Mandy Patinkin's father died by cancer when Mandy was young. He said that when he did the scene of killing Count Rougen it felt like he finally got his revenge on the cancer. The line that he says is famous but there are people in their 30s, even younger that don't know this is the movie that line came from. I've loved this movie since it came out in the 80s when I was a kid.

So, I got to attend a special screening of the movie that was followed up by an interview with Cary Elwes back in April. I almost died from being overjoyed! It was so cool getting to experience the film with other fans as we all quoted and cheered throughout, and then getting to laugh and listen to Cary’s stories and anecdotes was just absolutely surreal. I couldn’t stop smiling and laughing. ❤

Important to remember it's being read to the grandson. So 'Westley in disguise' covers a lot more options than a mask and bandana. We know, cos we can see, but the grandson only has Colombo's description from the book to work with. So yes, it's a narration, of an adaptation by the author of the original story. And i think to some extent the Grandfather adapts on the fly to his grandson's reaction and input, which adds another layer of variation.

Oh and final bit? That fencing scene is universally praised - both Cary and Mandy worked their asses off on it(8 to 10 hours a day over months, and yes with both hands), it was choreographed by Bob Anderson (Star Wars, Highlander, Zorro, Lord of the Rings..) and the skill and accuracy displayed is truly top notch.

It's a common brag in fencing to be ambidextrous. This is because Right-handed only fencers are not accustomed or particularly good at fencing south paws. Lefties are rare in the fencing world and that gives them a massive advantage. So, while being ambidextrous is desirable in fencing, someone will always have their dominant hand that they are best with.

So many famous folks in this. Robin Wright played General Antiope in Wonder Woman, among other roles. Billy Crystal (Miracle Max) was in all kinds of stuff through the 90’s and Carol Kane (Max’s wife) is a great character actor who was on Gotham for years as Penguin’s mother. Chris Sarandon (King) was the star of the original Fright Night.

That was my favorite part of this movie Inigo, Fezzik, and Wesley becoming fast friends that team up together. The physical comedy with Wesley slowly regaining control of his limbs is comedy gold. Inigo's fight with Wesley at the beginning and with the six fingered man was awesome, his line "I want my father back you son-of-bitch" was great. The movie leans into being campy and fun but it does have great moments of dialog that surprise you.

For another offbeat and rather naughty comedy, check out "A Fish Called Wanda" (1988), starring Jamie Lee Curtis, Kevin Kline, and John Cleese and Michael Palin (from Monty Python). Kline won Best Supporting Actor for his character, Otto. It's not for the thin-skinned. It has some fairly "offensive" comedy compared to today's standards. It's a classic farcical story!
