The FX3 because you can rig it up and strip it down and it has IBIS which the FX6 doesn't have. Internal NDs are great but the amount of mobility and discretion the FX3 allows is remarkable. However, it also just depends of the type of content you produce.

Mateo, my man! WOW, what a review. YOU touched upon every concern I would have as well. I agree that as much as most of us would prefer a better solution for the audio inputs, most productions have an audio engineer for that job!!!!! NO ONE ever mentions that. BRAVO for your articulation, and your in depth experience.....EXTREMELY VALUABLE REVIEW. What MOST do NOT know is that the FX6 hot shoe is equipped to work perfectly with most of the newest sony wireless mic systems. That was never mentioned in any literature, but since I already owned a sony system, having the hot shoe makes for a cleaner connection WITHOUT all the wires going into the camera, AND the two SLR inputs can be used in unison with the sony hot shoe mics. FYI. Also, phenomenal for you to include your FX6 kit details....for the novice, this is priceless.

Great review. I think one thing that I don’t agree with you on is the rigging. I do love how u can strip it down and rig it up big but I feel like the ports (SDI and hdmi, timecode) are hard to get to when they are all used. Maybe it’s cause I use the title cage tho lol

Regarding the lack of the mini jack input that really depends on the use .. you’re clearly more comercial / set dop and indeed , working with crew and sound recordists.. yet the FX6 is also a fantastic run and gun, one man band camera for documentary and news work for example. In that case, the lack of audio input is much more critical than the quirky playback UI … All comes down to the use of course .. Still mostly use my FX3 and getting very similar results in terms of image quality.. but missing Intrrnal ND so bad (specially in these run n gun documentary situations) .. Great review . Great video and in depth review Mateo! I love this camera and it would be great for me. Only thing is I hear there could be a new version soon? I would like to update but worried the technology could get old fast because it’s a few years old. Any thoughts on this? Thank you!

If you’re always worried about the next camera then that means the current jobs you have now don’t even have the demand for the current one. You can always sell and upgrade but you can never time the market . This camera will be great for years to come

Check out the new DJI Mic 2 Sony Hotshoe adapter. It now works with the FX6.

Agree on the playback,the monitor sucks as well.The audio has never been a problem for me.I think it’s still the best camera in the market today for its price.Thx for the review.

Does the fx6 image punch with the Ursa? And is the Fx9 image waaaay superior to the fx6? I appreciate your time and response . Thank you

You should just rent them and test them out I’ve never used a g2 . The fx9 is slightly better than fx6

i mean a burano is 4x the price of the fx6 so it just depends on your current economic status and level of work you are getting

Why not a second hand Venice 1 instead? Cheaper and better image quality than the Burano ;-)

Hey man absolutely stellar video. This is my first time on your channel. I appreciated how honest and real it felt. I have a few questions for ya.... 1. Do you rent your camera out in addition to billing the client for a shoot? Or are you renting it out other cinematographers? 2. I just booked my first feature doc. 100% self produced. I havw an A7iii and have been using my old works fx3 for thenlast two years. Ready to make the jump to the fx3. If you had $3,000 and no lenses, what would you buy for doc shoot?

From my engineering knowledge, you over expose/expose to the right/expose for the highlights and shadows when the sun is in the shot and there is a huge dynamic range difference, but you expose to the left/under expose/expose for the shadows when you don't need that extra dynamic range. You just need to understand that most of the colors we see are exponential, not linear, and that the 8-bit/10-bit/12-bit color depth is not by default and must be converted to and from log, and when you do that you "push the blacks into the noise floor", which means that the sensor noise gets lumped in with the blacks when there is much more range of blacks, which gives you grain, so you want to overexpose 1.667 stops for 10-bit log. Gerald Undone breaks this down in his A7S III review excellently.

I only rent it out when I’m hired as a DP and charge it to the production as a camera package I don’t rent it to people

Sony really killed it with the FX30/FX3/FX6 releases and with the Burano they made what is ostensibly the perfect cinema camera. For me, the FX3 is probably the best overall cinema camera on the market given how much is packed into that form factor.

@@MateoToro Seems like your lav, sometimes when you import audio into premiere and sync it it can become panned. Just look at the effects controls for your lav audio.
