Is the 2024 Acura Integra Type S BETTER Hot Hatch than a Toyota GR Corolla?
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
The Acura Integra Type S & Toyota GR Corolla are new additions to their model lineups. The Integra uses a 2.0L turbocharged inline-4 producing 320HP & is FWD with a 6-speed manual. The GR Corolla has a 1.6L turbocharged inline-3 pumping out 300HP & is AWD with a 6-speed manual. Which one is the better hot hatch to buy?

I like smaller cars and coming from a 2010 Miata. I used to live in an area where I could mostly drive it all year round. I now live in Ohio. I drove the ITS and GR back to back and ultimately went with the GR Circuit. Being able to drive all year round with more confidence was a big factor. I don’t track my car, I just do spirited driving on the street. I do have an affinity to Toyota over Honda after some previous experience in the past. Our family car is a 2020 Highlander Hybrid that gets better gas mileage. Driving both, I just felt at home in the GR. It was different then my Miata, but I just had more fun in the GR than the ITS. The GR has a lot of interesting qualities that I think will make it unique to own in the long run.

I totally get your point of view. I'm from Michigan, and I have a slightly different point of view. I've never owned an AWD vehicle and always wanted one as I've owned FWD vehicles my whole life. I currently own a Civic Si that came with those super low profile tires that don't work out well in Winter driving. But after changing not just the tire, but the tire size, my car is amazing in Winter driving with big sidewall snow tires. Especially nowadays where every car comes standard with ABS and ESC. And now the Type S adds in LSD. I'm buying the ITS and will have total confidence in Winter driving once I change out the wheels and tires. But I totally get why others would feel more confident buying the GRC.

My thoughts too. I bought my GRC before the ITS was released but I drove the CTR and felt the same thing about it being too big and the lack of AWD would negatively affect my 4 season enjoyment. The GRC fit the bill perfectly and is so much fun to drive!

I am kinda a new viewer and just wanted to say, I absolutely love the reviews. I have enjoyed so many of the videos and opinions shared. Way to go Sir and I look forward to many more in the future. Thanks man
The GR is a lot more raw and fun to drive. It’s a true tuner old school experience. The Honda is a wonderful car; but it’s too refined it losses the fun factor. I ended getting the GRC Circuit myself after considering both.
I bought a Corrola GR Circuit edition in Heavy Metal tone. With taxes, tags, a mark-up to include lifetime powertrain warranty (excludes clutch) and 4-year free oil changes and tire rotation came to around $54.3k out the door. The Integra Type S silver with the bronze rim option, like my Low Rider S color combo, would cost approximately $64.6k out the door. My Corrola GR arrives this Thursday. One reason I went with the GRC is because Doug DeMuro and other KZreadrs say the GRC is more fun on the street than the Type S. I currently drive a 2014 Corolla sedan and that car drives better now than new. I also own a 2004 Boxster S. Both of my current cars will be sold to make way for just 1 car, the GRC. I prefer a small car, the GRC is 174" long the Type S 186" long. Is the Type S and sister car R Type better all-around cars? Probably. You have so much room with the liftback and seats folded down. A short guy like me could sleep back there. The Honda product is definitely more versatile. It's a tough call as to which car is the best car to buy. Throw into the mix 2024 Mustang GT and the decision becomes even tougher, still.

What is worth reemphasizing is just how good the ITS engine is (can’t comment on the GR). It’s very smooth and punchy, feels like a six. The main zonk is with the seat side bolsters as you mention. Just not quite enough when you’re pushing hard through the twisties. Although pricey, these cars with their reputation for reliability will still be going strong in many years to come when everyone else is driving around in their electrical appliances.

The understeer push in the Corolla can be sorted with a camber bolt mod and anti-lift kit

Great review and comparison. Not a loser among them, I think I would ultimately pull the trigger on the Corolla for the AWD and intangible reasons, despite the objective advantages the Acura has in room, steering and shift feel. Fwiw a quick google search shows short shift kits are available for the Corolla, albeit not cheap and your always taking a chance moving away from stock.
I would choose a 6-MT Mazda MX-5/Miata RF or BRZ/GR86 over either of those, if I was interested in a fun-to-drive roadster.
Do longer throws make it easier to change gears without messing up?
Integra Type S all yhe way. GRC is a great car but not sure it would daily drive quite as well given some of the trunk space limitations.

Are you an Uber?
I don't like the size of the ITS, it just feels too big. I want a smaller car that is more fun on the back mountain roads. I could care less about the bigger back seat and cargo area. This is strictly a fun car for me. The fluff on the ITS is stuff I don't want and prefer not to pay for. The electric power seat just adds weight and they take forever to change position compared to a manual seat. The HUD, really? What a waste when I can easily see the large speed readout. I much prefer my money going toward the better seats, actual handbrake, and AWD. Most reviews I see are driving on a perfectly sunny nice day, so wait until the weather turns cold and see how that ITS does when the snow is falling. The shifter can also be made shorter with an excellent short shifter for only $80 and it's adjustable! SO for me I'll save the $9k difference and use it to mod the car more. And in my area every Acura dealer was adding $10k or more and there are several Toyota dealers selling the GRC for MSRP. So when the difference in price is $20k, there is no decision.
Great review. You should start indicating if these cars have a spare tire. Very important!
I’ve been so busy driving around my Type-S, I didn’t realize Raiti had another video out about the car. Coming from the FK8 and FL5. The Type-S (DE5) is such an all around car you get the added beauty, spaciousness, quality 3D audio, leather/heated seats, and extra safety features for the highway. Yeah there are some features we are missing like a carbon fiber roof which sucks but hopefully they correct it and make a limited edition Type-S or ITR. 🤞🏽 The FWD on the car pulls in all gears and takes corners real nice with the LSD and is less bumpy as you can see in the videos too. I would not buy this car in an AWD platform it will kill the thrill for me for what I enjoy in a Honda or Acura because this car is respectfully made to be driven as a FWD. If you’re looking for AWD go for an Audi RS IMO. The Type-S is the way to go compared to the GR Corolla.
Joe and Lori and Steve and keep up the good work and I love the video 👍 and I take acura Integra type s all day 💯💯💯👍
See if you can talk your buddy into putting some 255 Cup 2s or similar on the GR and see if you like it more! I don’t mind the skinny tires even on the track for now. They’ll be better in gravel.
TYPE S for me all the way. One day hose rates go down a bit, I’m ON IT
Sometimes I ask myself what on earth Acura is thinking when it comes to their infotainment systems. This one doesn't even have Nav and it's in black & white in the year 2023....unbelievable
I feel a GR corolla core is better for cost (As long as you dont pay markup). But the Integra Type S is definitely a better daily if you can justify 52k ... You get luxuary with a 6 speed manual and 320 hp.

Honestly both probably will still be pretty expensive. With gas engines going out and the fact that Hondas and Toyota cars retain a lot of its resale value, it will be still valued at a pretty high price. These modern day legends are the last of their kind.
Came back and re-watched this video, definitely the Integra for me which is the car I went with! In Canada the ITS is only priced $3500 more than the Type R so it’s really a no brainer unless you really want to track your car or prefer the Type R styling. GR Corolla might be more fun in the snow but FWD is perfectly fine with a good set of winter tires so I’ll take the refinement, better gear box and nicer interior over AWD.
What happened to the other model of Corolla GR? The two seater one? Why don’t they compare that with this?

It's a car that can do the fun stuff, but the car tells you it doesn't want to. What does this mean exactly? * More understeer in the Golf than the Type S * Haldex activiation can be delayed at times, leading to more understeer * DSG downshift delays * Exhaust noise is subdued, noise wise car isn't exciting.
