Here's part two of finding a musician's most popular song and deciding whether or not it's actually good. In addition, we'll go through with a criteria of how good the song is on its own without context, whether or not it represents the artist at hand, and if that track could be one of their very best. We're discussing the following musicians: Frank Ocean, Travis Scott, Coldplay, Drake, Bon Iver, Jay-Z, Nirvana, Weezer, Gorillaz, Pink Floyd, Daft Punk, Sza, Doja Cat, Ariana Grande, and Beabadoobee.

Now for “Something just like this” case, it’s not really much about the band and more so about Chris Martin singing on a Chainsmokers song, so I believe it doesn’t represent them at all 💀 also, I think Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida” is imo the bigger hit and is the much better song overall. Also, Daft Punk in my eyes is kinda like Weezer, for me it’s hard to tell which of their hits is their most popular and their best, because ALL OF THEM ARE GREAT. For me it would be between “One More Time” and “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” But Get Lucky was a good choice. Once again, great video! ❤

as a big arianator i absolutely agree with your opinion about 7 rings, its not her best song and it doesn't represent Ariana as an artist the best, i think songs like into you one last time god is a woman greedy and no tears left to cry repersent her way better, because they are pop and r&b which are her usual generes she's known for, and because they represent her really well as pop singer, the problem with 7 rings is that it makes Ariana look like a rapper while she's not one. Also she usualy makes songs about love and not about money so 7 rings just seems wierd on first listen to me, now i like this song but when i listened to it for the first time it felt wierd

10:34 I always used to resent 7 rings not because of the actual quality of the song, but the sheer fact that a lot people genuinely only know Ariana Grande from that song. It’s insane. If she should be defined by any song, her as an artist, her talent, her sound, and her as a human, tracks like Get Well Soon, Leave me Lonely, My Hair, POV, and Imagine definitely define her sound more than 7 rings ever did. I’m terms of albums, Positions, Sweetener, and Dangerous woman define her sound the best

I don't know which song of Coldplay is considered their most famous. Maybe "A Sky Full Of Stars"? To me, "Something just like this" isn't a Coldplay song. I don't even know how much influence the band Coldplay had in the creation of the song. It sounds like a typical Chainsmokers song (of that time). I guess that somehow the band's name ended up as a feature guest although it's just Chris Martin singing. Same goes somehow for "A Sky full of Stars". It is a Avicii production with Chris Martin vocals and who knows how much input from the rest of the band but for whatever reasons, they decided to keep Avicii's name out of the releases' name.

No. And further, it was so extremely big and more popular than any of their other songs than some of their later great to exceptional work. Also, similar to how you mentioned pink floyd, think of Yes and Genesis who also had one hit way bigger than the others that aren’t representative of their best work (although, some might argue that Owner of a Lonely Heart is still one of Yes’s best)

I can definitely see its catchiness and radio playability (idk if that's still a thing). Still, I would argue that almost EVERY other Song they've ever made is more creative, original, meaningful and, at least for me, more fun to listen to. Whenever I tell somebody about Glass Animals, it's like: "Ah, Heat Waves band, right?" Super annoying.1xl

His Pink Floyd analysis was rough, when looking at a band from the album era (especially THE quintessential band from that era) you can’t really judge them based on songs. The reason Another brick pt 2 is a hit is because after Syd Barrett left the band switched to long form songs that did not translate to marketable singles. An album like dark side or WYWH have single like moments but the albums were anchored by the sum of its parts. Dark Side is one of the most successful albums of all time but you don’t see it’s tracks topping any singles charts.

As a hybrid metal band that covers a wide variety of genres, picking a “best song” is pretty difficult. I’d personally pick Fearless, it’s energetic chorus combined with the epic instrumentals show off what Amaranthe is at its core. It highlights the three vocalists doing some of there best work and the instrumentation is off the charts. I’d highly recommend checking it out.

Been listening to travis scott lately. Rodeo is generally regarded as his best work but honestly astroworld has some his best songs by far. Stargazing is so good. Sicko mode is definitely not the best song on that album but its by far the most popular. No bystanders is better than sicko mode by a lot.

I feel an example of one of their worst songs being their most succesful comercially is Björk's It's oh so quiet. It would be red in the second and third categories, maybe green or yellow in the first.

It's great in context, but it can in no way compare to some of their more ambitious tracks (such as the ones listed in this video). It's an amazing song, but it's really just a good, short pop song with a groovy disco beat and doesn't offer as much musical or thematic exploration as others.

@@AlfoMedia Sure, no problem. Going from Daft Punk to SZA for instance, or SZA into Doja Cat, or Doja into Beabadoobee. Adding a tiny bit more space would make it sound more natural imo. Even just 500ms can make a huge difference. You're doing a great job, and there's A LOT of channels that completely ignore natural speaking-flow in their edits. Some channels I never know when they reach the end of a sentence lol. But it's hard, esp if you do your own editing, and I get the fear of people clicking off your video if the pacing isn't quick enough.
