The C36 is still technically a pre-merger car as MB first acquired a 50% stake in AMG in 1999. The C36 went into production in 1994 and it was built in the old AMG way, where the car would be stripped back and upgraded at AMG. The C36 came to be significant because it was the first car built under the MB and AMG cooperation agreement.

As someone who grew up with my dads grey market euro 190e 2.3-16 with a cosworth motor and dogleg manual in California - and a total car family - I never could understand why Mercedes were only automatics in the USA 😢

Agreed… but it was just their mentality at the time, and in fairness, the automatics they did end up producing are pretty damn bulletproof so it paid off in that sense… BUT, rowing gears is just more fun for a true drivers car.

Marcus, you were the right stranger to drive the car 😎🤙🏼 Glad you enjoyed and loved the opinions you touched on about the uniqueness of the era and the C36. It is definitely a car that gets flown over a bit with the E36 as such a go to in enthusiasts minds. If these came manual, I think that alone would have greatly affected that overall trajectory, but regardless, the W202 and the C36 definitely are just awesome platforms.

I kinda forgot about your channel for awhile. Nothing personal but KZread stopped telling me you had new videos. Your editing and on camera demeanor have really changed and you seem very comfortable. Not that any of the old stuff was bad. Just wanted to say thanks for the content and I’m back!

I have a Manual 5 speed SLK 230 Kompressor thing is a beauty to drive on the back roads. I also own a C230 Komp 5 speed Auto and it really is a wonderful little sedan still a little fast but man A road trip in anyone of them would be something to remember.

‘97 C36 owner chiming in..mine is all original w/ 206K and runs like new. 1997 (199 imported to USA) had the 5spd auto from the SL series, which is a better match for the high revs available in the hand built! AMG M104 NA inline 6

I had a c280 a long time ago. Really well built car. Some dash cluster problems but otherwise great car. Maybe the Chrysler crossfire manual transmission will bolt up to this??????

The 6 speed Mercedes box from the 202/203 fits straight on.

I'd keep it the way it is.

C36 Kompressor is a whole other religion.

I have one like this but it needs some tlc from a pro.

You should have tested a w202 C43

If he'd manual swap it he should also throw the Steering box out of the window. It would be super cool though.

So is a 95 C36 still desirable? I'm considering but it has the 4 speed. What are the pros/cons of the 4 speed? Those wheels look like C43 wheels, almost like 18" from different angles.

I know this is a old comment but the 722.4 Transmission was tested by Turbo Bandit to be able to handle, stock mind you, 1200 hp. The 722.5 trans in the W210 and 211 can be swapped in as its the same Transmission with an overdrive gear

@@sgtbuttermilk I've read that transmission is more durable than in the C43 or the newer C36. Haven't seen one come up for sale in a while. I see C43 come way more often on Auto Trader. Love the look of the C36.

The E36 looks flawlessly perfect in sedan form (my all time favourite), but this beauty comes really, really close...love it! 😍 Without a doubt, I'd do the gearbox swap.

96 to 99 the auto trans got better esp 1999 i have a 99 c280 2.8 v6 sport i love the W202

I could never ever understand why Mercedes never wanted to make manuals! Why? Or they ever went DCT either It’s such a shame they didn’t do it in AMG models I don’t know why
