Yes the frontier is better than the Tacoma in many ways. Fully boxed half ton frame, rear disc brakes, dana 44 rear end, spicer transfer case, a powerful VQ 4.0 , lower crawl ratio , better seating position to name a few things.

I bought a 2000 Nissan Frontier XE for under $3k, 140K miles. Cleaned it up, new tires and shocks, runs perfect now! Feel like I could drive it for years and years. Nice to have a small pickup, for all the things you need a pickup for.

I just picked up a 99. 1 owner 4 cylinder auto with 56k on it. SIMPLE. Bench seat, crank windows, cold air, and tape deck. The only thing I can compare to is an 07 Ranger. Reliable as can be. Cheap interior. Driver bucket seat broke down at 100k.

I love these old-school compact trucks. They not only look better, but they're more utilitarian than anything produced today. Today's trucks are more passenger vehicles, which in itself isn't a bad thing. But to me, trucks are utility first, passenger next.

Jason, couldn’t agree w you more. I own a 1999 Frontier that has been an awesome truck. It’s very basic, but everything works! It was affordable…can’t imagine paying close to 30,000 for a truck. After they had the strawberry milk shake problems I said I’m glad I have one that was built like a brick shit house!

@@litespeedgaJust bought a 99. One owner, 4 cylinder, auto . 56k on it. With the research I've done the things will run for A LONG TIME. Love the bench seat. Only thing I can compare to is a 4 cylinder 07 Ranger. Reliable truck but cheap interior. The driver bucket seat was broken down at 100k. I cannot see dishing over the $ for a used Tacoma, or a new truck! Replaced an 11 Silverado. Gas guzzler. 200k.

The D21 hardbody drives great when the frame isn't bent usty\trashed. I have 1991 std no option ka24e 5 speed hardbody With 216k owned for 6 years driving it is very similar to the 2001 nissan frontier 4cyl 5 speed std power steering only 156k i owned for 2 years. Both of the pickups are great. The pre-odd2 ka24e hardbody trucks are simply an easier vehicle to work on yourself they have less parts to go bad. The 1st gen frontier is basically a facelift obd2 hardbody. At the end of the day i still have my hardbody. The lower mile frontier cost more to run. I love the look of the hardbody and found that it being lighter made it funnier to drive in stock form. Regardless of what you want both trucks fantastic you cant find a new truck that fits the bill quite like a good old mini truck regardless of the company's nissan toyota ford chevy.... Need a truck but don't need to tow the world get a mini truck....find the best one for the lest amount possible and enjoy the thing.

A hard body is a grand daddy. And the headlights are bad because they're old. I guarantee if you got everything brand new it would be a lot better. That in mind Nissan hates the d21 It was too well built. The whole truck was metal. Because of that it won't die. Nissan has to rebuild parts because People like it so much because it's it's so useful. And it won't die hence why they're frontier selves aren't selling as well as ensure that and they haven't redesigned the frontier.

people today complain about cars having crappy halogen headlights. when I started driving halogen headlights were a premium feature and much better than the rest. thirty years from now people will talk about how crappy LED headlights were

I like both the Hardbody and Frontier, but I'd go with the Frontier just because it's a little more modern. I like the safety features!

I remember when the Toyota Tacoma was introduced and then the Nissan Frontier. I thought it was an improvement over the Nissan Hardbody it replaced. At the time, I also found the Frontier better looking than the Tacoma.

@@VehicleHunter Overall, I like the looks of the Hardbody Nissan. But I find the front end of the first Nissan Frontier more attractive. Unfortunately, I've never driven either truck. So I don't know what either are like to drive. But I like both trucks.

Do you know if they both share the same steering system? Like if I were to change the steering wheel on the hardbody, would it be the same thing on the frontier ?

A little more modern and refined, the Frontier. Safer as well. Most modern Nissans are trash cars, but the Frontier is a solid option in small trucks. I’d love a 2019 totally stripped with power nothing in it for under 15 grand.

@@VehicleHunter i thought your d21 was 93 and the frontier was 98? And d21 was a king cab where as frontier was single? They are pretty different vehicles though, and considering how little the hardbody changed from 87.5-97, it is essentially like comparing it to a vehicle 10 yrs newer (compared to the ‘97+ frontier). but I do agree that it’s a worthy and fair comparison. The d21/hardbody is definitely a more rough, raw, less refined ride and experience, but that is partly why I love mine so much. It’s just nice and light, and fun to drive. Good video tho, keep up the good work ! and continue with the hardbody & Nissan content!

@@stevjackss I remember those old Hardbodies. Sharp looking truck. When I was a young man a neighbor drove one for years! Landscaping business. I just picked up a 99 Frontier. 1 owner, auto, 4 cylinder with 56k on it. I can only compare to an 07 Ranger. Ranger was very reliable but the driver bucket seat broke down. This truck has a bench which is quite comfortable. So far I cannot complain. I refuse paying the Tacoma tax and cannot see the price of a new truck. So I gave her a whirl and am very satisfied thusfar.
