It’s always refreshing for a well respected dealer to be up front - but the over stress on this trim issue was unwarranted as so many raw books of this era have similar concerns, not to mention color touches and popped staples. You were up front - at a great price! - so any collector would be happy to obtain with full details. You’ll hate me when we haggle! Great video thank you

Trimming is one of the saddest part about collecting. I purchased an avengers book with the first red guardian and was very excited that I got it for what I thought was a pretty fair price. I got the book send it off to CGC to get that dreaded purple label, it was trimmed on all three sides. The seller was cooperative and basically told me too bad for me and would not help me in anyway. I still have the book in the case and every time I look at it it upsets me. I guess I’m more upset by the sellers behavior than the book itself. It’s too bad because I really like the red guardian and have yet to find another copy that I felt was worth adding to my collection.

I'm 90% sure that's fine. I've got a lot of CGC'ed silver age Marvel comics and it's not uncommon for them to be miscut. Comics weren't really collectable in the 60's, they were most often bought, read, passed around, and eventually thrown out so they were made on a budget - used cheap paper, and printed by cheaper printers, often cut with dull blades (Marvel chipping) etc. I've got at least 10-15 books that look like that and they're all blue label.

This is such a great topic. However, there's a lot of testing you did that was useless in identifying if it's trimmed. Look for a straight edge vs. a crescent and the look for damage that appears to start out of no where and was (trimmed off).

It's cute that you're anxious to have some kid at CGC be the arbiter of whether your eyes are lying to you, but I don't believe that.

i think sometimes they arent cut perfectly from the manufacturer.

The staples are not properly aligned but it doesn't appear trimmed in my assessment.

I don't think it's trimmed, the trimmed books I have seen the internal pages has been trimmed as well...

Good lesson on trimming but based on your research I would say it’s not.

Love that book , Iv got. 9.0 of that copy and it’s a hard book to find In a 9.0 or higher

If it was pressed to straighten the spine roll the inside pages that show would disappear. I think there is no trimming done.

Marvel chipping is the kicker that its not trimmed, in my opinion

It does not appear trimmed to me though I understand why you spent the time to really examine it.

I don't think it is trimmed but you can go online and look at other copies of the book and see if they look the same then you should know for sure.

Thanks for the video is not amazing Spider-Man 361 looks like that too, but in the bottom part on the back and hundreds of book like that I had 3 and all got 9.8

Looks like the top is just rolled a little pushing the cover back.

Think that CGC should get rid of the purple label. I think you can downgrade any trimming or color touch without giving it the dreaded purple label (ie give it a lower blue label grade rather than giving it a purple label). Would make it less stressful to send in a high value comic to CGC - sometimes it is very hard to tell if there's been any restoration.

So because you can't tell if a raw book is restored, CGC shouldn't either ?

Can't you just measure it ?
