Is this amaran the BEST VALUE in LED Lighting?

Are you in the market for a new RGB LED? In this video, I go over my experience using RGB constant light products from amaran. The amaran 300C and PT4C are both bicolor RGB LEDs to allow for endless creative possibilities at budget pricing. The amaran 300c is a 300 watt RGBWW point-source LED with exceptional color blending that allows for use with hard light modifiers without the typical issues of color fringing and stair-stepping. The amaran PT4C is a pixel tube light, meaning you can dial in color effects to create effects that typically require DMX systems connected to multiple lights. The best part about these lights is they are affordable for solo cinematographers.
If that wasn't good enough, the lights are all discounted significantly for Black Friday. View full details on the sales via this link:

I couldn't pass it up, I bite and bought a 300. I'm a strobe guy 100% but I couldn't resist the deal. Wish you had a sponsor link so you cut a cut. Glad to see you back Rob!

I think you may have misspoke. 300x and 600x are bi-color. I knew what you were trying to say though.

Great video. I have been digging around a lot to figure what is actual brightness of 300c. I am torn between this or Godox SL300III to have most light output. Like you have in this video as a keylight. Just light which lights up space pretty nice and even. I guess 300c is not for that?

What rolling light stand do you have the large parabolic on? Are the legs not round and does the weight stay secure on the leg?

It is a Flashpoint 3 section C stand with the FP rolling base (instead of turtle). The legs are flat / rectangular, so the Manfrotto counterweight doesn’t move at all.

Nope, it’s very quiet, though most modern LEDs are as well.

I needed this video, very timely as I couldn't find decent comparisons between these and the godox. Of I read the specs I've seen flaoting around the respective 150 / 300 Godox's models are more powerful than Amaran's right? But Amarans are cheaper. Head to head which do you favour and why?

(I work for amaran) The amaran's use RGBWW vs just RGB diodes of the Godox's. This will usually lead to higher color accuracy. The Sidus app for Aputure and amaran products has far more features as well and easier setup. The Lux rating used for the Godox's are not listed at what beam angle they used. They pull about the same power so intensity through a softbox should be about the same.

(Rob here) you stating that Godox models are more powerful had me test them in depth yesterday. Power comparisons are all over the place for a number of reasons. First, a test in a reflector begs the question of where to zoom the Godox SZ to. You can increase output by narrowing the area of coverage. And then if you test via projected light, each lights kit is optimized for their respective lights. But I found the Amaran seemed to perform better there (likely because the light source is more direct having less dramatic diffusion). And then there’s RGB and bicolor values that shift results wildly. Like the Godox SZ produces 120 degree blue at -3.2 stops of its 5600k output (in a reflector). Whereas the Amaran only -2.3 stops. All this to say, power really depends on what color / temperature you test and what modifier you test it in. It’s all over the place so there’s no single conclusion.

Thanks Rob, i was desperate to see you do a review of the Amaran's vs the Godox a month ago when those Amaran's came out, literally couldn;t find anyone doing what you do. Could only go on the spec sheets of Lux output which I appreciate is but one version of the story, appreciate your thoughts on the matter as always. @@robhallphoto
