Is the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach 1 going to be as GREAT as this 1969 Mach 1?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The Mach 1 was first built in 1969, and has been a stand out when it comes to Mustangs. Under the shaker hood is a 428 Super Cobra Jet engine that is pumping out on paper 335HP & mated to a C-6 automatic transmission. On the outside you have the fast back design, unique wheels, and exterior striping. On the inside of this muscle car you will find everything you need and nothing you don't to rip down the 1/4 mile. Is the 1969 Mustang Mach 1 the reason there will be a 2021 Ford Mach 1?

It sure is nice to see one of the true muscle cars that I remember when I was in High School. I had a friend that actually had a Mach 1 with the 428 Cobra Jet with posi traction and man could it move. His had a 4 speed manual and it was a absolute Beast.

I hate it when that happens to me, small cars (especially tiny ones) are a big problem for me, because every time when I get in, my long hair brushes up against the headliner, to counter this, I get a haircut and problem solved.

I had one of these in 1970. Get into heavy bumper to bumper traffic on a warm day and you'll learn to hate life. And it's handling and braking harkened back to the last night of the Titanic. The 8-10 mpg using the highest octane is also to be noted. However, it was definitely fun on the drag strip and the girls loved it. After all, in my late teens, that's all I cared about!!!

The 428 Cobra Jet engine put out 410 horsepower and the 426 hemi, 427 Side oiler and 427 L88 engines put out around 480 - 500 actual horsepower. My Pro street 1969 Mach 1 modified 428 cobra jet engine put out 650 horsepower (+ 350 horsepower nitrous system). It had a large number of 427 parts like the intake manifold.

Mr. RAITI, GREAT REVIEW. I hope you do more "Memory Lane" retrospectives. I raced on Woodward Avenue as a teenager. There was nothing like the sweet smell of sour , un-burned, un-converted, un-muffled exhaust on a Friday or Saturday night. "Hey Dale, look at the Cuda in the median, he just grenaded his transmission." There was always something either smoking or being pushed sometime during the evening. Can you tell I loved those 60-70/71 muscle cars? Tony

My first new car was a red with gold strips 1969 Mustang Mach 1. I picked the 351 4 barrel that was listed around $2700. For budget reasons which included insurance. I passed on the 428 CJ. After college and starting a family. It was time for a four door family cruiser meaning it was time to part with the Mach1. Since then I've owned several Mustangs, but none felt like the first time I drove off the Ford dealership's lot in my new Mach1. It was great seeing you enjoy that beautifully restored Mach1 CJ. Of all the cars I've owned in my lifetime. The 1969 brings back memories that were Special like the car was. With the talk of the GT350 being discounted. I hope Ford makes the upcoming Mach 1 a special Mustang. More than just a shaker hood. A performance Mustang with the horsepower and looks to make it special again like in 1969. If the GT350 is discountinued. Hopefully Ford will use a version of the Voodoo or a supercharged Coyote in the Mach 1 with around 600 horsepower placing it between the Mustang GT and the Shelby GT500. Great video, great review on a great car.

Great video. As the original and still owner of a 69 Mach 1, also a 428 Super Cobra Jet with the exception of mine being a 4 speed, I really enjoyed your presentation. Please allow me to correct one point. Yes you might have been able to get a 69 Mach 1 for $3200 bucks but when you went all out for an SCJ you paid quite a bit more. My cars sticker was $4357 dollars. People today think that was cheap but it was a lot of money back then.

I had a very rare 69 1/2 Mustang Mach 1 GT SCJ special order 6/6 / 69 . I was a driver and did everything the car could do . Nothing much should come back . It was a death trap as most all muscle cars. The car had everything .The motor was stock . There is a replacement for displacement. It never fit with the gearing . The car had many interesting options that had little to do with it's handling ,and balance between gears. There was no option missing , other than a ridiculous automatic transmission. The negatives out weighed the positives, but I pushed the car to it's absolute limits . The first time out accelerating around a clover leaf the rear drifted ,but it didn't lean much . The stock shifter was something that should never had been put in the car . Long throw and loose and sloppy. I had the drag pack and the low ratio . I think it topped at 115 and that was good, because without pins the hood would come off. The car was very complicated in a hard turn . I learned to come in hard and slam the brakes and hit and drift around the corner . You had to be very careful braking because if there was any dip the nose would dive and you crushed the pan . That happened many times and if it wasn't repairable it had to come from Canada. It's a sports car right ❓ it should handle but it didn't . Corner braking practiced did work with boosting the springs. I wanted a Porsche but fell into the car and probably shouldn't have gone further but in respect of Steve McQueen I kept going. I replaced the shifter with a Hurst comp plus and kept the white ball . Best on the stick. F those Tee's. I put performance heavy duty springs up front ,but still crushed a pan ,but a bit better handling . I replaced the chrome GT rims with Shelby aluminum racing rims and it took weight off my front ,but took away from my rear. The car did come with traction bars ,but I wasn't happy with a straight line car , but I decided to try and get it to hook because it broke in second gear and lost a couple races too close in third. HP doesn't win a race if you can't control it. I would've been better with taller gears but then I'd die on the highway. The thing that was fun is I kept learning to manage the cars issues. I went out and came against a 350 built Camaro moved ahead in third ,but third was a good gear I just didn't need second so I skipped it . Amazing launch . I took so many cars doing that . Guys don't want to admit it but many small displacement cars would give a serious run . I almost killed myself against a Porsche . We started at 55 rolling on small highway with bends and a bridge. The Porsche hung on my back left but was gaining. The road straightened out and I put the pedal down but came to the bridge . My car lifted air born and the tire chirped three times before it straightened out . I tasted steel and put the pedal down again. I really never shook him but he never got ahead. I think he could've ,but he was probably adjusting his tie while running me. 😜 . I never had passengers and what I did was totally reckless but I just had to know what the car could do . I took it out after a light rain at night to test my new rubber. Just me . The road had two smooth bends and payment. At 80 on the first it held but at 90 on the second it broke and went into a spin . I slapped the curb and took out my right front tire and went off the road and just missed a telephone pole. I learned a lot about not to do it again. The Mustang did spin straight around the motor and straight in direction and predictable out of control . I broke on a frosted highway and it stayed in my lane and I pumped the brakes everytime it pointed straight. I have to say as a positive I never felt the car was going to roll. One of the biggest pluses were the brakes. The car was very comfortable to drive and just cruise at 60. I loved the interior. It has the pillow back seats and I fell asleep at the wheel twice. The car looked very cool and was intimidating and I used that to rattle guys to F - Up.A replacement for displacement is also understanding their car . I can't say I don't miss the car but at least I got everything out of it and made it do what it was supposed to instead of bull shitting about HP and washing the paint off in the driveway. I should've washed it more though. I do have to say also is considering what I did the Mustang held up and was actually very reliable and deserved it's place at the top of many muscle cars. 😎
