@@BloggingTheology May I ask you one simple question, Mr. Paul? Before Muhammad died in AD 632, he got the complete revelation of Quran, right? He was illiterate. Still he ensured that the Quran verses were recorded with the help of his companions (sahabis). Those ayaths were recorded on plain stones, camel bones, animal skin and palm tree leaves according to Islamic history! That was the very FIRST QURAN! THE ORIGINAL QURAN! THE REFERENCE QURAN WHICH SHOULD LAST FOREVER! THE VERY QURAN ALLAH PROMISED TO PRESERVE AND PROTECT FOREVER! NOW THE QUESTION IS: WHERE IS THAT ORIGINAL REFERENCE QURAN AS ON TODAY? WHERE IS THAT QURAN PROTECTED AND PRESERVED BY ALLAH HIMSELF AS ON TODAY? IF IT EXISTS TODAY , YES IT IS A MIRACLE AS MUSLIMS CLAIM! IF NOT, ISLAM SIMPLY COLLAPSES! You agree, Paul? However what is the real truth? 1. Most probably that Original Reference Quran recorded by the Islamic prophet was included in the Quran portions destroyed by fire on orders of Caliph Uthman. If so that Original Reference Quran is lost forever! 2. What about the present Quran available with us? a. First post Islamic prophet Quran was made after his death in AD 632. Caliph Abu Bakr was forced to compile the first post Islamic prophet Quran because of sudden death of many Quran memorizers in the subsequent wars. Did Allah or prophet commanded him to do the compilation of Quran? No, never! In fact Allah himself promised to preserve and protect his Quran forever! However sudden loss of so many Quran memorizers forced Caliph Abu Bakr to take his own decision, without seeking advice from Allah or Muhammad! That is how the Abu Bar Quran came into existence! Most Muslims will get shocked that this First Quran had no involvement of Allah or prophet! b. Thus Abu Bakr appointed a young man, Zyad Ibn Tabith, who was previously the scribe of the Islamic prophet before his death. Zyad Ibn Tabith was obviously reluctant to undertake the job, which was not commanded by Allah or prophet. However he had no other choice, but to obey the orders of the king. c. Why did Caliph Abu Baker ordered the compilation of Quran, which was not commanded by Allah or prophet when Allah himself promised to protect his Quran? Means, Abu Baker had no faith in Allah's words? And he compiled a Quran with the help of above Zyed Ibn Tabit. Obviously an unauthorized Quran! However even this unauthorized Quran was not complete! One ayath was missing in it for so many years! No one could identify or realize or point out the grave mistake! Finally Zyed Ibn Tabit while revising the Abu Baker Quran, on orders of Caliph Uthman, remembered about the grave mistake and added the ayath in the Revised Uthman's Quran! And Caliph Uthman ordered the destruction of all other Quran materials!!! d. Even the Revised Uthman's Quran had its own problems. Two solid Surahs were missing in it and also one ayath on stoning of adulterous women and verse of suckling the breast by adult men! e. Abdullah ibn Masʽood was one of the four most prominent Quran teachers appointed by Islamic prophet. He totally disapproved the Revised Uthman's Quran too! Then, what credibility Revised Uthman's Quran got ? f. Now Muslims use many different ARABIC QURANS! See the links below please. 1. @@ZakirHussain-oz9su It does no one any good to be born a muslim. For as Jesus said, unless one is BORN AGAIN (spiritually regenerated), one cannot see the kingdom of God. Flesh cannot produce Spirit, no matter how hard it tries.. Animals, plants, and bacteria also reproduce according to their kind. How are muslims unique in this regard? What's this muslim obsession with 'strength'? What is wrong with being 'weak'? When people abandon their pretense to be 'big shots', to 'call the shots' as it were, God is able to use them as instruments in displaying His strength. As Jesus said, 'the meek will inherit the earth'. The apostle James quotes, 'God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble.'

Worship the one God and do not attribute partners to him. Even Jesus and his deciples preached this. The next major quran translation should go into depth on the Arabic precision and eloquence you can't get from a mere translation of a ayat's semantic dimension into the very ambiguous English language. We need to highlight the linguistic miracle of the Qur'anic Arabic semantically, rhetorically, grammatically, and morphemically. It is not impossible to explain this in English if you're willing to take the time and possibly have a translation which is several times bigger than the pages with the translation itself. A unsuspecting reader doesn't need to know arabic to be shown, for instance, the usage of the root word صرف in meaning "way of escape [from falling into hell]" in surah al-kahf [18:53] and also used by Allah in a different shade of meaning in some of the following ayah #54 in the form صرّفنا meaning "We have explained". Interestingly, this root word is not used in ayah 58 and in its stead Allah uses "مَوئِلًا" to also mean "way of escape". We need translations out there to point out these fundamental linguistic nuances and precisions since THIS stuff is the real miracle of The Qur'an. This stuff is what made the Quran penetrate the hearts of the Arabs. .. The ayah where مصرفا is used to mean "way of escape": Al-Kahf 18:53 وَرَءَا ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ ٱلنَّارَ فَظَنُّوٓا۟ أَنَّهُم مُّوَاقِعُوهَا وَلَمْ يَجِدُوا۟ عَنْهَا مَصْرِفًا English - Sahih International And the criminals will see the Fire and will be certain that they are to fall therein. And they will not find from it a way elsewhere. ... Where صرّفنا is used to mean "We diversified/explained" Al-Kahf 18:54 وَلَقَدْ صَرَّفْنَا فِى هَٰذَا ٱلْقُرْءَانِ لِلنَّاسِ مِن كُلِّ مَثَلٍۚ وَكَانَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ أَكْثَرَ شَىْءٍ جَدَلًا English - Sahih International And We have certainly diversified in this Quran for the people from every [kind of] example; but man has ever been, most of anything, [prone to] dispute. Where "موئلا" is used for meaning "way of escape" like in the first quoted ayah but uses a different word: Al-Kahf 18:58 وَرَبُّكَ ٱلْغَفُورُ ذُو ٱلرَّحْمَةِۖ لَوْ يُؤَاخِذُهُم بِمَا كَسَبُوا۟ لَعَجَّلَ لَهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابَۚ بَل لَّهُم مَّوْعِدٌ لَّن يَجِدُوا۟ مِن دُونِهِۦ مَوْئِلًا English - Sahih International And your Lord is the Forgiving, the possessor of mercy. If He were to impose blame upon them for what they earned, He would have hastened for them the punishment. Rather, for them is an appointment from which they will never find an escape. ... We must show the world these subtle semantic connections, shifts, and differences! This is of utmost importance

I feel like Nouman Ali Khan would do amazing job at that if he worked on a translation. *For Example:* When Allah kicks Satan out of paradise, Satan says to Allah: "…فبما أغوويتني” which is translated as “Because You left me to go astray…” and then Satan makes a promise to mislead the people. But the word "غوا" from “أغوويتني” means that the person was tempted/seduced/enticed into doing something wrong. So it adds another dimension: Satan is saying that Allah set him up to fail. He’s basically accusing Allah of entrapment. He’s implicitly saying: “You knew this was gonna happen all along - yet You allowed everything to be setup in a way that would make me commit the sin.” Does that ring a bell? It’s because it sounds like Atheist logic. And it’s amazing how Allah captures the entire attitude in just three Arabic words.

Notable among those 'other gods' is the abstract theory which muhammad concocted to replace the God of Israel-----------as though that were actually possible. Yes, Ishmael the bastard son persecuted Isaac the legitimate son, and not much has changed since.

One of my favorite testaments to the miraculous nature of the Qur'an, are the numbers involved in Surah 57, Al-Hadid, or The Iron. The abjad value (a numerical correspondence to the alphabet of ancient development that is consistent across several Semitic languages) of Al-Hadid or ALHDYD is 1+30+8+4+10+4... which equals, 57. The abjad value of HDYD without the definite article is 8+4+10+4... which equals 26. What is the atomic number of Iron? Allahu akbar it's 26. Google "atomic mass of 57," and what pops up, is an isotope of iron. Look up "isotopes of iron" on Wikipedia, and look for the stable isotopes, and you will find there are 3, and 57 is *smack in the middle,* the only isotope with a 1/2- spin and parity, while Iron-56 and Iron-58 have 0+ spin. Any layman will be able inshallah to behold that Iron was given a special place in Allah's creation. There is also Surah An-Nahl, the structure of which has a motif of the numbers 16 and 32 unlike any other Surah, 16 being the number of Chromosomes in a male bee, a female having 32. I kindly invite anyone to look it up because this one is harder to pick apart in brief. There are many numerical wonders said to exist in the Qur'an, but these are just two that I recall and impress me as undeniable signs from the Creator (while some other examples cited by others may indeed be overreaching) that He has honored the believers with the truth.

You should have more doubts. Expand those doubts until you discover Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. After that you will have no good reason to doubt, because He is not just a messenger. He is the MESSAGE itself. Paul betrayed Christ and is now trying desperately to justify himself.. But I don't believe that he really became a Christian. His own account leads me to believe that he was searching for 'religious experiences'. Who knows how this adventure will turn out?

About the "beating of the wife" part, it just so happens that I replied to an atheist's video earlier today, addressing his criticism of this verse, so when Paul mentioned 4:34, I immediately knew what the question was going to be about. So here's my own response to an atheist basically claiming that Islam allows men to beat women, willy nilly, and he cited no sources, but showed some clips of angry beards talking about smacking women. Qur'an 4:34 The men are the protectors of the women, because Allah has bestowed some of them over others, and because they spend from their wealth. So the righteous women are obedient; in secret, guarding that which Allah orders them to safeguard. And those from whom you fear their ill-conduct, then advise them, and forsake them in the bed, and [then] strike them. Then if they obey you not, seek a way against them. Indeed, Allah is Most High, Most Great. For starters, it opens with claiming that men have an obligation to protect their women. This includes wives, daughters, mothers, etc. It then says that righteous women are obedient, and the word "qanitan" has the meaning of being devout, being humble, being loyal, being obedient. The same noun is also applied to men in other verses. The description here refers to women who are obedient to Allah. So when nobody's around to check on a woman, and they're alone in situations where there could arise some kind of problem, then the righteous women guard that which Allah commands women to guard, and they are loyal to their husbands, in secret. So not just when the husband is present. If another man approaches a woman when she's at the market place or something, and if this man starts flirting with her, or tries something with her, then the Muslima will safeguard her own self against that, and against him, and she will not say or do anything that her husband wouldn't appreciate, or which would dishonor him. Here are some instances of this same word being used in the Qur'an, and you can check each one (and please do), and you'll see that in every instance, "qanitan" refers to devout obedience to The Creator: 3:43, 33:31, 2:116, 2:238, 3:17, 16:120, 30:26, 33:35, 39:9, 66:12, 4:34, 33:35, and 66:5. That's not to say that a husband shouldn't listen to his wife, or v.v., but naturally, you are not obligated to simply do whatever your spous demands, especially when they're being unreasonable, or if they ask you to do something that goes beyond the religious parameters. When it says, further on, "if they [still] disobey you", then here is included the wife's duty to obey her husband, and he has a right to ask her to dress more modestly, for instance, or not to be alone with another man, or to refrain from shaking hands with men, or whatever it is that is causing an issue between the two of them. And there are many instances and examples from the prophetic tradition and from the historical literature that one can quote to show that wives didn't just always blindly obey their husbands in all regards, no questions asked. Your wife is not your personal slave, but you have rights over her just as she has rights over you. The obedience mentioned in 4:34:16, imo, specifically pertains to her obeying Allah's command to safeguard herself, and then in 4:34:31 it refers to her duties towards her husband, and honoring his wishes (assuming he's in the right). Then 4:34 says that if a husband suspects ill-conduct from his wife, and if he fears disloyalty, then they should sit down and talk about it. So communication is the first method of handling marital issues. If they themselves can't work it out, and before they entertain the option to divorce, then read the next verse. Qur'an 4:35 And if you fear a dissension between the two of them, then send an arbitrator from his family and an arbitrator from her family. If they both wish reconciliation, Allah will cause reconciliation between both of them. Indeed, Allah is All-Knower, All-Aware. If talking doesn't work, then the husband shouldn't share the bed with her. Obviously, when there's a conflict between them, sleeping with her might cause additional problems. A temporary disconnect may give them both some time to reflect, and hopefully, they'll both come around. If this doesn't work, then the verse says "and [finally] strike her". In Arabic "wa-id'ribuhunna", from "daraba" requires some interpretation. Qur'an 14:24 Do you not see how Allah sets forth the example.. In Arabic, this reads "kayfa daraba l-lahu mathalan", and the literal translation is "how Allah strikes the example", and the same word is used as in 4:34. Here, it means "strike", but is interpreted to mean "set forth" or "give". It doesn't mean "to hand you something tangible", but "to give an analogy" or "to give advice", etc. So the word doesn't necessarily mean "to hit something". Qur'an 4:94 O you who believe! When you go forth in the way of Allah.. In Arabic, it says "idha darabtum", meaning "when you go out [into the world]". This means that they're leaving a place, and they travel abroad. Qur'an 3:156 ..when they traveled in the Earth Again, "darabu fi l-ardi" means "to travel the world". Qur'an 2:61 And humiliation and misery were struck on them, and they drew on themselves the Wrath of Allah.. In Arabic this reads "waduribat l-dhilatu wal-maskanatu", meaning "and afflicted them humiliation and poverty". Qur'an 18:11 So We cast a number of years over their ears in the cave.. "fadarabna 'ala adhanihim" means "We cast over their ears", and it doesn't mean that God hit them over the head or something, even though the literal meaning includes "hitting". That suffices. There are more possible meanings and applications. What this shows is that the word used in 4:34:29 (surah, ayah, word) could simply be instructing the husband to leave the house for a while, which does seem like a natural progression of the sequence. That's not to totally negate physical discipline, because "strike" is one of the meanings of the word, but as Dr. Khattab mentioned; we have to look at other prophetic statements. I don't think that in light of those, one can argue that Islam allows for husbands to beat their wives. The verse here pertains to fearing disloyalty and ill-conduct in terms of her not guarding her own, and her husband's honor. It doesn't mean that you can strike her for messing up your dinner, or forgetting to wash the clothes, etc. There must be a reason that is causing the man stress in this regard, they must communicate, and then there's abstinence, and finally discipline. Then after that, they can/should divorce if they want to. I'll leave you with some quotes from Muhammad(saw). Narrated Mu'awiyah al-Qushayri: "I went to the Apostle of Allah and asked him: What do you say about our wives? He replied: Give them food what you have for yourself, and clothe them by which you clothe yourself, and do not beat them, and do not revile them." (Sunan Abu-Dawud, Book 11, Kitab Al-Nikah, Number 2139) Narrated Mu'awiyah ibn Haydah: "I said: Apostle of Allah, how should we approach our wives and how should we leave them? He replied: Approach your garden when or how you will, give her food when you take food, clothe when you clothe yourself, do not revile her face, and do not beat her." (Sunan Abu-Dawud, Book 11, Kitab Al-Nikah, Number 2138) Narrated Abu Huraira: "Allah's Apostle said, 'The strong is not the one who overcomes the people by his strength, but the strong is the one who controls himself while in anger." Fascinating show. I first saw him speak in Let the Quran speak/Canadian show. EFDawah was distributing Clear Quran for free in their Dawah show attendees if they were interested. Very dedicated gentleman and scholar. Cultured man. Not the polemics style. Plain clean clear presentation. His famous lines "so on and so forth". Drawing from previous revelation is not disputed. Is Sidney H Griffith's The Bible in Arabic (Princeton 2013) mentioned in his references? Aramaic (Jesus') and Arabic (Muhammad's) were probably sister languages. Left to the man/the reader to sort out the texts? Like The Jerome Biblical Commentary for the 21st Century (t&tclark 2022), perhaps The Mustafa Quranic Commentary for the 21st Century to follow on from his works and the famous The Study Quran (HarperOne 2017).

Your books should also be placed in the religion section of all public libraries in the USA. People generally hold views about the Quran and Islam based on what they hear from Islamophobes, haters and enemy of Islam . And then make comments or show reaction based not on knowledge, they assume the false propaganda against Islam from the not so legitimate sources to be true. Your books will spread the accurate knowledge and eliminate doubts, Islamophobia and hate, and promote peace and harmony.

Ma Shaa Allah Dr. Mustafa has done a great job in his attempt to bring the words of the Quran more closer to it's Arabic meaning. I'm also glad that he's using the word God for Allah in his translation. However, it should not be the word God for the English audience Quran and Allah for the Muslim one as he said. Since some Muslims and non-Muslims still don't understand that Allah means God, it's better to show it as God(Allah) in both "Clear Qurans". We should also thank and appreciate the efforts of our earlier translators despite their avoidance of the English word God as Allah in their translations.

Arabic is such a beauty! Quoran introduced a new form of literature alongside poems "Chieer" and normal writing "Natr" that's why the challenge of coming with something similar to the Quran is very hard! it is not just about eloquence it is about bringing a new form of communication other than these 3

Assalamu alaikum brother Paul. Thank you for this most wonderful discussion on the miracle which is the Quran. Your question to Dr. Khattab on surah 4, verse 34 was addressed credibly and comprehensively but if I may add my ten cents worth: the word “daraba” has several meanings as used in the Quran. Moses is commanded to “daraba” the sea (part the sea) and is usually translated as ‘strike the sea” to allow the Israelites to escape from bondage in Egypt. But it means to “Separate”the sea or “part” the sea. Verse 34 lays down 3 steps: admonish them, refuse to share their beds, and lastly “wadribuhun”. If “daraba” here is translated as “separate” or “part” from them, and we look at the meaning of the next verse 35: If you fear a breach between them twain, appoint (two) arbiters, one from his family and the other from hers; if they wish for peace, Allah will cause their reconciliation…..” then, as Dr Khattab said, verse 34 is not taken out of context and is certainly not a stand-alone verse. It’s followed by a divorce scenario and how to address it. Also, it’s well to remember that the prophet, peace be upon him, said that the best among you is one who is good to his wife.

Salam Paul, thanks for this nice guest and talk. I've started reading a book on the Quran biography. Contains informations but I don't like it much, for instance it spells Quran with a K which generally is a good indicator that things won't be very satisfying.
