The 4K120 is not oversampled but a one-to-one pixel readout of the smaller portion of the sensor. Don’t quote me on this but I’m almost sure Gerald Undone mentioned this in his review.

You are right. 120fps is giving an extra 1.58 crop on top of 1.5 apsc crop. It is 1:1 readout which still is amazing as for 120fps you need to have 8ms readout speed.

Thanks so much for uploading a couple of clips that contain motion and skintones, it's really useful to have practical clips like this to help with kit decisions.

You can get 120 fps in 4:2:2 10 bit out of your A7IV in S&Q Mode - downside is, it's only 1080p. But at least you have the opportunity to capture 120fps 😊

trrueee actually, it's just not something that I use unfortunately because of the quality, but the 4k 120 10 bit 422 s log 3 was crazy impressive out of the a6700!

I think I heard somewhere that there is a tiny bit of oversampling on the 4k120p footage but not really worth mentioning, like 3950px . But maybe every bit helps.🤷🏻‍♂

1:05 wait, that is not how it works. Your low light performance does not get worse because you crop it. That would mean, that the moment you crop in, your image would get darker. Or since you have a Full Frame camera you can test that. Expose a scene. Then put an APSC lens on it/go APSC mode. the resulting image will be the same only cropped in

ok I clarified with a friend and when you're forced in to a crop there's two things that happen - 1. There is visibly more noise 2. If you're shooting at a higher frame rate than 24fps, the low light becomes worse because you have to up the shutter speed for the 180-degree rule. In theory though you a right, it does not technically ruin low light performance but there will definitely be more noise and less detail :)

Eposvox has a good collab with Gerald about it: Exploring crop factor with Gerald Undone. Basically the amount of noise is squared when going down in size, but the exposure itself is the same

the issue is your mac os version more than likely, you just need to update to the latest OS and it will be solved

@@MattyDCCollins yea but then u lose out on the photocapabilites, i think the one thing thats holding me back is finding out that the 1.5x crop is not only of the focal length but on the aperture as well! so a 2.8f is actually a 4f on a apsc

good question, for me 1080p is no longer part of my workflow as I am constantly cropping and manipulating my footage so 1080p doesn't work great for me as I need the extra resolution

what's the memory card speed needed for 120p recording

I think you'll be good with v60's that's what I was using. Double check that but I'm pretty sure.

Does cropping really matter? Just adjust your camera back

It's not just that. When it crops it loses some of it's quality, just like in some smartphones when you go to video modes it automatically zooms in
