I just realized that when it says that the civilization learned to use the power of the holy cross before abusing it, it means they learned how to use cheat codes. I'm not joking

Oh true. Hence the librarian knowing/figuring out he’s in a game
I like how the Librarian, who amassed the most amount of knowledge, chose to seclude himself and keep it all to himself. But when we come to know everything, our last goal is to share all of the knowledge with others. It just goes to show that the Librarian’s biggest folly was his selfish ambition to accrue all of the knowledge for himself, and only for himself.
I loved the irony of the "beautiful" glowing purple lines until you realize what they are. The world is so sinister and everyone basically died.

Really clever analysis! I hadn't put together that the missing platform in the graveyard is the same one in the library, as the manual somehow showed it there already. And the coffee rings being from him makes complete sense too.

I just realized something, the librarian stole the Teleport pad from the graveyard, I hadn't put those peices together yet. If that's the case, where did he steal the sarcophagus from?

My theory is from the ziggurat
“For wisdom that is untempered by kindness is no wisdom at all” is a sick line to end on, that’s raw as HECK
Custodians worship monoliths, but can't pray and never activated them. So that is why Librarian will not reach the Far Shore, you can get there only if you pray on teleport pad. He can fly so no need to use the teleport in Ruined Atoll. It must be frustrating to research all these devices and never being able to use them. Impessed with how much he managed to learn though.

I’m curious if he knew the first heir before their downfall. Why else would he spend so much time studying these things
@fluffy_tail4365

Ironically enough, there must be a way to travel to the far shore without using the forbidden magic of prayer, as the manual states the fox civilization visited it before discovering the "annealed fossils of the future", but it probably relies on the holy cross and the librarian is convinced it is a physical item
@JessZakilly

That’s a really good point! Traveling prior to the tombs may have something to do with dying (to get there) and resurrecting (to come back to canonical plane). The concept of video game lives is a common mechanic and It always bothers me how the librarian has the drawing of a cartridge on his chalkboard, could they be related? He may have been extremely close, but not realize it from thinking it’s a physical item.
@kvm6

late reply, but it's not that they can't pray, but it's that they don't know how to pray, since no one prays and the Old gods aren't left apparently.

Love this! There’s a theory that the custodians’ ancestors may have originally been from the monastery (before it was abandoned), and if that’s the case, maybe praying to the heir is sacrilegious to them
I loved this game when I first laid eyes on it during the reveal. I've played the game on/off since the game released last year. I've been trapped, confused, amazed, frustrated, and more. I finally defeated the heir yesterday and I'm currently on the Golden Path. I didn't even know we could _die_ and return to the world of the living & I don't believe I ever even ran across the disquiet beings in the game lol. This game is so interesting that I just want to learn more. IT's cool that I have over 96 hours in this game, yet there's so much that I haven't experienced as not all playthroughs are the same (that's true for almost all games, but this game was specifically designed that way).
Jess I don't know if you're ever coming back to KZread but these Tunic videos have been fantastic. I'm on my second playthrough of the game and I love it. Everything is so well connected. The Librarian almost figured out he's in a video game. The Holy Cross is literally just cheat codes. I wonder if the all the "gods" being put into obelisks are a metaphor for video game "lives" and the ancient civilization just abused infinite lives for power. Are all the ruin seekers, the Heir, and our hero just iterations of the same character's video game lives? I love how much we can infer from the game. It's like the original video game in-universe WAS Secret Legend and at some point, the characters in that world got a little too aware, "broke" the game, and it became the "Tunic" we play through now.
Wait... So this means that the one taking the notes on the manual is the Librarian? Whoooa
@kirbokirbstar

That would be a cool theory!
Oh so *THATS* why its a cross on the map. I didn't get that until now.
Unsure if anyone has already mentioned this: the OST for the inside of the Library is called "Relics of Comradery" - which I've always found curious. It sounds somehow both heartwarming and sad to me. It makes me wonder whether it's referring to the comradery of the Foxs' civilisation - or, that The Librarian is surrounding himself with reminders of a past life where there were others like him. But from this, I'm wondering whether those others were perhaps the custodians of the Vault? I really dunno.
Haven’t realized Librarian was to the ziggurat before watching your video. For some reason I thought the repurposed table robot could be from somewhere else.
The first thing i did was try to share my wisdom with the librarian

Let me get this straight....... this guy is so smart he broke the fourth wall and figured out he exists inside a videogame??? Metal. So are the beings on the Far Shore are, like, code? The game's hardware? The RGB colour scheme takes on a whole new meaning from this perspective.
@JessZakilly

I definitely don’t want to rule it out. Could the “eyes of the far shore” be the eyes of the player on the other side of a CRT TV screen?

@@JessZakilly "We are THEE eyes of the far shore"? When I thought about colors in this game I looked at the logo on the last page of the manual and noticed something. There are colors: RGB and CMYK. RGB is s color scheme for digital world to emit light through the monitor and CMYK is made for real world ink in printers. Disquiet squid-like beings on the site also look like ink spillage referring to the real world. And this "ink" seems to be the cause of corruption. But that was just a mere assumption... before I saw an early trailer of the game. There was an inscription on the Library: "The Library of the three out of four and the four out of three". Now I am sure this is a thing and Library is the place where they connect digital world to the real world somehow. Or at least developers kept something like that in mind.

You and me both! I have so many questions. New one should be up in the next three days :)
Here's my take on the Librarian, he's an idiot (and Kleptomaniac) who's actively trying to stop Ruin Seekers to fulfil their destiny as is written in the Manual. Ruin Seekers are drawn to the Beacon of Sealed Temple when The Heir is "ailing", i.e. losing power and memories, to replace them. By stealing the key and killing Ruin Seekers he is being roadblock in whoever sealed the Heir's plans. Anyways, this prompted another train of thought, it's implied that Ruin Seekers become next Heir and this is a cycle, but the cycle to function all the Keys would need to be brought back to their original place, and killed bosses be restored. How is that possible??
@JessZakilly
Жыл бұрын
We never see the bodies of the bosses poof away like we do regular enemies…I wonder if that’s why. Does the Librarian have to steal every piece he’s collected all over again every cycle, or do the things he’s acquired stick with him through the cycles? 🤔
@kvm6
Жыл бұрын
@@JessZakilly Librarian's is the only corpse that isn't moved away. Captain of the Guard goes poof, Garden Knight is removed if we return to the arena a bit later (curiously there are several other broken down Garden Knights all over West Garden, why haven't they been removed?), same with Siege Engine. Ruin Seeker for whatever reason doesn't even kill Queen of the Scavengers/Boss Scavenger and presumably she leaves on her own. So, as I said Librarian's corpse is the only one that isn't moved. There could be some significance to it, or it could be an oversight which seems very unlikely.

@@kvm6 Honestly, the most likely reason is that the whole world resets, and we, the players are the ruin seekers. We literally offer The Heir our completed manual, which is a manual of the game, which someone theorised that their world is indeed canonically a game, which makes the Heir realise that their thirst for power was all for nothing. They and The-Heir-to-The-Heir then just hang out and gave fun together, breaking the cycle.

The custodian praying to the the obelisks (seemingly) always made me think that they WANT to activate them and harness the power within. But they couldn't, only our prayers activate them

Very cool lore video! Small note: the music is very loud compared to your voice - made it very hard for me to understand you (I'm not a native English speaker)
Where’d you get the lore for this video? Was it from translating the manual or something else?

The manual and in-game context clues, ex. which pages you find where, asset design, etc. It’s a theory though, so a lot is speculation. :) Everything I use as sources I have catalogued in our new Lore discord if you’re interested: discord.gg/AjC3mHB4
