You think Apotos was already a thing in Sonic's universe back in SA2 for example? 🤔 I mean Sonic's universe does seem pretty inconsistent from some games to others.

Fun fact about Ian Flynn for those who don't know: He actually got his start in Sonic media as a fan-comic artist. His work was called "Sonic - Other M", and was about the Archie Comic version of Sonic ending up in another reality where Knux is the big bad. He got discovered by Archie because of this and even referenced his fan comic in one issue of Sonic Universe. Of course, he stayed on with the Sonic comic when it moved to IDW. For the record...no I do NOT know whether or not he laughed his arse off when "Metroid - Other M" came out, but I would like to think that he did.

The name of the dish, seven rings in hand is a nice reference cause it’s the name of the final boss song/theme of the game. It would have been perfect if there would have been seven different donuts to represent the seven rings but nobody will make seven different frostings so I do understand that

I love that even with all the fake fans who have strewn chaos into the fandom by hating literally every game(and somehow still say they are fans) Sega themselves actually seem to love their creation. I also love the nod towards secret rings.

@@Glitchy1988 They're not fake fans, Secret Rings was just a botched attempt at motion controls that would've been way more fun with normal controls.

Coffee in chili does a similar thing to the flavours of the peppers as it does to chocolate. It adds a depth of roasted flavour without having to char your peppers on the stove, which some people can't do if they don't have gas burners (not to mention the smoke/fire risks). Also, some of the chemical compounds in coffee can interact with certain foods to make them taste more intense (sort of like how MSG works.) It tends to work best in stewed dishes like chili, but it's also used in things like mole sauces.

@sashawaybright2698 that's if the jalapeños aren't removable. I imagine the chili isn't gonna be all that spicy with the sweetness of the brown sugar and the deep, roasted flavor of the coffee. I mean I'm sure they wouldn't want kids to eat something overly spicy

So glad you enjoyed this book! As a lifelong Sonic fan and someone who started buying a bunch of nerdy cookbooks, I had to get it immediatly on release and I was so impressed by it. A lot of love was put into it and I'm excited to try making the chili soon. And I had the same thought, the fact that every single recipe has a picture is a huge win in my book as well! I really enjoy your videos, thanks for reviewing these books! I found myself really loving some of these cookbooks so it's always great to have a second opinion on the ones I'm unsure about because some of these are kind of gimmicky haha. (I recently got the first dnd cookbook after watching your video on it several times, and it's such a good one too!)

I adore the idea of in-character cookbooks. It gives you a really fun way of looking at the characters involved. Like, the Evil Cookies recipe is a nice standard recipe for oatmeal cookies, but it's a perfect encapsulation of Eggman's pettiness. You just have to read between the lines of the dish itself and Amy's comments on it and the prank practically writes itself.

Funny how the Old Movie design is the New Sonic 06, in terms that people will bring it up for absolutely no reason other than to make fun of it.

Honestly, I was already thinking of getting the book, but this cemented it. The one thing I needed to know was if the chili was gonna be good. If it wasn’t, then they failed the most important recipe to sonic

This cookbook has much more flair than I expected ngl. You can really tell a lot of love was put into this book with all the comic/song references, fun flavor text and genuinely great-looking food! If I were to ever get my hands on this, i'm absolutely making myself the Post-Adventure Treat sundae. Great vid as always :D

Thanks for the video! I made a few from the Sonic cookbook, and they were pretty tasty. I made Diamonds in the Sky, Gardon's Scones, Eat N’ Run Oats, Island's Bounty Salad, Imperial Tea, and Tangled Leads of a Delicious Mystery. Those were darn good! I'm planning on making the Sumptuous Salad by Rouge The Bat, even though, she is not my favorite character; but overall, I give this cookbook a 10/10!

I'm glad that you took my suggestion to heart! Ian Flynn is a fantastic author, so I knew right away that the cookbook would be good when I found out that he was involved.

My kids were Sonic players from the time they could hold a controller. I might have to get them each one! Everything looked amazing, but that chili looked spectacular!

The Official Cookbook of Sonic the Hedgehog? I didn't expect that. I love Sonic the Hedgehog. I'm a fan since I was a kid. I remember when I first time saw on TV Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. At first I though Sonic and Shadow are wolves, Knuckles is a dog and Rouge is a cat. Only I quested correctly Tails. I'm from Poland and back in time my english wasn't very good.

The best part is some of the dishes are named after sonic songs

My mouth was watering when you were making the chili... Fun fact, these foods always taste better when cooked on one day, left to cool, and then heated up to serve the next day or so. When you heat it up, add a square or so of dark chocolate, really brings out the flavor.

I was today years old to know a sonic cook book exist

That was certainly some labor-intensive chili with all the roasting, rehydrating, blending, etc but the finished product looks really impressive. The donuts really look great too. Honestly the only thing that doesn't jive super well with me is the blue sauce, but mostly because I'm not a huge horseradish guy. Even so, this seems like a quality little cookbook even if you aren't that into Sonic. Another great video, bud.

I think one of the cooler things about this cookbook is that some characters you wouldn't expect them to include, like Tangle, Whisper, and Marine, get a few recipes in it!

Sonic's favorite chili having coffee in it explains so much.

My favorite recipe from this (that I've tried so far) is "Eat Red Spheres". However, all of the recipes I've tried are absolutely delicious!

The best part of the book is that they included evil cookies from Boom.

I really hope the old Sonic Movie design doesn't become the new "remember the time a princess kissed him?"

I was literally just looking at this book to order and decided to see if you covered it yet. 😁. Can't wait to watch the video now

Honestly this is a perfect game cookbook. While I love recreating in-game food, this menu really makes you remember Sonic fondly and that's amazing. Love the video, hopefully one day I can get the book too!

in at least some of the Sonic Cartoons, Sonic's favorite food is known to be Chili Dogs, so there was some instance of food tie-ins to the franchise, but not enough that i thought could be made into a Cookbook. guess i was wrong. *Sonic styled shrug*

I think the picture of Movie Sonic still looks very funny. Sonic is not a game character I combine with food. If Crash Bandicoot had one, it would probably be a recipe for a spinning apple xD

I can believe the first desigen of Movie Sonic being based of the ice cream, I mean how else can you explain THAT?😂 And looks like an other book I'll have to add to my poor, overflowing bookcase. 😅

Personally I'm a huge Sonic fan...but I gotta leave the beans and coffee out of the chili. Reason? I'm a strictly No Bean Chili kinda guy, and coffee and me do NOT get along at all especially all the caffeine that comes in it since I have a low caffeine diet. Otherwise the chili sounds good and I'll be making it sometime (I preordered the book a month before it came out so I already have it). Also the "Seven Rings in Hand"? The name comes from the iconic song from the game "Sonic and the Secret Rings" where "Seven Rings in Hand" is the main song...and like many songs in the recent Sonic Games is done by the band "Crush 40". The game itself was not exactly well liked due to it's clunky motion controls due to being on the Wii, though it is part of the "Sonic Storybook" series of games...the game is loosely based on the Arabian Nights story, the second game in the Storybook series is "Sonic and the Black Knight" which is loosely based on Arthurian legend...there are only two games in the series and both are on the Wii.

My mind after I heard the phone ring: “hello hello hello? Uhhh I want to record a message for you-” If you get it you get it

Unfortunately there's only one base chili recipe but it was actually very easy to make! Even if you skip some of the ingredients you can't find I think it'll still come out tasty
