I’m in an identical situation, comparable age. Bought a MPC Live recently. The machine has a challenging learning curve. Bought the ‘MPC Bible’ and that is of great help. The MPC adds a nice new dimension for me making music. Enjoy!

This segment help push me over into getting MPC One to use as a sequencer/DAW. I'm primarily a keyboard player too. Thanks for shedding light on an option.

You can literally fire up the MPC load up a kit and make something in under 5 mins then go from there.

I'm new to synthesizers and music production (including music), in general. I wanted a workstation. Everyone was adamant the Korg Kronos was the most powerful workstation in the market. I purchased one and it sat in my room for a couple of months. I then purchased a Pioneer SP-16, all of sudden, I understood why a sequencer was important. Then, I purchased the Elektron RYTM MKII and Analog IV MKII and solidified the sequencer can break or make your work flow. Went back to the Kronos in an attempt to understand its sequencers. It has a non-intuitive, menu driven nightmare of workflow. Including its various sequencer modes (including Karma). However, now that I'm using the Kronos, in tandem, with the Akai Live II... I appreciate the power of the Kronos. Overall, Korg products can be so incredible powerful but their sequencers are not very user friendly. Waldorf has the Iridium which is incredibly complex. The workflow and user interface, on the Iridium, has this beautiful 7-inch screen that is graphically welcoming. It's also an intuitive UI and the sequencer on the Iridium is so incredibly to use. It's complex but I understand how to layer it's complexity. If and when Korg does release a more modern workstation (the Nautilus is a step back), I hope they modernize their UI similar to what Akai or Waldorf implements on their hardware. I will say the Akai Live II is the most complex but most intuitive sequencers on the market.

I´m a keyboard player too, and I grew up during the 80s and 90s making music with hardware sequencers and even when I love making music in Cubase because I love computers too, I feel that sometimes I need to unplug myself from the computer and just play with the keyboards, at least as an starting point, and later I would send everything to Cubase to use all its power to finish my tracks. I was looking at the MPC for a long time, but the only videos I can see are all related to people maken beats, or endless repeating loops and crazy jammings, and even when that´s cool and I like it, I love to be immersed in a crazy jam, the jamming part at least for me, is just the warm up, and after that, I need something like an old school sequencer and work in an structured kind of way, more in control of what I want, because at that point, I know exactly what I want. Your video helped me to see a different side of the MPC and now doesn't look like a powerful expensive beat boxing machine and can work for a different kind of artists too. Of course Akai's marketing campaign was always focused on beat boxing - live set - Dj and so on, but it seems that the machine can help a broader group or artist (this is like thinking that with a TB-303 you can make only acid, or the TR-909 works only for dance music :P). Something interesting is the option to connect everything using USB. All my synths have a USB midi connection so that's a big plus. I will be checking on more videos to see if this machine fits in my workflow. After watching your video I think it might.

Thanks for this video, It's interesting to see how you approach the MPC as an hardware sequencer. I'll look to your other videos on the subject to learn more.

This video put me over the top, to purchase an MPC One. I am a multi instrumentalist, one man band, kinda guy, who also plays keyboards in a Grateful Dead tribute band. I have always wanted to get into sampling, beat making, sequencing, but did not like the workflow of my Roland FA-08. Now, I have lots of gear I want to tie together, and control/sequence from one device (not a laptop). It's what I have been wanting, and all in one device, that has a touch interface, like iPad, and hardware knobs/buttons, for more tactile feel/ease of use, plus all the input/output options needed to get the job done, in one package. @@orlandomarinjr I copped mine in March for $500+ from Zzounds, advertised as blemished. When I looked it over, there was next to nothing and I mean NOTHING wrong with it. My memory is hazy but maybe there was a touch of glue on the side??? It still had the plastic screen protector on it and I haven't removed it to this day.

This video I'm 100% confirm with. I'm make music by and for myself and always hated the use of a daw on laptop or tablet. Brought the mpc one with the intention of getting a "instrument" and it fits exactly this requirement. The only sad point is the fact, that it needs 19 volt and cant be powered up with a powerbank. I would love to create pads in my freetime in my garden

Great video brother! I swear I HATE using my Kronos sequencer! I took the plunge and purchased an MPCX after never having even used an MPC before. It's one of the BEST investments I have ever made. No doubt it is a Beast of a machine. I can't believe I waited all these years to buy one!

You are so right. I've used the Korg sequencers for years. I had a Triton Extreme and still own a Korg M50. I had just gotten used to them and was pretty fast with them. But once I started using DAWs, I realized just how abysmal the Korg's sequencer really is. It's powerful but just outdated. Even the Yamaha Montage sequencer is a bit more intuitive. But once I got the MPC, I learned what I had been missing all these years. Why can't keyboards have 128 midi tracks instead of just 16? Why can't they have better touch screens with pinch to zoom? Why can't they have more than one level of "undo?" There's simply no going back to using the Kronos for sequencing purposes. I may end up with an MPC X. 😂😂 Thanks for watching!

@@darrickkeels6387 you are absolutely correct.... Especially with the Kronos being one of the FIRST keyboard workstations to have an SSD. There's absolutely no reason why it couldn't have more midi tracks or levels of undo. I came up on roland keyboards. I still have my Roland xp80 and my Roland Canton X6. It's sad to say that the sequencer on my xp80 is more intuitive than the one on the Kronos.... But yeah. The MPCX gives me the ability to control and incorporate all my old gear. The Kronos is basically a sound module now... It's still a great board for live applications but in the studio it's the MPC I use the most.

Nice video! I related to your tendency to ignore groovebox/samplers in the search for a hardware sequencer. I'm the same but i'm starting to take notice especially with this MPC One. I've got a few questions i hope you can answer...you mentioned that you can assign audio samples to the pads. Can you also assign midi clips to the pads to trigger them? And how many minutes of audio (sampled/recorded audio data) can you hold in the 2 GB of RAM. I would have thought it would be a lot...like hours as opposed to minutes? Although i did read somewhere that apparently the OS takes up almost half the RAM...is that true!!?? Also, i understand you can't stream audio from the hard drive/SD card but can you record audio directly to it?

Hi Darrick. This video speaks volumes. I have used a lot of hardware sequencers such as the xp80 and 50, Triton and now use the Mox8 in my current setup. When I don’t have a drummer, I use the convenient AB sections to trigger beat variations. I use Logic to use my favorite synth plugins. I was intimidated by Ableton to use as a live sequencer because I’m so used to Logic and Pro tools. The only drawback to Ableton is loading multiple songs and sequences to have at your fingertips instantly. The Akai seems to fit the bill for having that instant access to scroll from song to song. I really appreciate that you are have used all of the main workstations and can comment on from experience what their strengths and limitations are. Thanks for helping me make a decision on some hardware that will work inside of my current setup.

Great review, I grew up playing keyboard and sequencing on my Roland MC-500 mkII sequencer and I've really missed that work flow. I've been trying to decide if I want to get an MPC One and you definitely made a great argument to get one. I really just want to make music without my computer and daw.

Loved this presentation 👍 Though I've moved on technically, I still own my RM1x because not only is it a great hardware sequencer, it's also a fabulous midi manipulator. I also own a few Roland Groove Boxes too. My studio is DAW based using Studio One Professional v4 with lots of hardware/software - including a desk. The Akai MPC ONE is way more than a beat maker (as you discovered) Its great as an ideas sequencer and A tool for remixing older midi creations - connect your old RM1x if you still have it and use your old midi creations or remix some of the Yamaha's sequences on the Akai ... Cool ideas can emerge. 👍

I appreciate your input here. I'm considering an MPC One, so looking for different perspectives. I do believe, however, that the sheer amount of stock footage I just viewed is giving me rickets or gout. Or both. But your delivery is clear and coherent and the audio is very good.

Great video. I make my living playing piano and keys and can relate to your journey. I bought an MPC Key 61 last June and have loved the writing experience. I have gigged with this keyboard as well as started projects for production which has allowed me to make music with an ease of use and a modern sound. I use it in a live looping setup when performing live as the sequencer and sounds on board are robust enough to handle on the fly arrangements. Having owned other keyboards and groove boxes there are other choices for live performance as you have mentioned, but I see no other keyboards or groove boxes with the capabilities I find on the Key 61. The MPC is much more that a beat machine. Yes Sir.

Hi! Great narrative and story from the point of view of a graduated music professional. I'm curious, if this is your idea of the perfect hardware sequencer in a hybrid setup, how come you also bought the Roland MC-707 and Machine MK3? Or was this the most recent purchase? This doesn't quite fit with the narrative of the video where you were completely ignoring grooveboxes until the MPC One was announced.

Thanks for the info. I am looking to improve my workflow. I have Ableton Live and a Push 2, but wondering if something like the MPC One, or Maschine Plus will improve my flow and make me less reliant on the computer. I am quite heavily invested in NI, with their Komplete plugins so thinking Maschine, but then wondering if I should get the plus to allow me a bit more freedom if needed. Also come from a mainly keyboard background. Decisions! Lol.

Were you able to do workstation-like tasks with One? Splitting and layering instruments, changing presets between songs etc. ? Using now triton le eith custom sounds and 32 mb ram is a bit on the low side, but so nice to ditch computer for keyboards. My bandmate uses computer wth midi keyboard tough. He also does electronic percussion, so mpc with good multisampler/keygroup seems like a good pick for the job.

I use the MPC as for its sampling, recording, sequencing, and live clip launching ability. It would not serve as a good replacement for a synthesizer or sound module. Yes technically you can layer sounds and switch presets but you will run into polyphony ceilings really fast and setting up layers will not be a simple task.

Man, that's a lot of stock footage video clips to fit your story. haha. Great vid, and I totally agree about the MPC One.

I have a steep learning curve ahead. Throughout the years, a tower full of rack gear has been collected. DAWS and plug-ins and now the whole Positive Grid suite + Spark 40 amp. I've used instrument vsts, drum machines and guitars as a way to jam, but have not yet learned to connect it all together. It's like a paralysis sets in and just the thought of learning how to integrate a rack into a DAW feels like it could become an arduous task. My problem was that I had an impulse reaction to buy everything way ahead of gaining knowledge of how it interconnects and its ease of use. Because of ignorance, the learning process is amplified. Use my mistake to avoid doing the same. On the bright side, this video may be a way to inspire the beginning of how to tie it together somehow. It brings hope.

Thanks Darrick....Using Reaper and looking for something I can really learn and put my Nord, MODX and Nautilus to work.

I'm very happy still using my SY77 and Xp50 with their excellent sequencers. I have to though because I'm slowly going though a ridiculous amount of work from the past. Do sythesisers these days even come with sequencers or do you have to go the way of extra hardware

The Korg Kronos, Krome, Roland FA Series all have sequencers. The Montage/MODX and the Roland Fantom have limited sequencing available on board.

It is indeed a great machine.

This is video is superb. Many MANY years ago I used a Korg M1 in tandem with a Yamaha QY10 sequencer, and my results were surprisingly good. Fast Forward 30 years, I'm now thinking of buying an MPC Live II to use in tandem with my MODX8. I can unplug and edit whilst away from the MODX in a more relaxed fashion and this is exactly what I did with the QY10. Sitting hunched over a workstation menu diving for hours on end was tedious, not to mention the back ache, whereas the QY10 made things so much easier. The Live II means I can be a couch potato AND be creative at the same time. Thank you 🙂

I compose my roland xp80 in multi timbral using fl studio.I still love the JV-1080 sound more than ever..but I hate using the computer... I was thinking of getting a mpc one to do all the sequencing and recording the final performance . Is that possible or are there cpu limitations? would you think the akai force would be a better choice as it is likely to have a more similar workflow to fl studio which I am used to? any help much appreciated

I don't think you will run into any CPU issues especially if you are using the XP80 as the sound generator. MIDI takes up very very little CPU and virtually no RAM. When I have my Korg Kronos or Yamaha MODX hooked up to the MPC, it's the keyboards that provide the sounds mostly. Pianos, strings, horns, pads, woodwinds, guitar etc are all supplied by my keyboards, so the MPC isn't working hard at all. I will sometimes record the drums using the MPC tone generator. Occasionally I'll have a few short audio samples etc. I never get anywhere near maxing out the MPC. Now if I had long audio samples of 5 minutes, a bunch of sounds like brass, pianos, and other voices that take a lot of samples, I am sure the MPC One would choke. However, even the MPC Live and MPC X give you the same CPU and same amount of RAM so stepping up to those wouldn't give me any more to work with in my case.

I think i would use the drums from the MPC and everything else from the xp80..I would only use audio to record the final song from the xp80s audio when the composition is finished....I think im going to go for it. Excellent content; I feel much the same about DAW's; tried to warm up to Ableton but I just can't. The DAW's take me away from music making into 'clicking'. I will explore more of your MPC videos. In retrospect, would have bought the full-blown MPC X instead?

This is just what I was looking for … I just finished watching SamplerKings playlist on the evolution of the MPC as I’m looking for a hardware hub …..I’m a classically trained instrumentalist but I also grew up during the end of the EDM rave scene so I find myself torn as I’m also obsessed with sound design A hybrid setup is the perfect option - I can’t possibly sit in front of a computer clicking a mouse and going through end,es menus and plug-ins…. ….. I’m trying to combine my iPad Pro with a sampler, groove box plus Korg monologue and a Microfreak ….. this was a great case study as it seems that MPC touch screens might do the trick to replicate this set up

How is it as just a plain old sound modle for my digital piano? how are the organs sounds? are draw keys available on the screen?

It definitely has some great sounds available like organs (with on-screen drawbars), pianos, pads, strings etc. But the majority of those sounds come separately, requiring you to spend up to $500 unless you catch a sale. The strength of the MPC is really its sampling capabilities and sequencing. MPC means Music Production Center. If your aim is not to produce music but just to have a sound module there are better options out there for that.

Yes. I save songs as sequences. You can have 128 sequences loaded at a time

Me too, bought the rm1x as a poor man option, man it was a awesone sequencer still use it with my mpc today lol. I was the same loved my hardware, had to learn daw but love my hardware.

I don't think so because I have no use for that Maschine. I have the MK3 which is the same thing plus except it isn't standalone. I use the MPC One for standalone stuff (or the Roland MC-707). I use the Maschine MK3 when I am using my computer.

What is your take on sequencing Eurorack gear with CV via MPC?

It is excellent at being a hub for Eurorack gear. I've seen it done. I personally don't use Euroracks though.

Just watched again. Have a Nord Electro5D, Nautilus, FA06 & MODX and use reaper. Still wanting a portable solution to control all my hardware synths. I am a rock/jam band guy..You think this will do the trick ? The PMC61 is out but I heard its buggy

The MPC Key is not really "buggy" anymore. It has had several updates since launch. Any bugs that plague the Key 61 would also plague the MPC One because they use the same software. But yes the One is capable of controlling all of your hardware synths provided they have USB. It can control up to 32 synths simultaneously with a powered USB hub.

I totally agree about the MPC One too!

Hey, can anyone tell me if the MPC software has a feture that allows you to quantize note-off messages as well as note on?

Yes you can do those things in clip mode. You would have to save your sequences as audio files to do so though.

@@allieboy181 because you can splice up patterns stack them (nudge one against the other to produce delay effects) and Ive had a lot of artistic accidents simply by overlapping patterns in playlist

Holy cow, I have almost an identical story! The only difference is that I was looking for the ability to play live more than production, and after gigging for a couple of years in my band with Ableton I was looking for something more gig-friendly with a laptop, plus being able to play samples. I got a Circuit which was great for laying ideas but it was very limited and triggering other gear (SE-02, RC-202, my Nord) just increased my setup/teardown time. The MPC One solves a lot of this, plus it's portable and it's by far the cheapest solution.

@@darrickkeels6387 Yeah, and I'm only scratching the surface. If you see the videos I post, there's a clear evolution of my gear (esp since the Pandemic). It was down to the MPC One and the Digitakt but the latter seemed a lot more limited compared to the former, esp in composing songs - plus the One was actually cheaper.

Hi Congratulations for your nice video work and stellar "mindflow"; Brilliant I would say and useful. Owning a MODX and finding day after day it is a great value instrument and a userfriendly interface, I find however the expense (let us say 700 euros in France) a bit high compared to the MODX one (ca 1100 euros). That makes sense when getting new small hardware synth for instance and use the MPC as the central piece of the gear. Also your video well demonstrates how temporary (ephemeral?) this fantastic music synthesys world is, so what is the next ?

Man am I glad I stumbled on this video. This is exactly what I'm dealing with at the moment. I've always used hardware live also. I just have to have that reliability. I use a Workstation as my work horse and bring along maybe one other synth to my gigs. I have good collection of new and vintage gear also. I like to make samples of them and use later in a live setting and not have to lug around so much gear. However I've always hated work flow on keyboard workstations and the MPC one looks so inviting. I guess what I want is an MPC with a keyboard attached and great on board rhodes and piano sounds. Is that possible on this thing? How's the playability if it's hooked to say a 88 key weighted controller? Can a traditional keyboard workstation be replaced by this as reliable performer?

Yes the MPC One is an excellent sampler. You can sample your vintage gear, save the samples as a multisample and play the sounds using a keyboard controller. You do have to keep in mind that the RAM is 2gb. So if you have massive samples on deck and you are playing full songs using audio samples you will use up your memory. For live shows, I use the sequencer but it is mostly triggering the sounds of my keyboards. That way I can have say 15 songs in one project and use very little memory because it's the samples that take up the most room. MIDI data is very, very tiny data wise.

I haven't gone full backing tracks yet. Good point using it live just as sequencer to save space. Since the pads are velocity sensitive would that transfer as well to the through to the controller? If I can have a great feeling playable Rhodes and piano that would negate even needing to bring a workstation for me. Or even own one anymore 😲

Yes the sounds in the MPC One that are "keygroups" which are multisamples play just like the sound in a traditional workstation or stage piano

I think Akai Force is a contender worth considering. All the features of MPC plus a more flexible arranger and song mode.

After watching review after review and tutorial after tutorial of the MPC One (some really informative and easy to digest and some that had me wracking my brain not knowing just WTF they're talking about), I was still on the fence.. but this video made it more personable to me as an instrumentalist (mostly guitar bass and I dabble with the keyboard, that is to say I can get around on it but still I'd like to get better at it) with a broad pallet for musical influences - even if I can't play certain styles, it doesn't mean I don't feel it and get something out of it in some way or another to put in my own compositions. I never really got into making music with a mousepad on a DAW (even if sounds good, I miss the tactile experience of hardware), so this video Really Resonates with me and makes the decision to purchase this device/instrument more solid and sound in my mind .. also being that the price keeps going up since it's debut, I feel time is of the essence for a decently priced used One - thank you, that was some good content - you got yourself a new subscriber

Excellent video. Far to few videos ever mention things the way you presented this. Most video's just go over what it does, and then pros and cons to hardware the person watching may have never used. Which isn't very helpful... The way you presented this is awesome, explaining your path to getting to the MPC One, which is very similar to where I am at. This is one of the best video's about the MPC One I have seen, simply because you added your personal story to it. It shows a use of the MPC One that is real world, and not your typical beat production video. Well Done... I ordered an MPC One, presently on backorder.... I am a keyboard player, and have been looking into getting a hardware sequencer for a while. 128 midi tracks on a maximum of 32 devices at once is just insane. For the price of the MPC One, no other standalone hardware sequencer really compares to the Ones capabilities at all. The MPC One isn't just a sequencer either, it does far more than that. I have to agree that many keyboards really lack the tools needed to do much sequencing without pulling your hair out. After playing around with MPC beats to get an idea of the workflow, I ordered the MPC One. It should work fine for what I want to use it for, without firing up a pc. I do use DAW's, but it will be nice to have everything right there on the keyboard stands when I don't want to use a DAW. I use Albeton, Reason, Sonar, etc. But sometime I just want to sit down and play....

While i use a daw from time to time.... Nothing replaces hardware sampling, programming and sequencing. It is just impossible. I also feel a bit empty inside when i make a song on a computer alone. Even though i can easily replicate my own style in fl studio or what ever program, i dont feel full doing it. Especially when sampling. We live in an age where most people illegally download fl studio then search for hot lofi samples on youtube and make beats that way, i die a little inside every time i see this.

Does the ni maschine does this too?

I wanted a sampler.. so I found the MPC.. however.. I'm a beginner and I since got the Circuit Tracks groovebox from Novation already.. and After learning everything I could about MPC.. I realized the "toy" I already got, has a less menu diving workflow than the MPC when it comes to sequencing. Novation has a sampler too, the Circuit Rhythm. The MPC is a much better sampler in every way, _but_ the Rhythm has the workflow I already know and love.. So.. I got the cheaper sampler.. just cause it seems to be a better sequencer for me.. as a beginner. Maybe I get a MPC later, when they release a sequencer as easy to use as my toy groovebox. :-) 🙂 Loved the video by the way :-)

id like to see roger linn who helped create the original mpc ,linndrumm and linstrument team up with akai again and stick a mpc togeather with his linstrument

Reaper is so solid. I sometimes miss it. I use DAWs for mostly just tracking and end of chain effects. Feel like I maybe wasted money jumping from Reaper to Live.

Yeah the MPC One is definitely better in my opinion

No, the MPC1000 was the last of the great Linn influenced sequencers, and with the JJOS remains the most powerful hardware sequencer ever made. You make a case for the new kid, good job. Maybe it's number two ;)

I would have to humbly disagree. The MPC1000 had a maximum RAM of 128MB vs 2GB in the MPC One. And the CF cards could only hold 2GB of samples. I have a 512GB flash drive and 128GB memory card in mine currently. Not to mention 64 tracks for the 1000 and 128 tracks for the One. Objectively speaking I cannot see how a sequencer that offers less is more powerful.

yes......the last thing I want to do is mess with a computer editor ( DAW ) In my opinion ,synthesizer + MPC One is a very good solution . Nothing superfluous .

My first workstation was a roland w30 and I hated it. I only made about 7 songs on it lol. Didn't like the sequence... Now I don't have problems with folks that use daw and a mouse to make music, I just hate when they act like they're the best when they don't actually play. I'm not the best but atleast I make my music on a piano... Love your videos and glad I'm subscribed to your channel

If you use ableton why mpc? It's another daw. Why won't you buy for example sl mk3 for external sequencing?

For live performances that are fairly simple I use the MPC. I prefer using dedicated hardware to trigger my backing tracks rather than a laptop. Of course if I have complicated routing with cue/click tracks for various band members and stage lighting that needs to line up with music tracks, then I will use Ableton.

Really strong argument towards the MPC One as a powerful sequencer and also people who play spoons to make music at the same time

I love to work with hardware sequencers, but there are not many good ones currently, I was trying to avoid the MPCs but here I am.... the Pioneer DJ SQUID is way too buggy I am returning it

Have you actually considered buying the Ableton Push 2 controller? If tactile is what you're really going for and you still do considerable work in Ableton Live, then the Push 2 is basically a must-have for any serious Ableton user. As a dedicated controller, not only does it considerably speed up your Ableton workflow, it actually makes that DAW a whole lot more fun to use. It's intuitive to use and works fine alongside an MPC One.

You know I have thought about it. But I have a Maschine MK2, MPC One and a Roland MC-707. That's quite a few tactile boxes 😂. I just cannot justify getting another one. Maybe if I start using Ableton Live in more gigs

@@darrickkeels6387 Sure I get that but none of these boxes have been designed around Ableton, which is your preferred DAW. If you use Ableton as your DAW professionally, I would actually go as far as claiming that within a month you have earned back the investment in a Push 2. It's just that good in speeding up your workflow, even if you use Ableton Live only for finishing the ideas you cranked out in the MPC One. For instance, processing FX in Ableton really becomes a breeze with Push 2. There's nothing like it out there that allows for that much tactile and visual feedback control over FX parameters and device macro knobs, whether it's Ableton own FX or 3rd party VST's. FX chains and Push 2 are a match made in heaven.

Correct. It's a question you would have to answer for yourself. It's great for me and my workflow but someone else may prefer the sequencer in the Roland MC-707 for instance.

The Pioneer Toriaz SP-16 and the MPC One are actually very different products. The SP-16 is truly more of a drum machine. It is not a multitrack production box like the MPC. You can load sixteen pads with various samples to be played monophonically but it lacks things like "chord mode" last I checked. In short it's a great companion instrument to trigger samples, create drum loops, and perform step sequencing but it's not a "DAW in a Box."

@@darrickkeels6387 I do love the mpc workflow for sequencing, but love the time it must have taken to pick and cut all that footage. thats dedication, if only you could midi them to the mpc pads so every time you finger drum a video segment starts haha

DAW in a box - exactly what peeps are looking for when they plan to get dawless. Is it paradox? I dont think so. At last you also could call everything that is digital a computer. Imo cool to make tracks without a pc that sound almost like as it was, but maybe in a more creative way. Nice thoughts in your video. Keep the groove going.

listen its a great bit of kit but you only buy the one if you dont have the cash for the x .

Or possibly if you don't have space in your studio or if you plan on gigging with it and want something small. Or maybe a person simply does not need all of the inputs and outputs the X offers. Not everyone buys an MPC One because it cost less.

​@@darrickkeels6387 i get that all i was saying not knocking the product i own one and the force but none of them come close to the x which him also luck enough to have, total agree studio space or mobility then these others in the akai range are top notch but as a user of them all none can do what the x does. thats my views on the one and the force and live, and for all us gear heads you make space when you get a new toy haha

The MPC X is more powerful for sure. I like the One so much I may purchase an X. But more power is not always "better." As a musician who plays live, often on small stages, I can see how the One could be "better" in that environment.
