I appreciate this video. Because I’ve been looking for a way to use my fader 1 and console 1 without letting go of my normal work flow. I have been thinking about just getting rid of it. Thanks a lot

Nice! Like that old school approach with the scotch tape etc. And the side of this thing is just perfect. I hope they add midi support if they haven't already? Cause that's where the faderport 16 beats it for me. My needs are little different. Very useful video. Thanks Matty.

This is exactly what I want to do. Great idea. I was thinking the Avid S1 as well but then I would be stuck with Protools( I actually don’t mind PT) You saved me some $$$ as well. :)

Agreed. And I am Studio One user. Faderport is unnecessarily big and cumbersome. It could be smaller. Plus 10 faders is what we need. We think in 10s not 8s. 8 thing is old school console thinking and it's unnecessary. I watched Softube video about this and they said that most students had problems with 8 faders and they decided to use 10 as ten is more logical. SO if I am buying more faders it's going to be Console 1 and not Faderport for my Studio One. Because 10 faders and because size. They did it for people like me without old school stigma of 8 faders and big size. I have Faderport 12 and it's still unnecessarily big. It could be smaller like previous version but they made it longer for no reason. I wish it was shorter by 5cm.

Interesting use of the Console Fader. I see a lot of GearSpace members, looking to utilise a fader control in this way (just for buses), so I could see it catching on. Also the saturation feature is really nice, it can definitely help shape a mix. But I'm using the original Console 1 (channel strip controller), and then use a Behringer X Touch for my fader controls (I prefer being able to control my whole mix with faders).

Hey Mike, in what DAW? I’ve had the original Console 1 since the beginning and love it (especially with UAD). The integration into Studio One and Reaper is amazing. Just getting it to finally play nice in Harrison Mixbus 32C, now that they have VST3 (but it’s still not totally there yet). Pro Tools is a lost cause, at least for full integration. (They want us to buy their hardware) I’ve also had a number of DAW Control Surfaces over the years, but I just picked up an X-Touch and 1 Extender, setting up as a poor man’s SSL Nucleus or Matrix. I’m finally building out my dedicated Home Studio, room-in-a-room soundproofed and acoustically treated and tuned, and I’m thinking of getting 2 more Extenders for 32 Faders, V-Pots, and Scribble Strips. Wanna see how it feels to have a whole mix on the board, like an analog console. As well as Plug-in mapping to the Knobs & Screens with fader flip across 32 parameters. How are you using your setup, workflow wise?

@@G_handle HI I’m using the XTouch and Console 1 with Logic, which of course doesn’t have the deep Console 1 integration but for me it’s still better than just using the mouse. I have an XTouch and an Extender, I’ve taken off the grey panels on the inside of both, so they sit flush next to each other. Looks pretty good (a bit like the Nucleus ). The XTouch is a reliable bit of gear actually, Behringer did a good job especially for the price.

@@Truth565 Thanks Mike. Yeah, even with the full integration of C1 in a few DAWs, aside from proper Naming and Numbering of tracks which is key to use the 20 top buttons and fly through a session, the main other difference is the Output and Pan knobs plus the Solo and Mute buttons. That and you can hold shift and control your first 3 Sends. Well I suspect that with the X-Touch(s) playing DAW Controller, I may wanna change the settings in C1 to operate as they do in Logic. Controlling the Outputs of the plugin as a gain stage. So question: where in your signal chains do you place the C1 Plugins? At the front, allowing it to shape your tracks at the start, and adding additional plugs behind? At the end, shaping tracks before they get to "the desk", and allowing the Output level to be used to trim the levels of a static mix leaving the faders at Unity for Automation? Or somewhere in the middle with processing before and after the console emulations? I can make arguments for all three, but I'm wondering workflow wise how the X-Touch(s) are gonna influence things.

Just bought the console 1 fader, but so far in Pro Tools moving the motorized faders doesn't change the mix view faders I see on screen? Not the plugin faders, but the actual Pro Tools ones... Am I missing something? Was I supposed to set it up as a HUI peripheral?

Yah. Console one and pro tools don't work like that unfortunately. Every other daw does though. If you are strickly a Pro Tools user your better off trading it in for a S1.

@@mixedbymatty I just loaded it up on the busses of an existing session and turns out I love it. Mixing with my ears instead of my eyes. Kinda makes me want the channel strip C1 unit now... After I wrote my comment I did a lot of looking and realized there isn't the deep integration with PT yet but for the size of my desk it's a small trade off

The integration with Logic is crap , track selection isn't supported , nor does the console one faders move Logic's faders. The console one software needs VST3 to fully integrate and that isn't supported in Logic. I have had mine for a year and it works well with Ableton and Studio one but I am starting to use Logic much more so I will sell my Console one and buy something else. There is an integration table on Softube's website , you can see what is and what isn't supported per DAW there . I wouldn't waste your money on one for Logic Studio.

I still think the S1is better if all you use is pro tools. Because the UF8 works on HUI which is such a dated protocol. But it is really cool. I'm going to try out the S1 and see if it is better than fader 1 this week

the SSL is made better.. the S1 is kinda deep too.. and the tablet is overkill, id much prefer the UF8.. We have about 20 S1's at my work.. Im going UF8 at home.. HUI is fine, though ill prolly stick with a Dock for more Plugin control.. SSL might put out a third controller thats a master section.. So who knows.
