The fact that he kept saying “my friend” and then mispronounced his last name twice made me cringe.

I have the C70, it feels like it’s what we thought the R5 was going to be. It’s solid af. I still use my R5 for video, but on hybrid shoots. So switching from photos to video throughout the day keeps the overheating away.

Not really, when the first EOS R came out he chose to go with the Sony A7 III and even made a video with Potato Jet talking about why he liked Sony better (at the time of that video)

That’s a colorful shirt Dave! Armando puts out some great content, thanks for having him on. This camera seems to have so many issues which has helped Sony out a lot.

I love the R6! I use it strictly as a B cam. The overheating isn’t nearly as bad as I was lead to believe. Turning it off in between shots and using an A cam really helps it.

My understanding of this video is that the initial consensus about the R5 hasn’t changed. If you’re someone who loves photography and occasionally needs to utilize video capability, then it’s an excellent investment that will give you almost unbeatable quality. If you’re a serious filmmaker or videographer with casual to no interest in photographic work, however, then you are likely not considering it. The C70 and Canon’s other cinema options are going to be the go-to for dedicated video and film work.

Exactly. And it’s strange that is the case because canon marketed it as if it were designed for filmmakers. It’s really just for certain niches of filmmaking. Not a workhorse tool like the C70

@@indymogul Not to mention cameras from other manufacturers released shortly after that also filled the role much better (bias disclosure: I’m a Sony shooter, so I’ve got my eyes on an A7S III or a hypothetical A7 IV that may be on the horizon)

I’ve bought into the RF system precisely for the lens. Camera is important it gets updated far quicker than the lenses.

I would love you guys to make a review on the new FX6

With the release of the M1 Macs, I ordered the R5 about a week later. I shoot 60/40 video to photos. The firmware update improved the overheating timer thing to where it works for me. Hoping for clog 3 to improve dynamic range and keep it competitive. It’s a stellar photo camera for almost anything: landscape, portrait, product...it’s actually a great hybrid from Canon.

So looking forward to Armando getting the C70 :) looking at getting one for sure 👍

Between this and Philip Bloom’s review, I’m really thinking of going for the R5 at some point in the near future.

If you don’t need it, wait for a price drop. The lenses are the real killer of your wallet, even for a holy trinity setup it’s big money. Eagerly awaiting my R5. Hoping before Christmas but doubtful.

I was hesitant too and was thinking about the A7S3 but I eneded up chaning my mind and got the R5 in mid September and I love the EOS R5. The reviews are usually always misleading and it's so much better when you actually use the camera itself. I'm using it for KZread and I'm also using for Photography and it's amazing. I usually shoot in 4K 30 All-i in CLOG. Only if you shoot in 4K HQ mode or 8K than yes it will overheat in about 25mins for me. I live in Hawaii so it's hot and humid but for me Standard 4K looks great and doesn't overheat if you crop alot than you will notice the difference but on my 4K TV and monitor it wasn't a significant difference for me to really go out and complain about it been terrible. Most viewers on KZread consume content at 480P-1080P at the highest. The only thing is the files are massive so I had to buy 512GB CF-Express Card and a bunch of V90 UHS-II SD Cards and it gets even more expensive to own a R5. Even 1080P ALL-i with CLOG on the R5 looks good. RF glass is expensive but its worth it but it depends on everyone's budget. The Canon EOS R5 isn't for everyone but I love my Hybrid Camera. 😁.

Nah he and every human being who edits video knows that the thing is making proxies take time also in general I would say that the new macbooks can edit this Canon R5 footage easily

@@Aman_Mondal If you have a powerful enough computer to edit smoothly then good for you. In this case he didn't. And I wouldn't wait for render cache everytime I need to playback. at this point making a proxy would be a better way to go.

What's the best gimbal for the r5?

I've found editing r5 8K RAW footage in DaVinci is not a problem as long as long a 4K timeline is used and Decode quality is set to full res Resolve instead of full res Canon. I'm editing on a 2017 iMac and the RAW files are on an external SSD. External monitoring needs to be set to HD 1080 in the image scaling tab. The edits play smoothly even with a number of nodes and final can rendered in 8K if required when the edit and grade is complete.

Not gonna lie... I feel like Canon's color science has gotten worse with the newer crop of cameras. Sony's has gotten better. Olympus is still the best and that is why we have been shooting on the Olympus EM1 mkiii more and more on Indy Mogul 🙃. ProRes Raw update coming soon to Olympus... anyone wanna see that? LOL

Nah Sony is still very green toned. Canon has bit more mangenta tons but its more usable and easier to grade.

​@@indymogul Another youtuber did a teardown and discovered that the R5 has almost no thermal reduction engineered into it, he fixed it with a couple of dollars worth of copper plating and thermal paste to dissipate the heat from the CPU & ram. For the amount that this camera costs it is ridiculous that Canon didn't engineer it better. fyi stock temps are around 90deg but with the basic internal copper heat sink he added it was down to about 50deg and overheating was no longer a issue.

It pronounces Ferreira like Ferrari.

Great video, but I still need your help guys, I am about to upgrade my current DLSR and i am seriously thinking about R5. I am into photography with interests in video. But this overheating is a big deal for me. I mean 8K 60fps i dont need that, maybe only for few second clips. But - does this camera overheat during full day of shooting on FullHD settings? I would probably go even higher, and say UHD, 2K and mabye 4K.

Love my R5 - firmwide updates have fixed many overheating issues, but there are some internal settings that help, as well. For the perfect blend of image quality, video formats supported and price - none better

The main shot in this video was indeed shot on the EOS R in 1080p but all the b-roll and stuff shot on the R5 was 8k

I went with Canon after selling all my MFT gear. After the release of the C70 and the M1 Macs the R5 was a no brainer for me. I guess I’m back in the Canon ecosystem.

Something peculiar about the A-roll, what kind of post-processing was done? Visible on a laptop full screen, a grid. Almost like some one when old-school and put a lady's nylon over the lens.

This is a great hybrid camera, but if you are cinematographer this is not the camera to buy. If you also do a lot of professional photo then this is the camera to get.

This feels like a paid commercial for Canon.

Canon: Here's the R5. It's a relatively affordable hybrid that shoots 8K RAW. Hard drive, SSD, PC (and Apple), GPU, and CPU manufacturers are rubbing their hands together like Mr. Burns on "The Simpsons." "Excellent."

You’d have to go to a chrome browser, desktop view and change the settings after searching for a 8k video but you can still tell the 4k from 1080 and 8k and 12k is crispiddy crisp i love this camera👌🏾

Great recording in 8k so I can view it in 1440 on a smartphone after youtube bastardizes it

The Canon 1dx mark iii is still better

Sorry but this was a super basic video with stuff everyone already knows. Felt super awkward too. Love both of u guys, but you can do way better. Also video quality of the A-roll not looking crispy at all. Problem is lens, location, and grading...

As a stills photographer, I, and everyone I know, would never really need the R5, especially because the R6 is so good at lowlight.

It depends on your use case. A lot of people can get by with an R6. Some people do require the higher MP sensor. No I don’t own either

@@jonathanmasters2178 Higher MP is actually a negative for me, as storage space is a precious thing when your on an adventure, and .I prefer small files anyways. The only people that actually need 40MP are either crop-heavy people, or top end studio photographers for big magazines. There's very few times where you'll be printing large enough where you'll be able too tell. My only complaint about the R6 is the short battery life compaired too dslr's. For instance, a d850 can get 1840 shots on a single battery.

Reason why the EOS R6 was Not called the R2? Lucasfilm 😛

Right I haven't had the EOS R5 overheat since I got mine in September. It's only gonna happen if you shoot 4K HQ OR 8K but if you do Standard 4K ALL-I IN CLOG you won't overheat and it still looks great. It's only if you crop alot when you will really notice a difference.

Seems silly to buy a R5 at that price to shoot 4k when you can get a BMPCC4k which offers arguably better 4k footage and codecs for $2300 all rigged out with a lens. Unless you're vlogging, I guess, in which case a $3,900 body makes kinda no sense anyway.

Tbh would rather own and shoot with the Panasonic S5..... From the videos I've seen the footage looks nicer, better contrast, better colours... For the price could buy the S5 + about three lenses for the price of just the R5 body alone!!. Then you come to the song A7S3 and the R5 is just dead in the water... No chance for the R5 it's dead for video

Except a recent single video from Tony and Chelsea Nothrup, almost NOBODY IS TALKING ABOUT CAMERA SECURITY TO PREVENT THEFT... KZreadrs/creators It's TIME. Cameras and lenses are computers. We need them secured.
