There are just multiple factions. The East Coast Brotherhood is way less religious and more based on just morality. Where the West Coast Brotherhood is far more dogmatic and leans on religious overtones.

@usuallydopesvsc okay okay I see that actually. So in your mind west coast is more zealot like, this makes sense. Coming from a churchy background this makes me more concerned lol. It reminds me of the crusaders, like we're they doing this because it was the will of God, or were they doing it for their own interests 🥴.

East cost is much less rule based (except for maxum but he’s a sociopathic fanatic so that’s unfair) West cost is dogmatic and traditional North is a slight mix of both as their footings never been the most solid While the south are apparently crazy thou we have yet to meet them

The brotherhood sits on a curve, too weak or too powerful and the brotherhood falls apart. Too weak and you get the Mojave Chapter in fallout: New Vegas or the 2nd Appalachian chapter in fallout 76. Too strong and you get the Brotherhood in the TV show. Each have their problems. But they are problems that fit to the state of that chapter.

I think Maximus's brotherhood he is part of is a reasonbly sized chapter of the BoS but not 100% that of elder maxsons BoS from FO4, obviously in the show we do see the Prydwen but still unsure if Maxson is alive or not? we have yet to see him in the show as he is the main leader of the BoS , Maybe the Elder cleric who spoke to maximus mentioning to him that he is thinking of making his own BoS chapter, maybe he's trying to split off from the Bos because he is unhappy with Maxsons Leadership?. It makes me think back to FO3's BoS with the Lyons BoS and the Outcasts maybe they're getting inspiration etc from that?.

The brotherhood has always been religious in nature to begin with. Mr house even calls them quasi religious zealots, the brotherhood ranks are modeled after medieval concepts like knights, paladins, scribes, elders and they wear robes and they call their historical records as codexes and their mariposa bunker is almost like a crypt. they’re similar to crusader knights of ancient human history and also one of their soundtrack is called “Metallic Monks” doesn’t that just screams “religious” to you ?

This my theory regarding the state of the BOS by time of the Fallout TV Show. After the events of Fallout 4, the East Coast (EC) BOS remains as the strongest chapter of the Brotherhood in the wasteland. Arthur Maxson envisions to expand the power of the BOS by bolstering the dying West Coast (WC) BOS. He becomes the Highest Elder of the entire BOS and allows each chapter to continue with its own traditions and independency as long as the main mission of the BOS isn't compromised. This alliance has possibly been formed for a few short years as the WC has issues with its members morale and loyalty. The EC supplies armor, weapons, and munitions to the WC hence why we now see T-60 power armor and machine guns (FO4 Assault Rifle). Yet the equipment that is being given is possibly a surplus from the Commonwealth due to the questionable loyalties and weakness plaguing the WC, notice how all the weapons are ballistic meanwhile the East Coast is armed with energy weapons like Laser Rifles and Gatling Lasers. I believe we are witnessing the rise of the WC BOS.

I'm a little late but the base concept for the BoS back when the first Fallout game was released was a pseudo-religious military order of knights and monks. The BoS as portrayed in the show may be more indicative of Bethesda them to return to their roots by adding in the iconography and the cleric role within the structure of the chapter. And if this is the same BoS chapter from the East Coast (it likely is, as the Prydwen is the only BoS airship in existence), then Arthur likely made further changes to his chapter's organizational structure in the years following F4.

If I'm not mistaken in Fallout 4 dialogue Prydwen isn't the only airship. Judging from the cleric words about Brotherhood became weak... While under Maxson's leadership, Brotherhood had became strong, this contradict Cleric view. I suspect Maxson Brotherhood perished in Boston, either destroyed by Institute or Minutemen. Yes Arthur Maxson is the last descendent of the maxsons but he brought the brotherhood outcast back into the fold which they are the original brotherhood now because he does not follow what elder Owen Lyons wanted in fallout 3 this is the original brotherhood ideals this is the East Coast brotherhood. West Coast has a different flag. I think it’s like yellow and brown in new Vegas Maxson was also a little boy in fallout 3 he was 10 years old. In fallout 4 he’s 20 so I think he’s 29 now in the show or something He was a squire. You could find him at the Citadel, but this new chapter that we’re seeing I believe it’s still the original brotherhood Ways But I’ve noticed there more religious, which the brotherhood of steel which I believe that this was the original idea for the brotherhood in the fallout games that’s what one of the creators said I think that the brotherhood were more a religious faction hoarding technology but I like the brotherhood of steel and I like how they are in the show. I think they’re serious about their goal. They don’t want mankind to get technology in the wrong hands. so the brotherhood are there preventing apocalypse to happen again. But this could either be Maxsons brotherhood are a chapter that he sent out I’m not 100% sure

@@Controversially_Nerdy they're never gonna be a savior faction. fallout 4 solidified that for me when you forced farmers to give up their supplies for the BoS. Arthur is heavily close minded and he reintegrated the outcasts into the BoS, these were members who felt like the common wastelander was beneath them, you can't be a savior with that kind of attitude. the last time they could have been good was in fallout 3 when elder lyons believed in letting wastelanders use technology and teach them how to use it correctly and he let the outcasts walk out of his ranks, essentially cleaning up the faction from all the heretical douchebags.

@@Controversially_Nerdyevery time the brotherhood has tried to "Save" the wasteland it ends up destroying them. The lost hills chapter helps defeat the master and and eventually the Enclave and saves the wasteland... Only to be subverted and eventually defeated by the NCR. The DC Chapter purges the entire Pitt, wages a war of attrition against the DC super mutants and helps to defeat the enclave a second time, and in the end the Pitt is taken over by raiders, the brotherhood suffered a terrible schism and massive casualties that is only ended when a great leader takes the helm of the brotherhood. The First Appalachian Brotherhood launches the most successful conventional war against the scorched plague prior to reclamation day, forming a ring of steel around Cranberry Bog, culminating in Operation: Touchdown. And they eventually are wiped out to a man. Their successor chapter fracturing into infighting over a minor super mutant resurgence. Every time the brotherhood has tried to "save" the wasteland they have either failed, decayed in peace, or gone so far from the origin vision of the brotherhood they might as well be something completely different. And I think that's kind of the point. They aren't the savior faction. They will eventually fail. Because that is the way of the wasteland.

@@jasonlopez8499 THATS the moment that solidified it for you? Not when Maxson’s whole plan and ideology for his chapter was the genocidal extermination of like half the innocent population of the country? Or when they force you to slaughter an actual Underground Railroad which was rescuing fully sentient people from literal chattel slavery, as well as slaughtering any of the nonviolent slaves they freed, who are trying to flee and live a normal peaceful life in society? Including wanting to massacre a far away benevolent refuge of escaped slaves with advanced technology that are bothering no one in the commonwealth and actively furthering peace efforts for the citizens of far harbor? Or when they insist you execute Danse? Yeah… Ok.. I swear most ppl must have crazy nostalgia blinders on with the brotherhood from games with a more heroic chapter or just like their cool vibe & aesthetic and ignore everything else about Maxson’s chapter, cuz as someone who started with F4, to me they are very unambiguously portrayed as genocidal maniacs. I don’t even understand how so many people side with them or think making peace with them is the best ending when their main draw in 4 I see ppl talk abt is Paladin Danse’s storyline which like… if you want him to live, that should ultimately put you at odds with the brotherhood? If you were to look at the situation in the commonwealth realistically and logically, destroying the brotherhood is the only good ending. If you take them at their word instead of projecting your own wishes and hopes and ideas of what the brotherhood should be on to them, there should be no confusion that if left to their own devices they intend to take thousands of innocent lives including beloved characters like Danse, Hancock, Nick Valentine, Deacon, etc. If you’re being realistic and want those characters to get happy endings that don’t involve being slaughtered by impending ethnic cleansing, then no true long-lasting peace can me made with Maxson’s chapter, they must be destroyed. Danse’s storyline and all available lore suggests synths like him experience real sentience & emotion, they are not just mindlessly running on programming. And again, the brotherhood makes it clear they will not rest till they wipe out every last one as well as every ghoul, no matter how innocent or altruistic. A non-feral ghoul is a fully sentient human being as well that just effectively has a gnarly skin condition. If you wanted to rid the world of any innocent person with a skin condition or genetic deformity irl, that would make you a nazi. But slap a cool post-apocalyptic steampunk veneer on the same ideology & ppl act like they’re the saviors of mankind? No guys, genocidal eugenicists are not the good guys even in the apocalypse I’m sorry to say, and if you think so, ur a bad person or need to grow out of ur middle school edgelord phase

Its nice to see someone who have actually played and payed attention to the ECBOS storyline in Fallout 4 and knows Arthur is a great guy. Moving on the BOS has always had a minor religious aspect to them its just more prominent in the show for some reason. Here for example is dialogue from Owen Lyons the man who raised Arthur and why he is such a good man from Fallout 3. "Brothers, today I offer a simple prayer. Hail, Creator. Blessed is your power and mighty is your gift of Steel. Bless us today, your noble warriors who dwell in this hall. Let us ride upon wings of thunder and chariots of glory, to bring destruction to your enemies. To bring destruction upon your wicked enemies." That all being said, I do think you might be onto something, as the WC branch never liked Owen Lyons' reforms that Arthur kept nor did they really like Arthur himself.
