The creepiest ad for this movie was a KZread ad that went meta by having Mia in her Deadite form chanined in the basement looking up through the half opened door telling the viewer not to skip the ad. The audio gets louder and faster and the camera get closer to Mia's Deadite face as you desperatly watch the seconds count down to the skip ad button. Its creepy as fuck and scared the shit out of me as I was watching an entirely unrelated video with earbuds in at around 2:00 a.m. half asleep. I will NEVER forget that damn ad!

I love Evil Dead 2013! Sadly the older ones doesn’t scare or engage me the same way. I tried hard to love them the same. They’re classics in their own rights, but today I’d hand the 2013 one to a friend if I wanted to introduce/impress them with good horror.
I can't believe some people didn't like this movie. Like I get that it wasn't as campy or overall entertaining as the first 3 movies but my god does it amp up the actual horror factor
I saw 2013 version just a day before evil dead rise screening & man! It just sets the right mood for its sequel. Totally loved cabin in the woods setting & atmosphere. In days where there are very rare good horror movies, this movie is a real good deal.

Cabin in the woods "setting" is not original. It's a cliche now but started thanks to movies like the original evil dead. The more you know. Obviously a younger person. You'll get there. A little more knowledge.
The opening of the movie sets the tone to show you how the evil got there, where it came from, and why it's been there.
As far as I know it’s not a remake, it’s more like a soft reboot and with the new movie all evil dead movies *not army of dead* can coexist in the same universe.

Pretty much yeah. It still gets called a remake a lot since there’s no returning characters and it was initially planned to be, but I’m glad it’s not and that it exists with the others
Theres not enough good horror movie review channels on youtube but yours is definitely one of them. Great content, will be watching frequently 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Jeez thank you so much! My girlfriend actually bought me that box for Christmas and can confirm: it makes a great gift
I did not know Diablo Cody had a hand in the script! How interesting
I was thoroughly impressed with this one. Was totally skeptical going in cuz of how much I love the first two but it delivered. I was somewhat underwhelmed with Rise. I liked it a lot but could have been better. Every film has been great.
In the original script, which I had acquired by a random person on the IMDB message boards, remember those, the "abomination" was actually closer to what we got in Evil Dead Rise. It was a hulking monstrosity made up of all her dead friends. I also remember reading more dialogue with the characters reflecting on their long-time friendship. There was also a scene where Mia is bitten by a possessed Coyote. Interesting stuff.
Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness did nothing for me, so the remake was a breath of fresh air for me. I've actually never seen the original.

The remake’s probably moved up to my top spot in the series. The original is definitely worth a watch my dude. I don’t think there are any bad Evil Dead movies honestly

Thanks Doc! Had a ton of production issues with this one so I really appreciate it
I've read that before Ash vs Evil Dead was cancelled they were in talks to bring Mia back. Ash going through the portal could've sent him to that time & the "Groovy" after credit scene would've made sense storywise. I love this film & it's gritty nature. Like Texas Chainsaw Massacre (both original and 2003 film) you walk away feeling dirty due to the amazing look and grittiness of the film. I do wish since Evil Dead Rise did well and that is being shown as the 3 book that we get a new film that brings it all together, including the TV characters. I think Bruce Campbell meant what he said about retiring the role but I also think it was from a place of hurt since Starz just gave up on it instead of giving them a proper finale. I think if Sam Raimi had a great idea that would bring it all together, he'd definitely return. And hell, it doesn't even have to be Ash centric, he can be a surprise mid act addition to the story with Mia and the Evil Dead Rise survivors meeting.
It would be cool and funny if they made a sequel to this installment called Evil Dead 2, and she goes back to the same cabin to kick heroin again with a different friend group. And maybe instead of getting sucked into a portal she crosses paths with the Blair Witch entity(?) on her way out of the forest. Three hours, two properties, one Forestverse is born.
Still one of my favorite horror movies. I enjoy the original 3 movies but this is my favorite. I found Evil Dead Rise struck a really good balance between the horror of this and the goofiness of the originals.
When I first watched this I did find the tone a bit jarring as it had gone all in on being very dark and grim, but I also remember thinking the last 15 minutes felt like they were knowing winking at the audience and swinging back towards a more tongue in cheek feel as it went absolutely bat sh#t OTT. I think this one really stands up well and if anything improves with rewatches. Good work with this channel, I subscribed recently and am very impressed with your content.

Evil Dead 2013 to me is the best Evil Dead movie. Everything from the practical effects, the set pieces, the cinematography, the pacing, Jane Levy's performance as an addict/deadite/badass , the finale of the film has ruined all horror movies for me cause i always end up feeling like their final acts aren't good enough comparatively. I can't praise this film enough

It’s absolutely fantastic
Still my favorite evil dead movie. I'm a huge fan of the series but this one slaps the hardest for me ❤️
2013 Evil Dead was one of the first horror movies, that as a kid, I genuinely thought “Should I be watching this”. As I was around 12-13 years old. Thank god my cousin rented it from a Redbox machine. As it was the film that pushed me deep into the horror genre. It was the first horror film that made me cringe and be disgusted by the violence. To this day, in 2024, I still haven’t seen a horror film that pushes these types of boundaries on gore. Not even Evil Dead Rise came close, as much as I love that entry as well. I love that Fede Alvarez has gone on to produce, write, and create some of the biggest horror hits since. As he is no directing the Alien: Romulus film.

Actually loved this movie when it came out I remember thinking this could be really good or really bad and I was amazed about how good it was good! 🎃
Different but good entry in the evil dead franchise
This movie was awesome Did not expect them to go that hard. Definitely worthy of the evil dead title.
I've only ever seen stock clips from the original film on various horror documentaries. Evil Dead 2 and Army Of Darkness did nothing for me; too campy for me. I love this reboot and Rise. 😁💯👍
The Deadite dialogue is a nod to the silliness of the previous movies.

Yeah which I do appreciate, but it just feels out of place when this whole movie is way more serious
I was hyped when the 2013 Evil Dead came out; based largely on the trailers. So I saw in the theaters, day one. Then...I found myself extremely disappointed. The movie starts off strong with the brutality and the over all setup. But about mid-way through, the story started to fall apart and by the end it made absolutely no sense and just....ended with Mia standing triumphant with the sun shining behind her....and then credits. 2/3s of the footage in the trailer weren't in the movie. The tongue cutting scene was cut down and blurred with bad digital effects. The story and mythos had so many plot holes, it was hard to accept. So I initially wrote this off and refused to own in on bluray. THEN....something happened. Some years later, a BBC horror network optioned the 2013 Evil Dead to air on its station. They paid for the rights and received a broadcast tape of the film. They aired it and all seemed well. Until they were inundated with mail, calls, and messages flooding the station about where they got the version they aired. Apparently, the version they aired was about 5 minutes longer. It included more story, changed the ending, added new scenes, and extended the gore and violence. 5 minutes may not seem like a lot, but it altered the entire story. Adding back the explanation of needing 5 souls, of needed to burn, bury or dismember corpses, it added in David explaining why he decided to bury Mia and make a defibrillator (in the theatrical, he just...buries her and makes a defib with no explanation. They don't even show him changing her clothes.) It also added in the "we're gonna get you" song. It also added in the scene where David becomes possessed before blowing up the cabin. In the theatrical release, David just walks in the cabin and it explodes; no explanation. Then the new ending makes sense that Mia didn't just "walk away" unscathed. So I tracked down a copy of this new Directors Cut and now consider the film genius and remains in my top 10 horror movies.

The unrated cut is absolutely the better watch. I didn’t quite feel it changed things that drastically, but those 5 minutes make a difference by helping smooth out the pacing and keep things more coherent. I’m really glad the new scream factory release includes that cut. I’ll probably never watch the theatrical again.

We all know that evil Mia was her drug addiction. That would be a horror nerd's PSA
I thought Evil Dead 2013 was by far the best of the bunch. It had everything that I wanted to see. And I loved it. With the exception of killing the Dog. Yes I love Dogs and that part pissed me of royally. And I know everybody loves Ash. I did too in the 1981 original. But Evil Dead 2 and Army of darkness I thought they sucked royally. But that's only because I don't like Horror and Comedy combined. I think you do one or you do the other. Because in my opinion the 2 don't mix. And as for Ash, whatever, I'd rather watch Mia any day. Love me some Jane Levy
This movie scared the actual shit out of me, when it came out and I am really desanitized to horrormovies. I never watched it again, because it made me really unconfterable and uneasy. It is just a genre of horror, I do not enjoy so much. At the beginning, I thought it would be some bullshit, cheesy, especially with the dialog. But then... Oh god.

For me this is easily the best evil dead. I just don’t do comedy horror…it never works for me. This dark dreadful tone is more my speed
I'm glad they moved on from protagonists. Like scream when the killers change, having the same protagonist can get kinda old, and the reasons for still having them get more and more wild.
I'm not a fan of Evil Dead 2 or Army of Darkness this is the best Evil Dead film out there
I love this movie, I hated evil dead rise
Evil Dead (2013) was a pretty decent attempt at reviving the franchise with lots of gore, but it feels like it takes itself too seriously. Plus the color grading is just kind of gross. The one liner at the end also sucks but that's a minor complaint.
