Jackie Stiles had a moment at the turn of the century. She embraced the imagination of the country. She became Rookie of the Year her first season in a league that wasn't invented when she claimed early in life that she would grow up to be a part of! These are moments in time. JS held the scoring record for 17 years! It will be interesting to see who will break CC's record. I'm convinced that female hasn't been born yet. It has been and will always be about the moment. Not the past nor the future. Everything great in this life, happens NOW! ENJOY NOW!🤙🏽❤️

Clark might be a unicorn. Natural talent is the constraint on "stepping up one's game". I don't see Clark fandom translating into WNBA games in general drawing bigger crowds. It's like, national interest in the Cavs dried up real quick when Lebron left, and then when he left again. But you never know.@@jimbickel4001

I have been a season ticket holder you to Iowa women's basketball ga,as since 2003 season and remember being happy with a couple thousand people in attendance on average with a really good Iowa team back than. They could have been better if not for injuries and transfees.nobody talks about this team that had dwb remedy briefly on our team before going closer to home after freshman year. She was Mrs basketball and was one of the best shooters I have ever seen. She was like Clark in several ways. She broke every naia national college record there was after transferring from here. She scored well over 3k points, and holds many records. Her free throw percentage record and others still stand I believe. I know it's a level down from division 1 but she was recruited by all the big names back than. Had she stayed she would have broke the ncaa scoring record. What could have been if she hadn't got home sick. Had a nasty step back 3 pointer. I the fan in me wants to belive this is a movement. To an extent it is. It's not black and white. It's somewhere in the middle or upper middle as women's sports in general are finally getting some of the eyeballs they deserve. I fear once Clark leaves here we won't be able to sustain the momentum she has built here and go the same way Oregon did or Washington did after loosing their once in a generation talents. I just hope all the bandwagon jumpers don't get harsh and stay around when we are rebuilding next year. It's funny because we have nobody healthy recruit wise or on our bench. No experience on the bench and she is in crutches. Incoming 5 star point guard guyton (Indiana men star aj guytons daughter) coming in with ACL. So next year will be tough and I expect a drop off. I hope the fans stick around and continue to sell the place out. That would shock me and make me happy if that continued. I remember going the games where we never competed for big ten titles going to the wnit and having 10-6 records in the big ten and having black curtains arou d the arena down to make it look full! I hope those days don't return.

Dan, there is an intangible which is never brought up in regards to the WNBA. There is no doubt Clark will have an effect on the future of the WNBA. But, where is the 'love' for her and the league in general? Of course some players are absolutely adored by fans of her team but it stops there. Someone has to come along who has to have wonderful basketball skills and relates to the fans in such a way the fans 'love her' and that love will begin to rub off on her team as a whole and fans for other teams will begin searching for players they can love, too. I loved Clyde Frazier and I loved the '69 Knicks! Only when that passion takes the WNBA by storm will it ever gain the popularity it needs to be truly successful. Is there a player who can carry such a load? A player who touches the hearts of fans from 'every team' because of 'who she is' as a person and a skilled basketball player? Yes, there is. Paige Bueckers. PLEASE, don't misunderstand me. This is not a comment comparing Clark to Bueckers. It's just that Paige has that 'something' and, you know what? The other players in the league will take notice how the fans react to her and they will begin to understand they are playing for the fans and without the fans supporting them passionately their chances for great success are slim.

I think lost in all the scoring talk was discussion about how good of a passer she is. I was happy to hear Dan talk about that. As for her career arc. I would guess that the WNBA might receive an immediate bump which will taper off. However, 6-10 years later when a fresh group of women, that have modeled their game(s) after hers join the league, it might really have a chance to take off

The problem is, she is exciting in multiple facets and played at Iowa with average players. Take JuJu, she is a great scorer, but she does not elevate her team and really doesn’t pass. She can play defense, but defense isn’t a big crowd draw in basketball. There have been many high level scorers in women’s college basketball that haven’t gained the attention Caitlin has. Maybe Iowa’s media and marketing departments knocked it out of the park because they definitely did. The person that has the best chance from a passing perspective is Hidalgo. She has great court vision, but she doesn’t score/shoot like Caitlin. Caitlin has been this offensive dual threat elite player for 4 years. It is hard to copy/paste that with another player. These two talented freshman I listed also went to traditional powerhouses in USC and Norte Dame, not a above average or lower program. I’m a Hawkeye fan. I’d love to see Iowa continue to be improving in basketball, recruiting looks promising, but I think everyone expects attendance and viewership to drop off when the lighting rod moves to the next level. I think many of us feel the WNBA will find a way to screw up the situation with Caitlin too.

All they do is jack-up a ton of three-pointers, everything is out on the perimeter, very little defense &a fast paced style of play. That's the NBA & WNBA, if Embiid or Giannis aint playing the NBA game looks the same as most WNBA games; where it had always been about your skills; dribbles, pass, shoot &that's today's NBA in a nutshell as well

I loved watching Caitlin Clark play basketball at Iowa too, but the WNBA is honestly a downgrade for her. Iowa women's basketball home games sold out all season for 2023-2024. WNBA games never get sold out, most of the wnba players either can't dunk or won't dunk, too many Wnba players complain too much, and to be honest alot of Wnba players aren't even attractive. That league also never brings in revenue, and has to strictly rely on the NBA for financial support.

Moment or movement? Depends on how the WNBA responds. I’v had no interest in the WNBA mostly because of the level of play, but also because of why I stopped watching NBA games (I was turned off by the overpaid whiners, especially the disingenuous claims of racism). If the WNBA properly welcomes CC and CC has memorable moments early on (e.g., outstanding passing and unheard of “Logo 3-pt” shots), then it could be a movement. Aside from years that the Lady Longhorns (my alma mater) were contenders, I rarely watched women’s college basketball, until the last couple of seasons (because of Paige Bueckers, which interest started a few years earlier when I became aware of Paige’s dominant skills in high school; if it weren’t for Paige, I might not have heard of Caitlin Clark before she broke the scoring record). But Caitlin captured my interest early this season because of her exciting play and how she made everyone around her better. CC’s 1st game at Iowa as a freshman was pretty interesting to watch, but hardly anybody saw it (the stands were empty). Now, Iowa sells out tickets at every game because of Caitlin Clark.
