Is the 2022 Toyota Tundra Limited a BETTER truck to BUY than a Silverado RST?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The NEW Tundra has had a warm reception from truck fans and Toyota has more to come for 2022. This truck is meant to go up against the Chevrolet Silverado, Ram 1500, Ford F-150 and Nissan Titan. The Tundra Limited on the outside has the TRD pkg, LED lighting, power folding mirrors and silver trim. On the inside you will be greeted by the optional 14in infotainment system, special seating material, and tons of space. Under the hood is a 3.5L twin-turbo V6 that produces 389HP & mated top a 10-speed automatic transmission. Is the 2022 Toyota Tundra Limited a BETTER truck to BUY than a Silverado RST?

@jmb5940 yeah been looking for a new truck chevy and gmc have the worst problems compared to the rest, engine, transmission, and electrical problems, ford and ram are alright but still have their issues here and there their value also drops a ton, toyota tundra hasnt had to many problems but whenever they do toyota fixes them quickly and their value also holds up more compared to the rest, after searching every truck, my option is a new tundra platinum.

I would stay far away from the new Tundra for the time being. They've been having problems left and right with the turbo waste gates going out on these things with only a couple hundred miles and the vehicles going into limp mode. I thought that was the only problem but after doing some research, they've been having problems with roofs leaking, transmission issues, electronic issues, door lock actuator failures, just to name a few. Not to mention real world testing shows it doesn't get all that better mpg with two less cylinders. They should have stuck with what was tried and true. The limits especially of an ICE are only going to go so far as far as improving mpg in a giant truck.

I am the door lock actuator guy you were talking about, that was my thread on the tundra forum. Toyota not only fixed it but gave me a free gold level extended warranty for my troubles. Yes there are hiccups and I knew that going into buying a brand new model year of a vehicle.

You said the new Tundra gets 20 miles to the gallon regular gas. Other vloggers say the new Tunfra gets only 15 gallons to the gallon. Which one is it?

I have owned GMC and Ford and both had their share of problems. I have never had a problem with Toyota. There is a lot of chatter about Tundra problems but I wonder how many of these comments are from people that have never owned a Toyota ?

I'm a Toyota fan-boy and was awaiting this new Tundra as I am in the market for a new full-size, but honestly the teething problems and the design is just not doing it for me. I need a truck, not a mall cruiser. Besides the atrocious grill, I can't stand the SUV like bumpers. Also, the real-world MPG is a big disappointment, and for that you get much higher complexity and repair cost - no thanks. The interior is decent (except for the reduced rear seat legroom on the Double Cabs), but other than that, Toyota missed the mark as far as this buyer is concerned.

Compared with comparable, non-hybrid models, it delivers 33-percent greater city fuel economy and a 23.5-percent improvement in overall fuel economy, all with the capability customers want in full-size truck - including a 6,100-pound (2,767 kg) trailering capacity. Estimated fuel economy for both 2WD and 4WD models is 20 mpg in the city and 23 on the highway...." GM Media with a larger 300-volt battery and 6.0l V8 circa 2012!

I just took possession of my 2022 Platinum Edition Tundra last week love it so far. I'm 62 years old and have always bought new vehicles every year or two. Chevrolet and Toyota have always been my go-to simply because that's what I prefer. I have owned numerous brand-new Chevrolet and Toyota vehicles over the past 20 years and have had zero issues with any of them. Until today that is, my new Platinum is going to the garage next week for the driver side Platinum door emblem lifting up and also the passenger ambient LED door lighting not working. I love this truck but have to say that I'm a little concerned with the initial quality issues. My particular truck even had a 60-day QC hold at the port, so this is unacceptable in my opinion. What the hell are they doing with these QC holds if the vehicle is not problem free after delivery? I hope that my minor issues are just a freak occurrence, and my truck will be problem free like the Toyotas I have always relied upon for their reliability. I must say that I think the Chevrolet Silverado might be the best buy for the money out there right now. More to come on the warranty repair issues on my 2022 Tundra.

@Lee G I'm retired US Navy, US Dept of Veterans Affairs, and private sector banking IT job. God has blessed me with a good living and retirement, so I blow my money on new trucks every year. By the way minor issues were repaired on the Tundra and with 3k miles has been no further issues. Love the truck.

@Lee G We have much in common, I'm currently %100 PT with the VA that plus I was fortunate enough to get my 20 years so I'm double dipping. I hear you about the job stress with this screwed up economy. I was laid off from my bank IT job after 28 years how I ended up at the VA. Most of my Navy years were reserve time while working at the bank in fact I was deployed to Djibouti Africa when I heard the news. They had to continue paying me until I got back home off of active duty 11 months later at least. I was deployed to Balad Iraq when I got hurt and that ended my military career. I remember working for the bank all those years always worried about being outsourced or just laid off, hated it. It was nice working for the VA as a GS11 IT specialist, the pay was awesome after a few years and no worries about layoffs. You really have to look at how stable your employment is and go from there. I was in a good position with my purchase of the Tundra, had a $60k trade that was half paid off, $66k for the Platinum so only financed around $36k still a lot of money but not $66k plus tax. You would absolutely love the truck that much I can tell you. Good luck to you my friend whatever you choose to do.
