I would've liked the GTI more if it were black with a sunroof.

Oh boy, even in period we don't remember seeing very many black ones. What do you think was the most common color?

@@bidnerds From what I remember, they came in black, red, or white. I saw all the colors but in my neighborhood most of the kids who drove them were boys and most of them had black ones. Girls tended to drive the white-on-white VW Rabbit Cabriolet, which I love also. When I see these VW Rabbit GTIs, I have strong but mixed feelings. I come from an abusive home. My parents were divorced and my mom remarried. My step-father was an asshole. His 5th marriage was to my mom and he had children from all previous marriages. He would dump his wives and leave his children with nothing. He never did anything for me and my brothers, either. He did, however, become a real estate agent in Orange County and he became rich, ordinary rich I would say. In high school we moved to a very fancy house up in the hills of Tustin, Ca. Since I was on the high school waterpolo and swimming teams and I liked my high school I continued to attend that school instead of transferring to the fancy high school in the hills. I didn't have a car and rode an old bike to school. I was fine with it. Because of the physical and verbal abuse that went on every day in the house, I tried to stay away from home as much as possible, so I would leave at 5am for practice and get home around 7pm every day. At Christmas time it was painful though. Every year, in driveway after driveway, all the kids around me got GTIs from Santa. They had bows on the roofs. These were the ordinary kids. Other kids drove Lamborghinis and Ferraris to school. No joke. The neighbor kids were aware that I went to the poor kids school and I was treated like an outcast. Again, I didn't mind it. I only wish my family life were different. But to see those gleaming GTIs in the driveways on Christmas morning was a sight to behold. I was filled with envy like I've never felt before. I still have that feeling when I look at these cars. I live in NYC now and take the subway everywhere. It has its pluses and minuses. I dream about the VW Rabbit GTI.

I learned to drive in a Mk I Rabbit and a Yamaha motorcycle. Then moved to a Mk I Prelude. I Lusted after the GTI while beating the hell out of its base model on BC logging roads. Wish I’d bought one, or a Prelude, 10 years ago. Why is this being sold NOW?? Something is not right. Someone is desperate or scamming. Wow!

Just bought the identical 2016 G550 to replace my 2002 G500 with 172K miles. I paid top dollar, but with loads of service. These trucks are hard to beat and yes, while expensive to service, when I looked at total cost of operating and depreciation of my 2002, it turned out to to be one of the best long term vehicles I ever owned. This engine is awesome. Great sounds, nice low end torque, and will launch when you need to. Loved the M113 V8 in the earlier truck, but extremely pleased with what Mercedes did here. Based on the performance, I don't see any advantages of having the G63 over this later G550.

@@bidnerds Well, I have a dealer license so tried to buy at Manheim for a bit but found mine at a benz dealer, previously certified, new G550 trade. Had 66K miles and I paid $64K. On the high end with the miles, but the dealer spent some serious money running this through the shop and it truly "needed nothing". I wanted this specific spec, so the color combo sold me as well and I love that the 16s and up have the AMG body kit. My prediction is $72K or some RNM in the $50s. A lot of vacationing going on right now, so BaT can get funny as you know.

if you are selling the sv now and that's the highest it went for then that's the price for that car at the moment. I definitely would have sold it at 310k

How much of a difference do think the platform makes? Most people think it would have done better on BaT.

If JP was just presented better, I would pay so much more to watch this podcast. Amateur camera work, mediocre lighting, probably detracts at least $50,000.
