Is THIS Alberta's TOUGHEST Overland TRAIL?

Time for another Adventure! Two weeks ago, I failed to make it to the Summit of Marble Mountain. I don't like to fail; so I jumped on the first chance I had to get back to Limestone. My wife opted out of this one so I knew I would be able to tackle the stairs once again. Would I finally make it?
This trip started as a solo run but I ran into a bunch of familiar faces along the way and I ended up running one of Albertas most challenging trails in a group.
The trail connects Marble Mountain to Limestone Mountain and it's a trail that has a little bit of everything...Rock Crawling, deep V-Notches, crazy steep hill climbs. This trail is often compared to BCs Whipsaw trail; but it packs all of Whipsaws most difficult elements into a 23 KM run!

    Did this trail on Thanksgiving weekend this year. Had only been up on a quad before many years ago. Had a lot of fun, a few spots sketched out the misses but our group of two unlimited Rubicons (a 2023 on 37's and a 2008 on 35's) did well. Had my 2 year old son with us and he fell asleep on the final climb to the towers. No one else out when we went so had the trails to ourselves. Enjoyed the video!

    @@smackfpv yeah I was at the summit of marble around noon; ran into the red deer pack rats up there and we did the limestone connector the rest of the day. Wrapped up around 6 atop limestone. Was a great day and the weather was absolutely perfect.

    Man what a great video! Excellent production quality! Music, camera angles, video content, narration was spot on! It was like watching a short movie that I couldn’t wait to see the ending. Very well done! AND I’ve been up limestone a few times so it was great to see another (very challenging) way up!

    That you so much for the kind words!! The Marble/Limestone route, as of right now, is my FAVORITE trail in all of Alberta. It might not be as scenic as the Racehorse Pass trail in crowsnest but it's more technical which for me gives it the edge. It's a trail that I will do every single year...just not with the Wifey hahahah!

    Yeah I was really stoked to run into your group. Thanks for the feedback. I used to do a documentary series in the R/C world; the company that paid for the series (Pro-Line Racing) got sold during COVID so my series got cancelled. I still have all this killer camera gear so putting it to good use. Thanks for the feedback and would love to wheel with your group anytime anywhere :)

    As far as i know my 2022 rubicon comes with 4.88 gear ratio? I've heard i can put 35's on it without any other changes. But i like the idea of a lift. Thank you for your advice as i am a new jeep owner (I've had it for just over a year now). I have it set up for camping, i have an Alu-cab rooftop tent on it.

    Thanks, I've got a 2022 4 door wrangler rubicon. I just have the stock 33's and no lift yet. I'm just trying to determine how much of a lift i should get and what size tires? I don't think i want to go bigger than 35's? I like the trips you take so I'd like to have my Jeep built capably enough to do those trails.

    Keep in mind with 35 it’s STRONGLY recommended to go to 4.56:1 gears to maintain a factory rollout. I’m on 4.10 and it’s lacking low end grunt. Putting in 4.88s or 4.56 in spring.

    Thanks for checking it out! I have the TeraFlex ST3 Sport kit on my JK (1213000) which is a 3" lift. I've been really happy with this lift; it drives great on and off the trails. I don't get any rub anywhere at full articulation on 35s. I am realizing more and more that I do need to go to 4.56:1 gears at the min. That will be my spring project :)

  • @JustEmptyEveryPocket

    @JustEmptyEveryPocket

    I unfortunately don’t know anything about SxS. The stairs are steep; when the front wheels are on the ledge it’s 42 degrees. I don’t know how good a RZR is at rock crawling. There won’t be much weight on the front end. You can get to the summit from both sides of the mountain. The cell tower side is the more difficult way. It’s one of my favourite areas for wheeling; if you’ve never been check it out!

    Overland trail not off-road trail; I know it’s semantics, but if you want your video watched you need a silly title like this one. I know for a fact that Twisted Trail is way tougher than the connector.

  • @JustEmptyEveryPocket

    It’s pretty easy to find; it’s generally referred to as Limestone mountain. There’s a couple ways to get there from Calgary. The boring way is to take highway 2 and head through Sundre. The fun way would be to start at the ghost falls staging area near Waiparous and go north on 40 until you hit the FTR. That will lead into this area. It’s all crown land so from here just grab a few buddies and go explore. It’s probably my favorite off-road area in Alberta. Both Marble and Limestone mountains come up on a Google maps search. Enjoy!
