My doctor tested me and they said I can’t have the same things listed here! But I also can’t eat fruit it’s too much sugar and especially mango for other skin issues. I can’t eat raw vegetables ether because my digestive system cannot process it and it hurts so bad. I don’t consume seed oils ether. After using this diet I was cured from all my skin conditions and my inflammation got less!! This diet literally saved my life

I agree 100% with what you're saying because why change something that is working for you? For some people it's the keto diet and for some it is the paleo diet or for some people it is being a vegetarian. I wouldn't want to consume those Foods on the daily basis if they are giving me reactions. Not everyone is meant to eat grains and fried foods and fruits. I mean fruits are good but they have a lot of sugar and if you eat too much of it it could be a bad thing. As of this year, I don't eat pork which means I stay away from it and I don't eat it at all. I did it because I want to, not because somebody forced me to do it. I also want to limit my grain intake and eventually stop having it all together. I have gluten-free rolled oatmeal but I'm not sure if it will be safe for me to eat still but it hasn't really done anything to me negatively. I don't eat it on the regular basis

Hello Dr. Sung..... fantastic conversation here. Question.... did I miss any mention on ferments.... ? I realize through a beginning phase,8 weeks, it would be sensible to eliminate ferments and later reintroduce perhaps rotationally to better identify tolerances and add back beneficial effects and nutritional uptake along with additional benefit for he gut health. If not previously spoken of would much appreciate including these points of input as well. Many thanks.... over 10 years down the road from a graves diagnosis here.

AIP eliminates nightshades. With that being said, the 2 biggest culprits are gluten and dairy. Usually we start patients on an AIP diet but will add foods, in the lectin and nightshade family and observe to see any adverse reactions. The key is to add only 1 food at a time for 3-5 days and look for any adverse reactions. The other way to determine food sensitivities is through testing. I use CyrexLabs and/or KMBO. Best.

One trick I use is roasting, then peeling peppers and tomatoes, which can then still be used in salads. Hi! Does anyone knows if we have to cut gluten forever? Honestly, gluten foods like bread pasta are part of my culture and identity, and of course I am ready to give them up for my health... but going out with friends, eating my grandma pasta are also things that are important. Do any of you guys do this diet with once in a while eating gluten without bad consequences?

  • @Suzitao

I would say yes if you have any autoimmune condition sadly. Avoid gluten grains for life. I don't know where you live but if you can tolerate buckwheat (a seed) you could ask Grandma to try making pasta with that?. It wouldn't work for certain pasta types..but..Worth a try. Soba noodles are 80% buckwheat. Also sainsburys (uk) sells..pea fusilli, buckwheat penne, lentil and chickpea pastas but this would only be OK to try after the elimination phase diet. Otherwise I would stick with sweet potatoes and other starchy (non nightshade) veg. Hope some of that maybe helpful.

The AIP diet is meant to be used for the initial phases for about 6-8 weeks then you should add some foods. Try increasing quality fats such as cold pressed olive oil, egg yolk, avocados, almonds, grassfed beef etc. Add one food item a time to make sure you don't have a reaction. Weight loss can be due overmedication(T4), malabsorption, low calorie intake etc. You need to someone to help guide you if you continue to lose weight. Recheck your thyroid with an ultrasound. I suggest working with a qualified practitioner to help you. Best, Dr. Jin

TPO antibodies are the markers for being diagnosed with Hashimoto's. Once you get the TPO antibodies within normal range, the autoimmune attack is stopped. After much testing on my own, I found that it was dairy that drove up my antibodies. It went down when I stopped. I am figuring by the end of this year that my TPO antibodies will be within normal range. After that, I am going to wean myself off thyroid pills. It will make my TSH go up to stimulate the thyroid which is a good thing. It will help wake it up. I had to figure this out on my own.

Adding things like turmeric and resveratrol might also help reduce inflammation and oxidative stress. AIP diet not meant to be implemented forever so starting adding foods every 3-5 days and look for any reactions. Start with egg yolk then egg white then rice etc. Still avoiding gluten and milk products. Hope that helps. Also, find a good functional medicine doctor to help you.
