Is The American Dream Dead? w/ Raoul Pal

Curious about Raoul's thesis? This is by far one of his best videos where he lays out more than 3 decades of work and puts the puzzle together. Everything from World War I to the birth of the American Dream and how the hell did we end up in these crazy times.
In an interview that was recorded for the "What is Money?" show and podcast with ‪@RobertBreedlove22‬, Raoul Pal ties together the golden thread for why our economic world and political world are where they are today, and then look at how this ties into the Exponential Age. Raoul looks back at history: from the fall and decline of the British empire to the Industrial Age to World War I and World War II, up to the modern era.
He then shifts to the new world and the Fourth Turning, “when society passes through a great and perilous gate in history”, and explains that the American Dream as we know it is dead, and a new world is emerging made up of robots, AI, and where there is no cost in producing energy.
Yet in this new world, Raoul imagines a world of hope and optimism, where new identities and communities are formed: the metaverse. “The Metaverse is discovering the Americas again or even a new Solar System. If you think of the world constrained by its GDP, because of humans, productivity, and resources, the metaverse is none of that. There is a possibility that the metaverse allows us, people, incomes in a world free of constraints, free of the debt shackle.
This new world of crypto allows us to create our own world in the way that we want it,” says Raoul. In this special 2 ½ hour interview, you get it all on video! You can find Robert’s "What is Money?" show on KZread or at www.whatismoneypodcast.com Check it out!

    @@Build_the_Future that’s completely wrong.If you look at real wages they have been in decline since the 70s. If you look at household income you need to look at the adjusted data because otherwise it doesn’t reflect the fact that women entered the marketplace in force starting from the 70s and they stayed there unlike the 40s. I am assuming you are a troller but if you mean what you say show me the data Jerry.

    GM the point is both not having jobs or money to realize their dreams like family and a home or taking care of the old, the left and the right both hate being disowned by the ultra rich, they just have different solutions for the demographic problem: the right wants to reproduce their own kind and the left wants to import workers/slaves under the guise of empathy and redistribution

  • @gm426

    @gm426

    Raoul defines the right as being about supply-side, trickle-down economics (basically Thatcherism/Reaganism). Right-wing populism is the precise opposite, it is the rejection of this type of free market economics. Trump promised tariffs and nationalist, anti-globalist policies. Right wing populism is about putting ones own nation/people (populus) at the center of politics rather than abstract "markets" or other nations/people. Also, Raoul constantly bangs on about demographics while conveniently skipping over the most striking demographic change in the West since the 1960s...

    This is the kind of conversation I want to have at dinner parties and small get-togethers! I think we are in the beginning of transitioning out of a monetary system entirely. We will probably have to begin valuing qualities rather than physical objects. This means everyone will have adequate housing, power, food, and basic needs and we will value qualities like tolerance, open-mindedness, curiosity, exploration, valuing all forms of life. In order to get there, we will have to mature our emotional development. These themes were touched on at the end of the video and I would love to see conversations around those themes. The flaw in any dystopia is that humans give away their power. If we take our power back and grow our emotional maturity, our future looks very bright. Don't be scared, peeps. We will create our future. Thank you so much for this conversation guys!

    Interesting discussion thank you, some issues on points raised, no reasoning on how electricity costs drops to zero. If it is zero, who pays for the maintenance, development of new networks (hardware) and day to day operational costs. AI, doesn't replace trades eg carpenters, electricians, plumbers, stone masons, chefs etc. AI is not sentient, only source code written by numerous programmer(s). With UBI, people can follow their passions rather than having to work in order to simply pay the bills, it not that hard to fathom or digest, personally this outcome would be awesome for many leading to healthier happier individuals and families.

    The ultimate constraints of the metaverse will be cpu cycles and storage bits. The endgame currency. And how does energy get to free? Solar and wind will get cheaper but free? Even fusion won't be free since reactors need to be built and fuel will have some cost.

  • @andrewblake2254

    I think he has overstated it. I think raw energy may tend towards zero but there will always be some handling or maintenance costs inbuilt. That is unless some cartel is able to control it. I am in Australia. there is no limit to the amount of solar energy we can produce. Storage and shipping is another issue. There there is geothermal, wind, hydro and natural gas if fossil fuels are still needed.

    The ultimate constraint of metaverse is human's capricious nature. People will eventually get bored with novelty concepts and move onto the next shiny thing. This concept of metaverse ain't even new; playstation home, star citizen, 2nd life, all eventually settled into their own little niche and still remain a niche. This is just another re-iteration.

    On leg of the solution: solar keeps getting cheaper at an exponential rate based on continuous technological advancements, battery technology also keeps advancing to store this power, energy grids become decentralized so not losing power to transmission. Add in AI to keep exponentially advancing these along with reductions in energy use due to productivity advancements and pretty soon there is more energy than required so costs keep coming down and we live in an energy surplus world. Theories show that it will happen by 2035
