    OK so the copyright situation changed and I wanted to let any people who view this video later know. I will also include a section about this in the next part of this video series. Here is a copy of the post I made to the people over on Patreon about this: Well, to my surprise, the copyright situation on my videos has changed substantially, so I need to tell you about it so you can make the decision of whether or not you still want to support me on Patreon. OK, so, Warner Bros first doubled down on parts 2 and 6 of my Teen Titans series, before I put up Part 7. This basically means that I disputed their copyright claim and they came back to me and said, "No, we stand by our decision." This led me to believe they would do that for all the videos. However, today, they released their copyright claims on parts 3, 4, 5, and 7. I am really confused as to why they decided to do that, but hey, I'm not complaining. I honestly thought there was no chance they would do that. So now I am re-disputing parts 2 and 6 and waiting to see what comes of that. I still haven't received any money from the time that they spent being monetized by Warner Bros, but I'm assuming that I will receive that in the next couple days. Anyway, I wanted to let you all know, since I'm sure some of you may have only backed me on here because of those specific issues I was going through. While more issues may pop up in the future, this has ended up being not nearly as bad as it seemed, at least for the time being. Regardless of if you decide to still support me financially this way or not, thank you so much. The fact that so many of you cared enough to back me on here . . . it's amazing. Anyway, I hope that makes sense! Thanks, folks. You're great and you've made this a lot easier! ^_^

    ok, i didnt want to write this, but... First the Episode with the Heroic Racist: I saw him as a caricature of american heroism around the world ... and as the classic bully who thinks that with half apology all his hurting actions are forgotten, mixed with the often found egocentric view that apology must be accepted. The reality is: most things cant be undone and why should i stick with someone together if he/she cant accept my persona or that of the people i care the most for, for whatever reson, and tries to hurt them for the ideas of hate they have get from someone or something. And after all, we all know that the worst is to be treated as a lesser Person, just like a Robot. And Episode Beast boy working in Mac Burger is about eating more vegetarian or vegan probally or eating meat is Ok...

    "Fathers are good ! Fathers raise you! Fathers love you! I was protected by the monks of Azarath! I was raised by my friends! They are my family! This is my home! And you don't love me or care for me and are not welcome here on earth! " ...to me, this was the lesson I learned as a kid watching Raven's arc for the first time. The idea that people who are related to you aren't necessarily your family was so new to me, and made me rethink the way my own parents and family treated me at home, and how they emotionally drained me from such a young age. To this day, Raven is such an important character to me, and I'm so grateful to the writers for deciding that this is the message they wanted to convey to children.

    When I was a kid, what I wanted to hear more than anything from my parents is, "I'm proud of you." Instead I would be constantly compared to my siblings, to my cousins, to my classmates, and it honestly just felt like shit everyday. I've had low self-esteem for a variety of reasons for as long as I can remember and being told constantly that I wasn't good enough, that I should study more to be at the top of my class or I should eat less so I wouldn't be so fat, obviously didn't help. It took years, but I've learned not to put so much weight on what my parents think of me, that the validation that I craved so badly isn't something to live for. As they grow older, my parents have mellowed a bit and are adamant that they were never "that bad". Although I'm well aware my childhood was not nearly as bad as many others out there, I refuse to believe that I deserved to be treated like that, and even today I have real trust and communication issues with my parents. I really, really love children's media that tries to teach kids lessons that their parents would never tell them, and I'm grateful that I had shows like Teen Titans that told kids that their parents aren't always right, especially about their children and what they're capable of. (I kind of just word-vomited, I'm sorry if this doesn't really make sense, haha).

    @A piece of fucking sliced white bread! The fact that a conversation this deep and complex about racism is even happening in a You-Tube comment section, just goes to show how impactful this show was in it's design. I'm not in disagreement with that it would have been better to get, at least, one sentence of context from him to explain his racism. And I'm talking more about the ending than him personally here, but I think it's better that this show just let's him leave. It doesn't give you an answer. It puts the thought in your head and then you have to sort it out on your own. That's why we have these different perspectives here, and that's great! A show that came out and ended years ago is still opening the door to positive debate for such a troubled topic.

    I'll take a stab at explaining what the bear fight taught Robin during his quest episode. In martial arts, and physics, weight means power. Something as simple as two people of the same height and gender, running forward at the same speed, then weight determines the outcome. This is the major reason why weight classes exist. So, when someone goes above his or her weight class and wins, then you know the fighter is something special. So back to the episode, the bear is the big, nimble, strong, and heavy fighter. Robin cannot out muscle the bear, as he could with the snake or monkey, and he cannot use his speed against the bear as the bear can keep up with Robin, and the bear uses the environment to encumber Robin. Thus, Robin has to learn how to make use of the bear's physical qualities, and the bear's habits; the most common combos and sequences the bear uses or the bear's kata's. By taking risks, and attempting his own new kata's, Robin open up the bears defenses and scored a win. This isn't really well reflected in the final battle towards the end, as the show writers basically said Robin's bear techniques relied on brute strength, instead of using akido esk techniques (using your opponent against himself, moving 1 ton with 1 pound of force, etc.)

  • @youngthinker1

    @youngthinker1

    @A piece of fucking sliced white bread! in a typical fight, it lasts less than a minute, with the first blows determining the out come. So, Bruce Lee, while an amazing fight, is what 5 foot 2 and maybe 120 pounds wet? Against someone that is 6 foot 3 and 260 pounds, I think sort of typical heavy weight fighter stats, he would lose. 1. Reach advantage, even a difference of an inch in reach can be difficult to overcome, much less a foot, in this hypothetical match. 2. Speed difference, Bruce's skills involve close range, as in well within his reach, techinques. We could talk about how fast he is, then you have to consider how fast he needs to be. For instance, try getting behind someone via running around them. Unless they do something stupid, you cannot do it. In the same vein, Bruce may be able to deflect punches, which hurt by the by, but he would need to then close more that a foot of space in order to counter attack effectively. In essence, he would have to close that gap faster then his opponent returns his fist back to himself, which as in the previous case, Bruce will lose. So yes, Bruce may be faster, but when we break it down to the nitty gritty, he isn't fast enough. 3. Endurance, fight takes more out of you then any other activity. As someone who has regularly fought with people more than 100 pounds then himself, you will tire out faster. Doesn't matter if you have way better endurance, and pound for pound strength, moving something that heavy is exhausting. So if Bruce wants to deflect a punch with his say 20 pound arm, and the opponents arm weighs 40 pounds, and has the velocity of say 40 miles an hour, then how much force must Bruce generate to deviate this large amount of force? I would say about 30 miles an hour of velocity would be needed to force the punch to move off topic. Bruce had amazing endurance, but taking, redirecting, or blocking a couple of those punches, will take it out of him. (The physics is a bit rough, but you get my point.) I need to leave, but I hope this helps you understand the physics of a fight better, and have a better understanding of fighting in general.

    I had a different take on what the show said about fate. Raven becoming the portal was inevitable, the fight with Slade and the fire demons was unwinnable. However, her choice to give her power to the other Titans overturned the consequences of an inevitable tragedy. Her faith in her friends let her move through the horrible thing she had to go through and she became stronger. In the words of my favorite author: "“I do not believe in a fate that falls on men however they act: but I do believe in a fate that falls on them unless they act.”

    Many of the big events in life are inevitable(death, suffering, longing etc.). How we respond and the choices we make will determine the outcome of these foregone events. I don't know if this fits your definition of fate or not. Fate, as I see it, is anything that will inevitably occur regardless of your choices. What happens in the wake of these events is determined by choices. No choice can prevent the inevitable but the outcome can be altered within certain bounds. In the show, had Raven not embraced her friends she might have ceased to exist when she became the portal and the world would have been lost. She made a different choice and the outcome of the inevitable changed. One thing she had no choice about was becoming the portal. Am I getting clearer or making it worse?

    Doesn't stop them from filing a DMCA claim if a video gets too many views or the copyright owner randomly takes notice witch has happened to me with both Warner Brothers/Turner (for my review of See Me Feel Me Gnomey) and Toei. I was able to counter the claims in most cases though because KZread complies with the Notice, Takedown and Putback part of safe harbor barring some exceptions like UMG and they sometimes refuse to put back a video when it was removed in bad faith just because they feel your explanation of why you think the content should be restored wasn't good enough or because you didn't properly fill out the counter-notification. Just claim fair use and don't put obviously fake info in the counter-notification (you can fudge it a bit though, like not using your real name for example because these things never go to court when a big company is involved, Lenz vs Universal notwithstanding, that was Lenz suing them and not the other way around anyway)

    As far as Robin and Starfire, I can't think of another couple in television that had so much respect for one another, perhaps Aang and Katara? Honestly they felt like friends as well and not just the "necessary love interest." Raven's arc was just so amazing in giving the feeling to me like Raven's doom was inevitable, there was no mistake. I felt her fear, like TT would never be the same as long as this arc took place. By far the best part of all this was when Raven finally confronted Trigon with her "you are not my father" speech. I am blessed to have a good relationship with my father, and this speech is a great reminder of what that can look like. Also on your comments about religion, were you raised a calvinist or something? Last thing, I really enjoy this series, and I hope those vampires striking your videos get a slap in the face.

They had a friendship dynamic and respected one another. As the show went on, you could see each couple explored the idea of being something more, and eventually both worked out. The only issue I have with the Trigon arch is the lack of serious interaction the other Titans have with Raven. Robin and Ravens relationship is fantastic but up until this season I feel most of Ravens development has come from interactions with the other Titans. Beast Boy in particular. I think a third of the raven focused episodes have Beast Boy playing a major role so for him to have such a minor role in her big arch I thought was a little strange.

    Seasons 1-3 were good, and some had great moments, but time and time again, when I come back to this series, I am affirmed that season 4 was indeed as great as I remembered. Though one thing I would like to add is that I think it is really fascinating what people take from Raven's arc. Even to this day I am not entirely sure how I would interpret Raven's arc with regards to destiny and free will. After all, she never really stops believing in the prophecy, and willingly becomes the portal and fulfilling her destiny. It seems to imply that destiny does exist, but that we can't know its entirety. So while Raven becomes the gem and portal, thus bringing Trigon to Earth destroying all things mortal, once her destiny is fulfilled, she is free to fight back against what she unleashed, and ultimately finds redemption and victory through faith and trust in her friends. It also begs some really interesting questions, such as was she ever really in danger in seasons 1-3, since she has to live to bring Trigon to Earth, making her effectively immortal? Also, might the prophecy have been subverted if she let the other Titans die and stayed in the safe room? It's incredibly nuanced and part of why I love the season. There are elements of both fate and free will, and it is possible to see both be present in her struggle. She was both destined to end the world, but at the same time free to try to make things right again.

    Good point! It almost implies that Raven is destined to defeat Trigon. It is also interesting to note that Raven isn't particularly in a solid mental state in "how long is forever", implying that she went through some particularly bad trauma since the Titans disbanded, most likely from whatever she did to stop her father.

I find that the garb is also an interesting thing, because Raven only wears it when in she is the most open about her fellings. It reminds me of the color coded ravens wayy back in S1. White is a unisson of all colors, while black is a lack of any. Black raven hides her emotions and White raven lets them be on the surface, for good, or for evil.

    I especially liked how Raven's energy is a brilliant white for the final battle, as opposed to the usual dark. It like even though her power initially came from Trigon, she uncovered one of her own. I'd like to think it's not quite as black and white (pardon the pun) as we're led to believe. It's not just good vs. evil, but just like how her magic is controlled by her emotion, this new power comes from the bond she shares with her friends. She loves them as her true family, so it's an especially powerful moment for her in that it show's how far she's come as a character. So it was a little off-putting when the remainder of the series went back to the dark energy instead. It's Cyborg all over again; changing the rules for the lead just for that one moment.

    If anything these videos could increase hype and the potential profit of the hinted at 6th season that may or may not come out. This video does not compete with the teen titans tv show and it would be pretty hard to argue that it is "ruining" their business. Hell, him using video from the show could even be protected under fair use as criticism since the series is about whether Teen Titans was good or not and he analyzes the series to see what it did right and what it did wrong.

    My only "man, I wish they could've fit this other thing in there" with the Raven arc is including the Chidren of Trigon. As in the comics Rave is one of the *main* 7, these 7 primary Children being analogues for the 7 Deadly Sins. Raven represents Pride, as she was the only sibling who not only rejected her father - but also took "pride" in her life and the good she and her new found friends had done. Of course this Pride descriptor is specifically what Trigon views her as; a proud, irreverent, and bratty girl who's constantly denying the reality of her father's rule, it's not actually how Raven herself or anyone outside of Trigon's circle views her.

    I thought the Shadow fights were good because of how they reflect how Cyborg, Starfire, and Beast Boy deal with their dark thoughts. Beast Boy is the youngest so his inner struggle isn't as bad. And it reflects with his fight, aside for the diss about Terra he largely kicked his shadow's ass. On the flip side Cyborg has always struggled more than anyone else with his robotic half and his shadow takes full advantage. There's not one instance where Cyborg gained the upper hand, his shadow could have and would have beaten him without the support of his friends. Star was about even, she could only pick on her obsession with Robin but her and Robin are in a good place so it wasn't enough to break her but it's still a weakness. I don't know maybe i'm reading too much into it but I really liked the shadow fights.

    There never were any hint of conventional racism throughout the show, so I don't think Cyborg just decided not to talk about it and instead went with the part-robot part. Being half robot has been a huge part of his character this entire time. Being black hasn't been a factor at all, as far as I can remember. I don't think it's a stretch to assume that Teen Titans takes place in a place where racism would be uncommon, and therefore you can't simply assume that because Cyborg is black, he must've experienced racism. (I don't think it's something that's fair to assume of any black person in, say, America, tbh) Hell, like I mentioned earlier, he's way more conscious of being a cyborg, so he'd be more liable to seeing people reacting to that than to him being black.

They go absolutely all out for her and each Titan show some type of new ability or technique while fighting. Robin uses dual staffs for I believe the first time, Starfire unleashes a starbolt the size of a damn school bus, Beast Boy CONSCIOUSLY CONTROLS the Beast from “The Beast Within” episode (which is a call back because Raven told him knowing when to let it out is what makes him a man), and Cyborg literally uses the Tower to basically turn himself into a weapon of mass destruction. I know in the end it didn’t matter because they still lose..but I swear every time I go back and watch it I get emotional 😭 thanks so much for making these videos-I enjoy them so much. Raven is a character who is deeply personal to me, because in many ways I feel like I'm very much like her in both the literal and metaphorical sense (the main difference being that I'm male). Growing up, and even still today, I've always been somewhat of a shut-in and have been dealing with issues such as anxiety all my life. On top of that, I relate to Raven's issues with her dad because of the abuse I received from my own dad for the first 15 years of my life until my parents divorced; for once, I saw a way out that wasn't suicide. I genuinely thought that I was inevitably going to have to kill myself to get out of my situation because I didn't see another way, and I love that just like Raven, I found another way. To me, this arc and Raven as a character are so deeply connected to who I am that it's impossible for me to watch this show and not see myself and my struggles through her; that just makes the show all the more special to me, because it reminds me what I've been through and also reminds me that there's always another way out.

    I'm sorry I can't help support your content, because it is brilliant. But as I have recently lost my job and had to start my life over from scratch, I have no means to do so, so all I can do is watch your videos and comment my thoughts. As far as Raven's arc goes, it's easily one of the strongest arcs in the series (the only one that comes close for me is Robin's arc in season 1, and I had to reorder the episodes to make it work to its fullest potential). But there is one flaw in my opinion that you failed to mention. Multiple times during the arc, the show talks about how Robin is Raven's closest friend. But Robin is never shown interacting with Raven on the same one on one level in previous seasons that Beast Boy, Cyborg, or Starfire get to. The closest thing to deep friendship we see from Robin is his stance in "Nevermore" that if Raven wants to be left alone that the other Titans should respect her wishes. While I believe that Robin and Raven could have a very strong rapport because the writing and acting is that good, this is a clear case of telling instead of showing and it kind of comes out of nowhere.

    Great observation on Robin and Raven's friendship. I think there is a way that the writers could work around that flaw though and it is exactly what makes it so believable despite little showing. Both Robin and Raven are very private people. It would stand to reason that we don't see them interact one on one much, because they don't need to. Robin comes from a more grounded space but dealing with Batman for years plus being an orphan gives him plenty of emotional turmoil and a heavy and dark dose of reality to work with. Raven comes from a mystical place but also has to shoulder the looming threat of her father and her loneliness from the disappearance of her people. They have to deal with different kinds of darkness but they can relate to each other in a way that they cannot with the other members of the team, who are usually more optimistic and light-hearted. Their relatively high emotional maturity could help them understand each other more quickly and resolve conflicts more satisfactorily.

  • @EdgeyvonKarma

    I agree with pretty much everything you're saying, but an occasional moment between them wouldn't have gone amiss and would have only strengthened this arc. Maybe with an extra line during Raven's look into Robin's mind during "Haunted" about how she understands him a little better now. Maybe if there was a scene at the end where Robin came to her asking just to talk about what happened with Slade and his trauma. Robin isn't Batman, despite how much he tries to be sometimes, and one of the ways his character always distinguished himself from his mentor is his willingness to open up and be vulnerable with people he cares about.

    Amazing work as always man. Best of luck with the copyright disputes. That's a rough thing to go through. We all appreciate the work you've put into this series. Each part since the beginning has been high quality, and we thank you so much for that. With that said, this season is my favorite of Teen Titans for all the reasons you laid before us in this video. They took all the good things about the first few seasons and made them better than ever. Action, writing, character development, humor, fight sequences, etc.The season also goes to show just how complex a character Raven is, and it's admirable that despite being declared the portal to the end of the world, she still chose to be a hero. Showing Robin as that beacon of hope in the finale was well done. It showed how much he's grown as a leader and team player. Like you said, the fact the Titans went thru hell for Raven (and vice versa) goes to show how much they care for one another. They are willing to risk everything for the good of each other. That's what true teams do. The Titans are a family. It's why I love shows like this and Avatar. The team does more than just fight bad guys. They show genuine care and love for one another, and stick up for each other through any circumstance. The family dynamic is shown early and often, and I cannot get enough of it. Not to mention the episodic episodes were fantastic too. My faves were Troq, Stranded, and Don't Touch That Dial. All were amazing in their own way. I'm also very excited to hear your thoughts on Starfire later on in the series. Episodes like Troq make her stand out for all the right reasons. The fact she still valued Val-Yor's life despite his racial prejudice against her was very admirable. One of the many reasons she is my favorite Titan. Not only her deep sense of love, compassion and loyalty for her teammates. She also goes to great lengths to save those around her, even if they dislike her just because of her race. She's a lovable and courageous character.

    Honestly this arc is just "meh" for me, while I like Raven's development and the action but there is something in it that drives me crazy: why is Robin the one Raven connects to here? Raven says that Robin knows her better than anyone... While the two do have similar personalities, Robin was actually the Titan Raven had the LEAST interaction with up to this point! Anytime the two spoke it tended to be a brief interaction, while Raven had several episodes devoted to her relationships with the other Titans (especially Beast Boy). The relationship between the pair played a big role in the this arc, but the writers treated it as something that had already been established, which wasn't the case at all. This might... "Might" being the key word here, be an allusion to the events of "Haunted" wherein she briefly mind-melded with Robin and got a glimpse of his past with the implication being that during this, Robin got to see her past as well. The set up however isn't exactly well executed since that after that sequence they still shared very little meaningful screen time; and comes off like an asspull anyway as a result. It would make much more sense for Beast Boy or Starfire to be Raven's supporters, given how much they have had personal episodes together. I'm sorry, but that was really sloppy writing and just kinda makes everything ring a little hollow. The whole destiny and fate denial moral also just feels really silly and tacked on, what if supposedly fighting fate actually was what fate and destiny had intended and the bad guys had it wrong? Just because you think you aren't following fate doesn't mean you aren't.

  • @emilyg5841

    @emilyg5841

    3 жыл бұрын

    That’s exactly the point of this arc. The reason why Robin is the one that connects with Raven is based of the fact that they had very little meaningful screen time together and their relationship was not developed or explored. They also do seem to understand each other better than anyone else. Beast-boy doesn’t seem to understand Raven to the point we’re he calls her “creepy”. Cyborg and Beastboy don’t respect her privacy at all. Star-fire doesn’t seem to understands Raven emotions very well. Robins personality shows he respects her and understands her even if they have almost no meaningful scenes together. Like you said Raven has had many episodes devoted to her relationships with the other titans except for Robin. This arc was too show their relationship. If they had focused on Raven and her relationship with another titan in this arc it would have made absolutely no sense since those relationships were already established. For example cyborg and ravens friendship, best boy and ravens brother and sister relationship etc. If they had just focused on Raven and another Titan besides Robin then there would basically be no relationship connecting Robin and Raven it would be as if they’re not even friends, as if they don’t interact with each other at all like you said. This is why it had to be Robin to show his and Ravens relationship. Based off your comment i’m guessing you’re a fan of Ravens relationship with Beast-boy but they already had there relationship established in episodes like Spellbound and The Beast Within. While Robin and Ravens relationship had not been developed up until this arc. Which is why Robin and Ravens relationship is shown in this arc and developed.

    I think my only major flaw with this arc is that it’s Robin and not Beast Boy who goes to find Raven in the underworld. I’m not saying this as like a shipping thing or something, it just makes a lot more sense. Robin, while he has improved as the series went on, has never been the type to be so open and caring for a member of the team. Of course he loves them, but the way he was written this season feels out of character, like they just started writing him that way in order to get him to go after Raven since he’s the main character. Meanwhile, we are shown multiple times throughout the show that Raven and Beast Boy have a strong bond. Examples include the hug after he talks to her about her bad “break-up”, the episode where he and Cyborg enter her consciousness, and the start of this arc where he gives her his lucky penny because he thinks it’ll help. The camera even makes a point of dramatically showing her drop the penny when she gives in to Trigon, as if it’s a big deal, but it’s never followed up on. We never get a payoff to the bond they have exhibited. It would’ve been so great to see Beast Boy find the younger Raven, carry her out of the underworld, and maybe even gift her back the penny saying he gave it to a close friend before. It would tie things up nicely. As for Slade, well, if we still wanted those moments between him and Robin he could simply stay up there with Robin and help fight Trigon. Or, we could have him travel with Beast Boy to get an updated stance on their relationship after the whole Terra incident. The comics had a scene where Slade and Beast Boy sat in a coffee shop and discussed Terra. The show having a similar moment would be really good.

    As for the Robin/Raven relationship, I see it as two birds of the same feather. Robin and Raven are two birds (duh). They're both encroached in darkness. They both have an overpowering father (Batman/Trigon) to overcome. They both want to realize themselves despite their legacy. They both doubt about their ability to succeed. Of all the Teen Titans, Robin understands the most Raven's situation. And as the show tells, Robin look at Raven's hope to find the strength to fight more. Quite ironic when Raven was always presented as the "emo" of the team. Plus they are equals, or at least similar, on an intellectual level. If Starfire gives Robin a hug whenever he feels low, Raven will guide him to the answer he seeks. Robin/Raven connects on the soulmate level, where Robin/Starfire "stays" on the feelings only. That's why this love triangle is so interesting : Robin needs Starfire light's to keep his own darkness away, but looks after Raven's wisdom to grow as a full (superhero) adult. It's the heart vs brain kind of love. And of course, the gloomy, shy, silent, asocial girl getting the quaterback in the end, is just icing on the cake, as lovecoms go.

    Lowart, I love your content and your views on every subject that you analyze, this video is Amazing (props to jack BTW good quality edits) the themes on this season are jeihhekhe (not words, I know) and growing up it meant so much to me for so many different reasons, and the fact that you mentioned that made me realize how powerful animation is and how meaningful can it be. This is the best season of teen Titans (even though the end of s5 is fairly good and a tear-jerker). THANK YOU for making this series and for making all of your content, (I don't know why but it means a lot to me), if I could support you I would, sadly reality is hard. That being said I will watch everything you upload, no matter how far in between the videos are, no matter the series, be it anime (like your movie reviews) or American/canadian animation. To end this comment I would like to send you positive vibes and mental support, I truly hope WB will let you keep the money (they can't be THAT ruthless) all in all you're promoting a series that is long gone and with a new revival (allegedly) of the TV show any publicity is good. Greetings from Chile, take care and keep making your awesome videos ;)

    Normally BB, Starfire, Cyborg, and Robin would’ve died, but you overlooked something explicitly stated in that very episode. “The last thing I heard was her voice. It said, ‘Be safe.’” Previously it was shown that she “did something” (later revealed, she put an amount of her powers into each one of them) to them when she knocked them unconscious. This was was an obvious sign that Raven’s last wish was for them to survive, and she did what she could to make that happen, using powers passed down to her by her father to protect her friends from her father’s power-it would be more than enough to protect them from him. So it actually makes perfect sense for them to have survived, instead of it just being there for convenience of the plot.

    Raven as a character was always someone I felt I could relate to since my youngin' days. Her arc, even back then, made me see and feel something that few other characters have since; what true care and support is and what it looks like. Though, first watching it back then didn't quite register. I also had a certain religious upbringing, but it had more to do with toxic family than the fate angle. I'm not quite certain as to any point I'm making, but at least that maybe other people can relate somewhat. Really enjoying this series still and hope the issues mentioned pan out. I really enjoyed the original Teen Titans series growing up. However the exchange between Cyborg and Starfire (10:00) about racial prejudice has always been a dissonant moment that bugs me to this day. When Cyborg says "of course I do I'm part robot" they completely back down and puss out of the real world connection. I know nuance has its values but in a show meant for young people sometimes being direct is best and shows you actually stand behind the message. Growing up as an African American youth the wasting of this moment bordered on hurt for me.

    10:10 I want to give an opinion on the racial element of this episode that I don't like as much. While everything you said is totally on-point, I actually hate the line "I'm part robot" because it feels like the writers are telling and not showing when they have such an opportunity. If Cynorg had left it at "of course I do", we as the audience woulf have been left to wonder whether he was referring to his robot half. or even just that when he was all human, that he was still a racial minority. Which shows how trivial his race really is when it comes to discrimination, because people ALWAYS find reasons to seperate each other into groups, and Cyborg's race is just another way to do it aside from his robotic parts. Instead, all of that potential nuance is squandered with Cyborg flat-out saying that he's part robot. It's not a bad thing, but if Cyborg had just had a stoic face for that period of time instead, I think it would be a much more impactful scene

She basically kickstarted my love for real complexity and depth in animation, and it’s because of her that I’m currently pursuing my career. I’m a little apprehensive of how you’ll feel about the fifth season. I adore it, of course, but I know it’s a lot shorter than the others and they took a different direction with it. I can’t say the show HASN’T peaked here, because Raven, but I also hope that you’re satisfied with the series as a whole and it doesn’t end on a note that’s too disappointing. Good luck with all your work!
