Is the 2022 Honda Civic Si a BETTER sport sedan than a VW Jetta GLI?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The ALL NEW Civic Si is here and Honda say they have made it the best on. On the outside you will find all new sheet metal on the 11th GEN Si. There is a unique grill, wheels, trunk lid spoiler, and exhaust. On the inside you will be greeted by Civic Si specific sport seats, 9in infotainment system, and new interior trim. Under the hood is a 1.5L turbocharged inline-4 that produces 200HP & is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. Is the 2022 Honda Civic Si a BETTER sport sedan than a VW Jetta GLI?
Is the BMW M440i a BETTER performance convertible than a 2022 Audi S5?

As I was watching this, I can't help but remember the earliest versions of the Civic, particularly with the CVCC which, I believe, was a 1.5-liter motor producing something around 52 hp! As a young Navy guy at the time, I used to chuckle a bit whenever I saw one of these rolling around San Diego. We used to call them "pregnant roller skates.!" What an amazing evolution from Honda over the last 50 years!

My father had a new 1976 Honda Civic CVCC with the 2 speed semi automatic transmission. It had also had a manual choke. The car engine had Cylinder Head Gasket problems several times. The vehicle was sold in August 1980. It was great to drive in the snow living in Connecticut with front wheel drive. But it was not mechanically reliable. So that is why my mother sold the car.

Hey Joe, I really appreciate your thorough reviews, your humor, and especially watching you drive properly. Far too many car reviewers out there just don't know how to drive. I'm trying to get better and would love to see you put out a video on driving fundamentals including hand position, heel-toe downshifting, entry/exit of corners, etc. Knowing that you're a professional, I think folks would get a lot out of a video like that. Thanks for your good work!

I love this review and I love all of Joe’s videos. I’m really considering getting the Civic SI for 2022, 11th gen. I like the dual exhaust in the back with the flat black trim. I also think the regular silver Honda badges are perfect. No need for black or any other color, unless Honda starts making other color civics in the SI. Thanks Joe this review and all the ones you do. You’re the best at what you do. And I only rely on your videos.

Lori and Joe, thanks so much for the awesome “on throttle “ review of the new 11th gen Civic SI. My 1st new car was a 1989 Civic SI with a 5 sp manual and 108 HP. I drove that car for nearly 12 years, an traded it in still in good condition. Over the years I have owned or leased a 2006 and 2013 SI. Honda continues to make improvements in this car with each passing generation . I currently own a 10th gen Civic EX-T with cvt tranny. Looking forward to getting back into a manual tranny again. The new SI sounds like a great daily driver. Thank you both again for all your hard work!!!

I was waiting for your review- you give excellent descriptions of what it is like to drive the cars you review. I'm especially glad to see this review as it validates my decision made 2 weeks ago to put a deposit down on a Blazing Orange Pearl Si that's being built next week. Delivery in time for Christmas- the best present ever! I am even more excited to get my hands on it after seeing this review. Best thing is I'm buying it in Rochester, NY and driving it home to Seminole, FL in January. RT 15 through the hills of PA between Mansfield and Williamsport is pure driving pleasure and this car will rock! Did that same drive to FL in a 2019 500 HP Alfa Romeo Quadrifoglio and I expect the experience to be even more fun with a 6 spd. manual. It's not just about HP. Honda has a winner here. Also noticed today that a dyno test of a new Si shows Honda underrated the HP on the example the new owner bought by about 10%. (Maybe for racing purposes?/ sandbagging?) Great review Joe - camera work Lori!

I drove rwd trucks most of my youth and aside from the awesomely hilarious accidental drifts it’s very manageable. The 86 will be more fun the 1.5t is just not an enjoyable powertrain in comparison to the old high revving civics. The new Si is being tested over 1.3 seconds slower to 60 than the 9th gens. I'm actually planning to buy a Jetta GLI in the spring - after previously ruling out a 2022 WRX. This is almost a compelling alternative. I think the style of the Civic looks pretty good, though the front reminds me of a dolphin for some reason. It sounds like the power delivery and shifting is enjoyable. I really like the interior too with that long vent look. I do wish this made more power (I mean, my wife's base Tucson is only 13 HP lower), but the real deal breaker for me is the heated seats. That's one luxury I've gotten used to and really don't want to give up. I live in a colder climate so I use them 4 or 5 months out of the year.

I’m a long time Honda fan, have owned many and really like this car, however, I fail to see how this is a better buy than the GLI. The GLI has significantly more power and torque, adaptive suspension, heated and cooled front seats and heated rear seats (Leather), 3 person electric memory driver seat, bigger sunroof, ambient lighting, full digital cockpit, navigation, better base warranty…This Civic will likely have better reliability, but Honda could have done more here especially considering this is an all new model and the GLI was released back in 2019. I realize that the GLI Autobahn I’m comparing this to is a little more expensive but you do get a lot for the extra dollars.

The Bose sound system, rev match shifting, and standard sunroof, 37MPG, are unheard of in this price class. And Honda seems to have fix their oil dilution problem in the small turbo, so it should be about the most reliable in its class, somerthing the VW's could never say, although recently Mazda, subaru, Hyundia, KIA Crazy thing is, it's still a bargain in todays market, because of inflation, and dealer markup, however it makes the VW golf GTI, Subaru wrx, N series, and the BRZ, and GR86, much closer and price, and there for it is no longer the slam dunk in the class, and with discounts on mazda 3 awd turbo due to slow sales, the competition is fierce.
