I grew up with a Filipina best friend and her amazing mom taught me how to make lumpia, chicken adobo, and pancit💗 She also was a second mother to me because my mom left when I was 8 yrs old. I was so blessed to have her in my life. I love you so much Mumma Teresita💗💗

G'day from Australia! I had the pleasure of visiting the Philippines and let me tell you, it was ace! The people there are top blokes and sheilas - so friendly and hospitable. And the food - crikey! Palabok and Adobo were fair dinkum delicious. The culture and scenery are also bonza - from the stunning beaches to the bustling cities. The Philippines truly has it all. Growing up in the 90s people would have such a negative stereotype of Filipino food. Now, you see Filipino restaurants popping up all over Chicago. My culture's food has become a trend, but I'm thankful people are finally opening up to trying it. Thank you for giving it more exposure.

I've been visiting the States, specifically California, since I was a kid, and I think the problem before was that there weren't enough good Filipino restaurants thats why Filipino food got a bad reputation. Not to belittle those Filipino restaurants, but many of them had owners who were probably not good cooks, nor have skills in managing a restaurant. I mean, not anybody can be a restauranteur. Maybe many of them decided on a Filipino restaurant just to make a living in the States but it wasn't really their thing. Whenever we go and eat at a subpar Filipino restaurant, I always think how the Filipino food is being misrepresented and how its a missed opportunity to show other people what our cuisine can truly offer. Filipino food is excellent and can rival the other Asian cuisines. The flavors and variety of our cuisine is amazing. How I wished then that Filipinos in the States who know how to really cook (and there are many) would start their own restaurants and offer better Filipino food. Thank God, now, like you've said, many new Filipino restaurants of good caliber have opened. Hopefully it gives Filipino food the much needed respect.
I want to eat at these places! 😂 I’ve been to Quiapo and Binondo many times and I plan to return next month. It’s funny how the Philippines has the greatest soups despite the fact that the weather is so hot. Usually in the states we eat soup on cold days and nights. Lovin this series from my favorite country 👍🏽

I explained this to my husband that us Filipinos treat eating like a hobby or entertainment cause eating is where families and friends gather. It is def a special bond and moment. Unlike other people like my husband he treats it like just nourishment for the body or something that you just “need”. Us Filipinos we treat as “wants” and “loves”. That’s why when a Filipino invites you to a party and fills your plate with food eat it! Even when you’re full lol. Also gives you take away pls take it.

Bro is SOOO underrated. I’m a Filipino and everything is delicious
There are a number of Filipino restaurants on the west coast of the US. I had many to go to when i was in California. Now I'm in Washington still a good number of places. The best place to eat is at a Filipino's home so good.
Although Sri Lanka and it’s food is becoming more popular I think it’s the most underrated in Asia!
I think I found my first vacation place, thanks Dru and Chui 🌟💥
Usually if there is a decent sized Filipino community, there will be a restaurant. I think one of the reasons why Filipino food is not really famous is because the way it's usually plated. A lot of it is not visually appealing, but things are changing.
@donniebrasco99
Жыл бұрын
You are right. Some Filipino restauranteurs in the US are lacking in knowledge on how to present Filipino in a way that would appeal to foreigners. Years ago, in San Ramon, California, I entered this small Filipino restaurant that was located in a strip mall lined with different Asian restaurants. It was a sad sight because the owner didn't know how to manage a restaurant. Everything was poorly presented, the decor of the restaurant was uninviting, and even the staff was lethargic. Even if they had good food, you wouldn't get to know it because you wouldn't eat there in the first place. I myself quickly made a u-turn out the door. Fortunately, I've been hearing about many new Filipino restaurants opening up in the States nowadays. Many of them are being opened by Filipinos from the Philippines who have knowledge in running restaurants (or a business, in general). They are mostly young entrepreneurs who have the necessary skills and knowhow. I heard great reviews about their restaurants. I hope the trend continues and good Filipino food is enjoyed by many in the US.
filipino cuisine is so underrated. i'm so glad some foreign people appreciate it. 😊

all these are just in Manila so far and coincidentally just the noodle based food. There are thousand more islands with their distinct cuisines. looking forward to more parts/episodes coming. i think a part of what makes it underrated is because each region have their own taste preferences, its not easy to say "these" are what makes it filipino food.

@donniebrasco99
Жыл бұрын
That 'socks' comment was inappropriate. Mr. Chui, next time do better please. I've eaten at Masuki (they have other branches, even in some malls) and at its cousin restaurant Ma Mon Luk , which is older. Their broth and noodles is not really luxurious. You can say that its even a commoners' noodle soup because it was indeed a commoners' noodle soup. It was started by Mr. Ma Mon Luk way before World War 2. He peddled it in the streets, carrying the tins filled with noodles and soup. It is not luxurious in taste compared to, say the Hong Kong noodle soups in most Chinese restaurants in Manila, but they have this flavor that makes it like a comfort food - nothing fancy but simple goodness. You put some pepper on the soup, some of the sweet sauce of the siopao too, and that noodle soup is banging together with the siopao!

Top 10 Filipino Foods that I, a filipino myself, would DEFINITELY recommend. 10. Sinigang (a sour stew, sometimes with usbong, a type of leaf that gives flavor) 9. Adobo (a salty stew with lots of vinegar and soy sauce) 8. Giniling (ground meat with carrots and potatoes) 7. TORTANG (Fried) Giniling (an egg battered giniling patty that is basically the improved version of giniling) 6. Lumpiang Shanghai/Toge/Ubod (spring rolls with meat and vegetables) 5. Nilaga (which literally translates to boiled, its a stew with cabbage and corn with meats like pork or beef) 4. Pancit Bihon (gelatin noodles usually included with Lechon Kawali, which is fried pork and vegetables) THE TOP 3 (these hit hard) 3. BULALO (which you've already tried) 2. CHICHARON (the best snack which can actually serve as a meal) 1. P A L A B O K (you know why.)
