.. Malaysia is definitely a Muslim country by taking into account Article 3 (1) of Federal Constitution of Malaysia which says Islam is the religion of the Federation.. Plus, our King of Malaysia is also the head of Islam who acts as the protector of Islam in Malaysia.. Malaysia is the member of OIC, an organisation established for Muslim countries as a platform to discuss any issue / proposal for the interest of Muslim communities worldwide.. Due to the fact that Islam is the federal religion of Malaysia, we have JAKIM, federal government agency for administering Islamic affairs in Malaysia on top of other Islamic government agencies.. However, it is also okay to say Malaysia a Muslim majority country because Malaysia has adherents of a number of religions other than Islam.. We guarantee their freedom in practising their respective religion rituals..

Thanks for sharing. Also, I think you should stop comparing the cost of living between Malaysia and Australia. Claiming everything is cheap may be considered as an insult for local People. Economically, the cost of living of a special location is generally in line with what people in that specific location can afford. I believe quality of live is greater in Malaysia than in Australia or other developed counties as the result of a consistent and long term government's policy to make this country pleasant for local people. Malaysia is not particularly looking for foreigners or migrants.

  • @JackAlderton

    @JackAlderton

    Ай бұрын

Thanks Olivia, respectfully I disagree with you. I've been here for years and I'm friends with many locals (& in a relationship) and your views do not represent the majority. Realistically it is affordable given the context. 'Cheap' is a relative term but I do try to avoid using it now given how it can be taken by some. Your economics point is less true than it used to be, given globalisation and the freedom of movement. Many locals are priced out of Sydney (and other 'top' global cities for this reason) - purchasing power for the average person doesn't necessarily correlate with affordability. Quality of life is greater in Malaysia for those in a similar context to me. It isn't for the average person. As for your last point, I strongly disagree with that - it's not true. Skilled migrants are one of the most positive contributions to an economy (the same is true for migration to western countries). I would suggest researching to share of government revenue from different sources. Thanks for watching! P.S. I'll also add that most of my viewers are foreigners who want to see this very comparison. It's what is relevant for them. If you're a local watching or reading this comment, please keep that in mind.

The most popular holiday destination for Aussies is Bali, but rarely do people visit the rest (real) Indonesia. Asia is much more diverse than most Westerners realise. Thanks for your comment!
