Is the 2019 VW Tiguan R-Line Black the BETTER Tiguan to BUY?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The VW Tiguan has grown in size from it's redesign. Under the hood is a 2.0L inline-4 turbocharged engine that is producing 184 HP & mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The R-Line black Edition has some extra touches to help separate this CUV from the crown. On the inside there is plenty of room and a very comfortable interior. Is the 2019 VW Tiguan R-Line Black the CUV you should buy?

I just bought one. I keep car wash tokens in the cubby on the dash. And my gym membership tag. And some other trinkets that the sun won’t burn. The Apple car play is great. I love the quiet and smoothness and the seats are great. It has a CD player in the glove box. AC cools the inside super quickly. There are lots of thoughtful engineering benefits I find the longer I drive it. I feel like I spent more money than I did especially with the $5,000 dealer discount. I wish the armrest was adjustable. I love the huge Map Pockets/Bottle Holders in the door. It also only requires regular gas and not premium. I also appreciate 1-touch up/down on all 4 windows. The doors are heavy and solid. There is also a nozzle that squirts warm water on the back up camera lens that cleans off snow or mud. Many don’t know this. You can also close the windows after getting out of the Tiguan by simply placing your thumb on the door knob dimple, the same dimple that’s used for locking/unlocking. It’s takes about 3 seconds and all windows/moonroof close. Best of all VW includes a 6 year / 72,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty on the 2019 models so go get yours fast because it will be a 4 year / 50,000 mile warranty beginning in 2020 with a 2 year scheduled maintenance plan included. Great review! I love that Pyrite Silver which is a new color for VW. Mine is black.

I drove this and as a previous Mk7 Golf R owner I loved this vehicle even though it had a lot -- LOT -- less power. It is very composed and relaxing to drive, in a good way. It's a civilized ride. Composed, quiet, great cockpit, great seats. I definitely recommend trying it. I would pick this over a BMW 3 series. You can probably chip it to get additional power out of it. I think this is the best thing in VW's lineup currently.

I bought this car and I absolutely love it! It looks incredible! The only downside is the power but there are so many other pros that I'm willing to deal with it. I have a wife and 3 kids with me pretty much at all times so I'm definitely not doing any racing and what not. Also, I saw that he says he wishes you could have the navigation on the gauge cluster but you can! The cluster is extremely customizable! I'm not one bit mad at the purchase and just hit 10 months with it!

Good review but a couple things the reviewer said the car doesn't have...but does: 1. Seat memory positions: These can be toggled through when the car is turned on. There are 3 different profiles and can be tied to separate keys. 2. Navigation in the dash: Because this car didn't have the nav card inserted, it wasn't allowed. Once purchased (comes with the car), you can toggle if you want nav on the touch screen, in the center of the dash or on the full dash. You can also place turn by turn in the middle of the tach or speedometer.

“Why don’t we fire this up and hear how this fake exhaust sounds”. Classic Joe! Yeah this thing is WAY underpowered. If you look at the 2016-2017 Tiguan, it’s like 220 HP, it’s basically a GTI on stilts, and oh with AWD. Can’t afford a Golf R and need an AWD vehicle, take a look at 2016-2017 CPO Tiguan R or SEL, they go for about 19K, and had an original MSRP of 40K. I just test drove one and loved it, might be my next vehicle.

Ben Vernick I love my new Tiguan and it’s far and away better than the previous gen even with the HP difference the torque is greater and makes up for it. I had the previous one and love this new one. It’s peppy and they weren’t designed to be that fast because mostly older people buy them. I’m probably the youngest Tiguan buyer at 25. It is a bloated American version but I haul all my gear behind the second row and never use the 3rd row. The warranty is the longest around and the dealer took off $5500.00 her in Edmond Oklahoma. I feel like I spent more. The leatherette is easy to clean and the apple car play is great. The Tiguan is smooth and quiet and only takes regular gas. The Rav-4 & CRV were slow too

For those who are considering a family compact SUV, this one is a great option. I found CRV even sluggish with power, CVT was just not reliable while RAV 4 felt a lot more plastic. If you ditch the R-Line trimand come down to SE/SEL trim, it offers the best value out of the segment in the industry. Amazing room, lots of cargo space, very responsive infotainment system with Android auto or Apple car play and a very smooth ride with enough power.

Got mine last week and I love it. Mine is AWD and it has the Auto dimming mirrors but no 3rd row. If you want a 3rd row get the much larger Atlas. The seats will lay flat and click into place. The speed is better when you go into Sport mode. The little Hotdog tray on the dash board can be changed out to have a door so you can store some stuff in it. which I plan on doing soon. The over seas Tiguan has the door already. You can get a SEL Premium R Line Black that has all of the bells and whistles for a lot more but the wheels will not be black.

The seats are wonderful and the infotainment screen and functionality is so much easier and clear to use. The 3rd row is great In a pinch. The VW warranty is 6year / 72k miles, it’s so smooth. Cargo capacity is large. The leatherette and heated seats are great! There are small touches like a CD Player In the glovebox! The bottle holders in the doors are so huge and accommodate large bottles and several of them at the same time. And they are lined with felt so the contents of the pockets don’t make noise. I have no regrets. I traded in a Mazda actually and it was good but the VW feels great.

Seriously considered the Tiguan last year when my wife and I were considering a new crossover as her daily driver and the family's trip vehicle. My impressions... () As a GTI owner I found the performance sluggish. However, putting the Tiguan in "sport" mode made a significant difference. Still not a GTI but no longer sluggish. If I owned one I'd add a Stage I APR tune to the engine for about $800 and increase the HP and torque by about 40%. (Unless a warranty issue can be shown to result directly from the tune, it doesn't invalidate the warranty by the way.) Remember this IS the same engine as the GTI; the difference lies in the tuning. () The third row is a cruel joke. Suitable only for the S&M crowd for holding a small bound and gagged hostage. Fortunately, it's a low cost option rather than a standard feature. Save the $500 and put it toward a Stage I tune. () Handling and drive-ability. Best in class. No contest. Unfortunately, though, the American version of the Tiguan uses a conventional automatic rather than the DSG available in Europe (where it is known as the Allspace rather than the Tiguan and the smaller previous version of the Tiguan is still sold.) Nevertheless, if you're partial to the handling of European vehicles, the Tiguan is far and away the best in its class. () Utility. Although the Tiguan (along with the Nissan Rogue) is typically considered a "compact" crossover, at 185" in length it's up to six inches longer than the competition (e.g. Mazda CX-5) in the class and has extremely generous cargo space. It has up to 73.5 cubic ft of cargo space behind the front row (versus 59.6 in the Mazda CX-5) Furthermore, the cargo space is especially well designed as a box with relatively wide space, low liftover, and minimal intrusion into the space. () Bottom line. Ultimately we purchased a KIA Sorento, slightly larger than the Tiguan (189" in length), a close cousin of the Hyundai Santa Fe but with a V6 engine and an occasional third row that's actually usable. Had the priorities been solely mine I might have opted for the Tiguan and invested in a Stage I tune. But since the family truckster is my wife's daily driver and the vehicle we use for f trips, the Sorento better met our overall needs.

Hey man, liked your critique and points. The Sorento is a great car and looks good with the new exterior updates brought up recently. I went with the Tiguan because the drive feel was more satisfying then other cars in its class, and the third row has been very helpful in times where we had to carry 6+ people like once a year for a week, but didn’t need the whole car to be tuned around it as it was a niche type of use. Doesn’t intrude in cargo space much so I was okay with it. I was really considering the new CRV but the killer for me was the CVR. It is modern and gets you a solid 38 mpg in the highway, but I can easily do around 32-34 on the Tiguan if I drive economically, which is fine by me. The most important part about the Tiguan is the transmission.. man does it change the car completely. It allows me to go in “fun mode” while being able to still get 30 mpg on my standard non-highway drive home. Curves are handled with ease. I hope your Sorento serves you well!

@@thekaysers3301 Good points all. I'd note that the Tiguan All Space (the US Tiguuan) apparently comes standard with a third row overseas while it's a $500 option in the US. This reflects the national differences in terms of what consumers consider an adequate vehicle size. VW has been burned repeatedly with their Euro-spec vehicles in the US. The Euro Passat, for example, was replaced by the larger (and cheaper) US Passat and sales increased significantly. The Tourareg has been replaced with the larger, cheaper VW Atlas in the US. And the last generation Tiguan has been discontinued in the US despite the fact that a short wheelbase version of the Tiguan continues in Europe. VW has announced the Golf won't be exported to the US for the next model year. In effect, it's being replaced by the larger Jetta that's not offered in Europe. Finally, VW has discontinued both the Golf Sportwagen and the AllTrack in the US. That probably reflects as much the dismal sales of wagons ("Estates" in Europe) in the US as much as a rejection of the specific models by American consumers but I think it's a shame. As I said in my original comment the family crossover is my wife's daily driver so she got one and a half votes to my one vote on what to buy. She already loved our 2012 Sorento and replacing it with the current generation was an easy choice for her. Like many drivers of short "stature" (also known as females) she preferred the somewhat higher ("command") seating position of the Sorento compared to the Tiguan. Like you, we seldom use the third row of seats but it is more accommodating than the Tiguan and it's VERY convenient for chauffeuring a gaggle of teenagers or allowing us to take a single vehicle when we have six or seven passengers. It doesn't handle as well as the Tiguan but I have my GTI for canyon carving and I treasure it. All in all, kudos for your choice. If you're after more performance with a small sacrifice in fuel economy I'd recommend you look into a Stage 1 tune from APR. You'll be amazed at the improved performance. You won't have to worry about clutch replacement with the automatic transmission, and contrary to conventional wisdom a Stage 1 doesn't invalidate your warranty unless a issue can be shown to result directly from the tune, itself.

Stephen Hendricks very interesting points. I hope to see some interesting choices in the VW lineup in the next few years. Currently the Tiguan will likely end up being our family hauler, and perhaps I can get myself my own GTI. I do think the Tiguan has its ups and downs, but I don’t think we will own it for longer then then 6 year/72k bumper to bumper. After that point I will likely gravitate to something smaller. At least you will have peace of mind in that sorento!

My grandma is tiny and we get her back there for trips under 30 minutes to dinner. It may be a gimmick but I do use it pretty often because it can work for some people like me and my family. I don’t ha be room in my 3 car driveway for the width of the Atlas so I settled on Tiguan and it works well. I’ll do a Hyundai Palisade in the 3 years when my Tiguan lease is complete. I wouldn’t defend the Tiguan here if I didn’t like the car for the price I paid. It’s well built. There are cupholders back in the 3rd row and the air conditioning gets back there well and I tuck it into the floor when I don’t use that row.

Scott Thompson lol have you driven it? I bought one and everyone I let drive it says it has enough power. Not tons but it’s peppy. Rav-4 and others feel slower

@@2004cyrus It's nearly 2 seconds slower 0-60 than a Honda CR-V which has a 1.5T and gets wayyyy better MPG.

Striker 50 2 seconds is nothing - we get to the stop light at the same time or Tiguan does first because Tiguan pours on tons of torque while the CR-V poops out. Plus the turbo in the CR-V is having problems but the oil/gas dilution issues that Honda can’t find a fix for. Everyone is relaxing their naturally aspirated engine is the way to go.

Why is it that the Tiguan R only gets aesthetic additions/mods, unlike other R line models (eg: Golf R), that get perfomance and suspension / handling upgrades? If they also got those upgrades, may be I'd be looking to buy onr, but to slap the R badge on the tiguan and only make it look 'better' than the non R tiguans is a complete wank.

It’s just appearance package for Tiguan and Passat. The Golf R is a totally different sporty animal
