My family came from Sicily and settled in the North End of Boston in 1901. They were fisherman, grocery business and butcher shop. Boston,,, my hometown,,,, The North End, my favorite hangout. When i was little we used to go to Modern Pastry to buy dozens and dozens cannolli for Easter.,, that was the 1960's,,It was Not Fancy back then,, but they had the Best Cannolli, we'd go home with stacks of pastry boxes... I worked at MGH Hospital so we'd walk over after work and get a espresso,, or cappachino,,, i MISS,,,, Cafe' Pompei,,,,sigh!,, you Cannot imagine!,,, im italian-americn (my people are from Naples),,,, When they have the St. Anthony's Festival,, you drive by even on the highway above and the air is FILLED!!! with the smell of the Sausage, pepper and onion cooking. The generations of people there will keep it going. The Food lol will keep it going. You can eat simple or eat 'fancy' but it is always good and authentic,, Salumeria Italiano is incredible!... esp. the cheeses, the olives, and of course the meats. It's impossible to describe the atmosphere though,,,, the parking,, lol,, forget about it... Park at govt. ctr. garage and walk over,,, i parked my car there one day and we went into Cafe' Pompei for coffee and pastry,,, they almost towed my car WITH The dog in it,,, OMG!,,, i went running out and saved the car and MY GOODNESS, my jack russell! So many great times,,, the coffee is Always good,,,,, North End has a Loooong History,, i think it's the best little Italy,,

Ok, the North End is one of my favorite parts of Boston. Is it as heavily Italian as it used to be? No. Is it more touristy than it used to be? Yes. BUT, it is still very much worth the visit, and like most of Boston, it is all walkable. Modern Pastry is certainly good, but Mike’s and Bova’s are also very good. Unlikely you will go wrong in any case. The food is always good. I have my favorites, but they are all very good. Finally, if you can go during St.Anthony’s Festival, (August) then that is very good. Just fun with some music and the church activities. Nothing like in the old days, BUT still a good time. Go! It’s a small neighborhood. You won’t get lost. 😊

Great video with excellent photography and music. Sal sang on AGT season 11, the year Grace Vanderwaal won. He's a terrific host. I grew up in Boston and haven't been back in years, but if I did, I would head straight for these restaurants. I love hearing how everyone still talks the same. Really nostalgic, and with such authenticity in manners and love of the food culture. You know this food rocks!

So good to see Sal Valentinetti again! This KZread channel of Growing Up Italian is amazing! The video footage was eye appealing and made my mouth water; from aerial footage to the table, I vicariously taste every bite of the salumeria sanguicio, the fresh ricotta lobster tail, and steaming hot espresso! Looks like a good clean neighborhood; As Mr Vaccaro said: every local eatery serves variations of the same recipes. How do people make you feel! Cannot wait to visit Boston North End! And, please let us know when Sal the Voice Valentinetti performs in the future! Buona fortuna a voi tutti from the Philadelphia suburbs! 🥊🗽🛩🚲🚙😁🍅🌶🥖☕🥐🎭⚽🔔🎥🎬📚🎇

Not sure how I squeezed the mixer through there in the middle of the day. I did remember to bring snacks, because with NO snacks the smells of the food there can drive a person nuts ! Nice video.
