Is the Z900RS a good track bike?! NCBike & Future mods!

I was asked this a lot back in October, at the time I didn't think it was fair to make a video as the suspension was an absolute basket case with me on it. So here it is, not the definitive answer by any means as I only did 6 sessions this time.....but I feel a fair one!

What do you think? Would you have a Z900RS for the street and track or is there another bike you'd go for instead?

@Thegorillabiker hey! I had no idea you were there. First, I want to thank you!! I also have a 1996 GSXR 750 that I used your videos to help rebuild my carbs! Second, I thought you rode very smooth and consistent. I was one of the coaches at N2. #61 on the white Ducati 959. Would love to chat more next time. See you October maybe?

Oh really! That's mad, small world and you're more than welcome. I still price shipping that bike over here every once in a while 😂 Thanks!! Nice to hear it from an outside source, I wasn't unhappy with how I went but definitely wasn't 100% fitness wise. Ah nice, I was admiring your bike at one point actually 😂 Yeah absolutely! I'll be back in July and hopefully October money allowing!

Seeing you sitting in your garage using a bit of natural light all I can think of is that you might have one neighbor that's like "there goes that guy with his motorcycles again" every time you’re working on them or when you ride off or come home and I am so here for that. I can't wait for you to have people over all on motorcycles to really make them wonder what is going on.

Hahaha I keep the door low enough so they can't see my face :D That'd unnerve me. Honestly no one speaks to anyone in my subdivision and I hate it. It's so weird to me having zero relationship with your neighbours. They definitely think I'm mad though working on stuff in a oven garage this time of year :D I've had one or two, but I have no local friends with bikes yet sadly :'(

Question...? Would you not feel cheated trying to go faster with a smaller engine? You definitely need the rear sets as clearly it was in your mind the whole time so you were holding back. My instinct is to go with the higher option just to be sure you won't be thinking about it. Sounds like you need to try a sprocket change to prevent revving out in 5th. Those poor tyres . . . 😢. It shows how much bikes have evolved because when I started riding I thought it was normal for bikes to weave and wallow around corners. It was fun to watch the headstock moving from side to side in the tank cut out . . . . All my race bikes were road bikes. I don't know that I could steel myself to race here on underbone or ducks, I certainly don't want to ride them on the street 🤣. An interesting video. Keep having fun !👍

Probably....possibly.....but there are 400cc endurance races I think it would qualify for..... Yeah as soon as they started touching down I back off, I've seen that cause too many accidents. The Sato option _looks_ more solid also, but that could just me me. The Gilles have a rotating mechanism to move the peg height and I can't see that being as durable. I would but I don't want to lose too much acceleration either.....plus you'll always have weak points to keep a bike comfortable and fun on the street too. Haha they did a great job, very sticky :D It definitely used to be more normal, even just frame geometry and frame flex, swingarm flex etc etc. Modern bikes are so so stable in my experience, this bike is way easier to feel the limits on than even the GSXR for instance. Hahaha fair enough!! I'd watch them go at it tho :D Thank you sir!

I didn't appreciate the grounding while watching your laps. That would definitely scare me!!! Not that I would be getting my knee down anyway 😂😂 Get the rear sets and slicks, then save for the Tuono - I know I'm no bloody help at all, but I thought I'd say it anyway 😂😂😂 Cheers, Andy.

Yeah you can barely hear it a few times, I had mostly sorted how far I could push after the first 3 sessions(which I didn't record). Ah it's not bad, it's just a recipe to hit a bump and unload your suspension which would not be fun. Oh I'm terrible at knee down, , my hips are very inflexible. Hahaha a Tuono is sadly a pipe dream, I genuinely have no idea how people afford something like that. Thanks amigo :)

Daily riding yes, but I'd be concerned about their design a little, it has a rotating peg assembly and I wonder would it be as solid as a fixed assembly.

I wonder if it is worth gearing the bike to make 5th the highest gear you need so it doesn't bounce off the limiter and then just have the tall 6th for highway cruising 🙂 Not sorting the suspension settings is a great way to see the difference when you do... not idiot... Scientist, you is a scientist! 😀 Novice group should only ever have novice riders... We get a lot of folk who want to make themselves look better than they are by going in novice when they should be inters or even fast. One of our tracks; Anglesey has a real issue with racers using the trackdays as practice for racing the following weekend so book into any group they can get in on which really should not be allowed. I say all that, but did bung myself into novice at Anglesey on my V7 the other year after spending all morning being a mobile chicane in inters group, but even then, my lap times on a heavy 50bhp bike were still a fair bit faster than most of the novice riders, it was just safer for me to be there than in inters. I think the Sato rearsets will be too much, will put your rear of foot too close to the pillion pegs Ahh noooo, don't do the CFMoto450... nothing against the bike, but too much money for a gimmick toy.... can get a far better track bike for less. Now a CFMoto MT450 Rally and getting out on a BDR... 😀 My ideal street/track bike would probs be a Street Triple 765RS.

I have thought about that, it's plenty fast enough on the road anyway so taking a smidge of acceleration away would be grand. Hahaha yes, I'll take it, I was doing Science!!!! :D Yep it was the same in mondello, but it was also extremely full there always so that also makes a difference, and the passing rules more lenient. I think some of the passing rules over here are mental, I get it's a track day but you should still be able to ride closely and safely with someone else. But that does make the proper group more important still eh! Yeah that's very fair, a good way to split groups would be lap times really, irregardless of the bike etc. But that would mean better passing rules per group and a bit more of a learning curve for newbies. I've come up with a possible much cheaper solution, you'll see it soon :) I don't know what to do anyway tbh.....I think the CFMoto would be cool but you can get a used ZX10R for less so.........I want all the bikes :'(

Are the rearsets for track use only? Will you revert to stock when you are riding on the road? The ideal bike for me for combined track and road riding would be the BMW M1000R (but like the Tuono, it is a touch out of my budget). I had the same issue with top end speed with the Griso. It was the only time I felt like I did not have enough power (or top speed) was on a track day. Another reason that I am building the RSV as a track bike.
