Is there GRADE DEFLATION at BU? College Students Answer | Boston University
Boston University is notorious for its grade deflation...so is it actually real? I go around campus and ask the people most affected: the students. See what they have to say.

You gotta ask their major
GPA deflation definitely exists at BU! I am fine that if my major courses are much harder than other courses, but the problems is that I have spend a lot of time in the general courses. When I had to study very hard for PASSING a 100 level course , I thought like what the hell was that. However, if you could find the "balance" for your life and study, you would feel great. Unfortunately, I still cannot find it until now and I almost graduate.👍🏻
It's absolutely real and terrible if and when you're shooting for all As! It doesn't affect average laidback students as much. The professors only give out 1 or a few As depending on the size, and sometimes the highest given out is A- which is ridiculous, which I've petitioned for to no avail! I know because I worked my ass off beyond ridiculous for those impossible As! Many people from MIT and Harvard dropped out of my graduate classes.
isnt a B- always a 2.7?
I feel grade deflation, while rigorous, can definitely be good as it shifts to focus to truly understanding the material and enjoy learning. The goal is to challenge yourself and appreciate learning. I got into Boston University as a Neuroscience Major on a Pre-Med Track so I feel this will help me deal with the rigor of medical school.
Do u think it’s school/major specific? Premed ? Engineering?

I would say it's class specific, not necessarily due to the school or major.
