Is the Eminence DV-77 as good as they said? DV-77 vs V30 & More

Some years after it’s release, I get to check out an Eminence DV-77. Is it a V30 killer or was it just hype?

    Great video and demonstration!!! When I designed the speaker with Mick, we really wanted to capture some of the magic of the older Celestion speakers, while delivering a unique sound all its own. It was never meant to be a direct competitor to the V30, but I see why people group them together. Maybe I can send something new we are developing to you in the future 👍🏼

  • @OMEGAAMPWORKS

    @OMEGAAMPWORKS

    13 күн бұрын

    @@6oundStudio Unfortunately no. The DV final prototyping was completed at a similar time that our Plugin was being completed so we weren't able to add it. The speakers in our plugin are based on the VM12-65 that we had produced, and the MS-60 in the plugin was a prototype that we never released. We will be releasing an IR pack that I highly recommend as we feel that they better represent what our cabs and speakers sound like.

    Ive only ever used v30s for the last few years but im blown away by the dv 77 and hearing them blended together was perfection to my ears, i know mick used to use the g12k100 and jim uses v30 and together they sound amazing, but they knocked it out the park with this signature speaker.

    I think the opposite, a tremendous lack of thightness and transient response. Sounds too soft, too compressed. The high end too "harsh". It reminds me a little bit the old greenbacks at the breakup, but, messy. just like any eminence speaker. I say that eminence speakers sounds great in the bedroom at low volume, but in the real world of stage and studio, it doesn't do the job at all. There's always something bothering me.

    It all sounds like SM57 I've watched a few of these now and my takeaway is that Eminence tend to be a more fizzy and compressed while the V30 is very dynamic and mid forward with a rolled off top end. So the two blend really well together.

    Was not disappointed, solid vid as usual. Like I mentioned in the group, love my pairing of the DV-77 and CV-75 in my KSR cab. DV77 has become my preferred speaker to listen to. It mixes well almost anything. I have one matched up with a Redback in a 212 cab and the blend of the two puts my 412 Mesa cab to shame in a lot of ways. V30s are cool, but they are so ubiquitous. They also seem to have a stifled top end that either lacks fidelity, or can be too harsh/fizzy… but I don’t need to tell you about the V30 😂!

    The DV-77 isn't bad, although I've only played IR versions of them and not through the physical speaker inside a cab. I think comparing the DV77's sweet spot to the V30's IS the apple to apple's comparison. Funny that they landed in the same spot... But even when they don't, that's why you have the best comparison videos on KZread!

    I wonder how boring a flat response (NOT full range) speaker would sound compared to these... They each have such pronounced resonances. I wonder if a non-low-passed "flat" 12in woofer even exists.

    Use any "cab sim" circuit on a pedal from the 2000s that basically what they were doing.

    @@rossbalch Oh, like a "cab sim" EQ curve. Yeah, that could be a control for IR comparisons.
