Btw, Fezzini is the same actor who plays the Grand Nagus on Ds9! Hollywood wants to make a film like this but cant capture that lightning in a bottle again. Also the guy who plays humperdink was on ds9 he was the other gambler dude who brought those dome devices and competed with quark.

The Grandfather isn't Wesley. The Grandfather told his grandson that whenever Wesley told Buttercup "as you wish" he was really saying, "I love you," and that's what the grandfather was actually telling his grandson at the end.

The movie was based on a book, " The Princess Bride ". The author couldn't think what to title it. One of his daughters said it's about a princess ,his other daughter said it's about a bride. So the title was made. The author of it was on set during filming and when the fire spirt first happened in the fire swamp he accidentally screamed. They had to film that small bit over. Mandy Patinkin and Cary Elwes trained for the sword fighting scene. The only stunt doubles were when they did the acrobatic part. The rest was done by the actors.

This is the anti-fairy tale: Prince Charming is the villain, the pirate is the hero, the giant is gentle, and the cathartic revenge arc is given to a henchmen who was dispatched in the first fight scene.

Thing about the music - its *very* simplistic, oddly so. This is because its _intended_ to sound like the old-school video-game music from the opening...ie the film is from Savage's (the kid) perspective and _that's_ what he would hear as he imagined the story. And also Wallace Shawn (Inconceivable!) is the Grand Nagus in DS9.

Glad most new viewers on YT end up loving this film on most first watches. It's a gem, lightning in a bottle that is both being dry, and satirical while also delivering legitimate deep emotional moments and fantasy based action sequences as would be in a less tongue in cheek adventure. A film that is also a fantasy romance adventure that needs WAY more love than something iconic in the culture like The Princess Bride is the Richard Donner (Superman/Goonies/Lethal Weapon) directed LADYHAWKE. Swords, sorcery, knights, maidens and Michelle Pfeiffer and Matthew Broderick too boot! It's an ACTUAL cult movie, which means it's unlikely to win a poll but believe me it's a fun fantasy film from the 80's.

One of the funniest things in my life came about because of this movie (Which I had the honor of seeing opening night.)- Back in 1993 a Buddy of mine was getting married and he wanted me to be his Best Man. When the time came to give my speech, I USED 'The Impressive Clergyman's' Voice and dialogue to open it up. The People who were familiar with the film (Which Included the Bride & Groom, otherwise I would never have used it) burst out into hysterical laughter. It was a great moment. But it gets better. In February 1997, I was engaged to the Best Friend of a Good Female friend of mine who was getting married. My Fiancee' was to give her Maid of Honor Speech, and without ever having told anyone, without US ever discussing it, she used the EXACT SAME speech. Oh, Lordy. I laughed so hard I nearly passed out. Sadly, by November of 1997, our relationship crumbled in a catastrophically Wagnerian manner. My heart was smashed and it took years to recover.

Vizzini is played by Wallace Shawn, who also plays Grand Negus Zek on DS9. Miracle Max is played by Billy Crystal who was of course quite young and made up to look old. The MLT (Mutton Lettuce and Tomato) sandwich was ad-libbed by Chrystal along with other of his lines. Turns out that the only injury on the set was in the Miracle Max scene, where Rob Reiner strained a ligament in his rib cage, trying not to laugh in the middle of a take!

A hearty recommendation to find/obtain a copy of "As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of 'The Princess Bride' " by Cary Elwes, the actor who portrays Westley and The Man in Black. Lots of behind-the-scenes stories of fun, dedication, friendships, and movie-making. The idea was dropped shortly thereafter.

If you like great swordfights and wonderful comedy, try The Three Musketeers (1973, released in America 1974) and The Four Musketeers (1974, released in America 1975). These were originally intended to be a single movie, but there was so much material that the filmmakers simply decided to cut the movie into two halves and release them as separate movies. Nevertheless, the two films need to be seen together and appreciated as a single work of art; just think of the break between the two as an intermission, which I'm sure there would have been if the two parts had been released together as one movie as originally intended. There are some serious dramatic sections, which are important and very well done, but comedy predominates. It's impossible to recommend this pair highly enough.

According to Rob Reiner, the only stunt performed by Elwes' stunt double was one flip during the "Chatty Duelists" scene. Historical Fact: There really was a "Dread Pirate Roberts" in real life. His name was Bartholomew Roberts, also known as Black Bart, who operated in the Caribbean in the early 18th century. He is reckoned by many to have been the most successful pirate of all time. Gentle Giant Fact: Despite his character Fezzik's almost-superhuman strength, André René Roussimoff's back problems at the time prevented him from actually lifting anything heavy. Robin Wright had to be attached to wires in the scene where Buttercup jumps from the castle window into Fezzik's arms because he couldn't support her himself.

I wouldn't call them friends or random with climbing the rope. It was honor pure and simple. No dirty trick or move, just settle things pure skill and respect their opponent. Literally everyone makes that covid mask joke, I don't think I've seen a single reactor not pluck that low hanging fruit ever since the pandemic hit.

Do The Magnificent Seven 1960 release, not the remake.

If you wish to watch the ORIGINAL, watch "7 Samurai." Then the 1960 release of "The Magnificent Seven," and then even the 2016 remake of the same title.

The best movie of all time? I don't think so but it's a 80's classic
