I was a Seventh Day Adventist for years as I grew up in a family that was SDA. I grew up parroting and arguing the same deception intellectually, but God gave me the grace to start noticing that something was off, and I was basically condemned by my families beliefs. I remember signing the pledge with dread and fear in my heart after being baptised. I didn't want to but I was scared of my parents and I was only 13 so I obliged. I was traumatized by this paradigm and after becoming rebellious and leaving Christianity altogether, Jesus finally found me decades later and showed me mercy. I could not be saved because I was not hearing the gospel, I was hearing the gospel mixed with Ellen White's authority and Sabbatarian doctrine, and we know Paul warns about other gospels that are not the gospel because of falsities and add-ons. Thank goodness Jesus saved me years later in my dining room when two unknown pastors pitched up at my house after God orchestrated an unrelated situation that brought their arrival and the gospel being read. I had rejected Jesus for a long time, even said Christianity was a lie. I almost opened up a New Age business, but the Holy Spirit convicted me that day. He showed me my sins and how He died for my sinful nature and that He loves and forgives me because condemnation outside of Christ is real. He showed me that Jesus is in deed is my Savior and that He is the only cure for sin. Most of all, He showed me how much He really loves me. Salvation is truly a gift. Now I am the one God is using in my family to share the pure gospel, and slowly but surely God is calling the adults in my family. He even uses me to pray for things they have no idea about when they are about to be attacked by the enemy, and because His love has helped me forgive I am only too happy to pray for them. I never imagined God could use me to do his work, especially because I was seen as the worst one where God's things were concerned by SDA standards. That's how God works. All will know him form the least to the greatest as the book of Hebrews tells us.

Nice story. The only problem is that some people say "God gave them the grace that something was off" about mainstream Christianity, and that God led them into the SDA church. So at least one of you is wrong....in fact both of you might be wrong.

Thanks for your hard work brother! I see a lot of anger on this thread. We need to all come out of denominations and truly come together as The Body Of Christ!! The enemy camps are not divided, one sect doesn't say "well those free masons like to sacrifice their prey like this," and other sects recruit people to directly worship satan as deity, and the other saying "we worship Lucifer the light bearer who comes in peace, he's the great architect blah blah blah. No!!! The evil one just doesn't want us worshipping Jesus, because He is The Only Way!! We need to come together as a true church!!!!

William Miller believed that Jesus would return in 1844 , but Ellen G White didn't warn anyone not to sell their possessions before the prediction failed. She wasn't just a false prophetess , but she was a false teacher whose legalistic teaching caused many to be deceived.

One thing my ears picked up on was the reference of the scapegoat. Im not a seventh day Adventist. I came to this video to understand more about them. Part of the problem I have with regular Sunday church in America is their lack of Hebraic understanding. If they had that, they would not be confused about the reference to the scapegoat. Messiah is not the scapegoat, He is the sacrificial Lamb.

  • @DiegoRivera-xg8xd

Exactly. The reason this teaching is so misunderstood is because of a lack of understanding, or even interest, in the Sanctuary. It is clear people think the goat for azazel is the same as the lamb that was sacrificed, which would be the actual blasphemy.

Messiah was not simply the sacrificial lamb and nothing else. He did it all! It was all about Him in the first place. He was indeed what the lamb offered up in atonement represented. He was also the bull that was slaughtered outside the gates of Jerusalem. He was the ultimate scapegoat who took away the sins of the world and descended into hades before conquering death itself. He is what the Passover was signifying. He is the fulfillment of the year of Jubilee. He is what the feasts and ceremonies were all pointing to. He is the true Israel. The Church is His bride, the New Jerusalem. The Old Testament and Covenants all pointed to the glorious fulfillment in Christ! 😊 All this to say, it's not a discrepancy to see Him fulfilling multiple parts of Lev. 16 and Heb. 9 😊

I’m 75. I don’t think this brother in intentionally deceiving people about Seventh-day Adventists but several of the things he says about adventists are not true of all adventist and some of the things he says are not true of any of the hundreds of adventists I have known well enough to learn their names. I have a copy of Early Writings by Ellen White. I read that book when I was a boy and I think I would have remembered if it included anything about Jesus returning during the civil war. But I did re-read page 67 and that page doesn’t include anything about when Jesus would return. There is no record that William Miller ever had a vision about when Jesus would return. There was someone who had an epiphany in 1844 about the meaning of the prophecy of Daniel 8:14 but it wasn’t William Miller and it wasn’t Ellen White. My parents were Seventh-day Adventists before I was born. They were adventist protestants. Dad sometimes recited a slogan he attributed to Martin Luther: “Only by grace, only through faith and only on the Holy Scriptures.” One thing I did find on page 67 of Early Writings was this: “I recommend to you, dear reader, the word of God as the rule of your faith and practice.” I’ve never met an adventist who referred to Ellen White’s writings as scripture. Are there some adventists who, when they speak of Ellen White as inspired, mean that they think of themselves as followers of Ellen White? I’m afraid that is true of SOME adventists. But when my parents spoke of Ellen White as inspired, the DIDN’T mean that everything she ever wrote was inspired and the DIDN’T mean that every bit of advice she gave to individuals in the nineteenth century was applicable to everyone in the twentieth century. My parents - and thousands or tens of thousands of other adventists - subscribed to what I call the principle of prior reference - the principle that anything purported to be special revelation should be evaluated and interpreted by older revelation. Anyone who subscribes to that doctrine cannot be deceived by false prophets. Was Jesus a prophet? Many of the Hebrews rejected him as a prophet but it was because they compared his teachings with what they had been taught was the MEANING of the Hebrew Bible instead of studying the Hebrew prophets of antiquity for themselves. Today, many Christians are making a similar mistake. Instead of interpreting the Gospels and the Epistles by the older Hebrew Bible, they try to interpret the Hebrew portions of the Bible by what they have been taught is the MEANING of the Gospels and the Epistles. Some even teach that Jesus MEANT the opposite of what he said! One Lutheran told me that, if there is a doctrine Luther didn't teach, that doctrine isn’t important. Do all Lutherans believe that? One Lutheran told me that there are things he knows he must do if he doesn’t want to burn in hell. Do all Lutherans believe that? Likewise it would be better to not paint all adventists with the same broad brush.

Thank you explaining the important points to pay attention to w/regards to the doctrines & beliefs in the SDA church. I attended a Pentecostal church for 10+yrs - started to watch SDA videos & decided to attend a local SDA church. I like the idea that in many ways SDA's steer clear of secular ideologies or so I thought. The body of Christ is being infiltrated by perversion on a scale that likely exceeds the sins of the ppl who lived & died in Sodom & Gomorrah. I have recently discovered that the SDA leaders are not exempt from the woke mindset that is permeating the air we breath. I have come to the realization that no church organization is worthwhile spending my time with. Not to discredit the greater church which is the body of Christ... its disheartening to see how deeply the church has been deceived by the adversary... it hurts.

My boyfriend is SDA and he’s never pressured me to join his religion but I decided to do some research on it since it’s such a big part of his life. As a Christian I love that we connected through Christ but I’m a bit confused, I don’t want to join a cult. I don’t want to abide by rules I don’t believe in. The book of revelations used to scare the crap out of me as a kid and listening him speak about it puts that same fear in me. I don’t want to end the relationship because we don’t follow the exact same teachings but I don’t think I can be a SDA.

Err I was baptized in a SDA church and I recognize some of the Jargon but the interpretation is wrong. Their eschatology of Sunday worship as a mark of the beast is after the anti Christ enforces Sunday worship. There is a denomination that claims proof of their authority is changing the solemnity from Sabbath to Sunday The ten commandment is unique from the other commandments of Moses because it was written by the finger of God twice in stone. Why only Keep nine? As far as Ellen G White her sin may be that she failed to rebuke people who called her a prophetess as I read her denial of being a prophet. Anyway don't believe Ellen G White unless you do Act 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

Very well explained Michael, I have wrangled with those who adhere to other cults as well, such as the Mormons and the JW's (let alone Catholicism) - I would say the "kill shot' for these Christian cult's is how they all have their own rendition of the Holy Bible > The Clear Word bible for the SDA's; The Book of Mormon(ism) for the Mormon's {with ties to Freemasonry}... and The New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures for the JW's {w/ ties to the Freemason's too} --- these translations are heretical perversions of the original {Hebrew/Greek} manuscripts that tell of a "different gospel" by a different messiah... it's all a satanic deception at the end of the day. Please do keep your ministry running hot for the Lord in these last days brother... you're rewards will be great indeed - God bless you and your's immensely :)

The spirit behind SDA is one that seeks to draw a person away from freedom in Christ; though a person might be saved despite it. I would hope that the majority of saved people caught up in SDA would love truth enough to eventually leave, though not everybody is at the same point on their journey. My SDA colleague at work is obsessed with the investigative judgement, as if that is the main foundation of his faith over the Gospel.

Is there a Judgement? Daniel 7:10 "A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened." Revelation 20:11-12,15 "And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. (12) And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. 15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire." The Bible is very clear.

I was raised and baptized SDA and attended the church school until grade 8 as well. I still haven't committed to another church though I haven't attended regularly for many years. I agree with this picture of the Adventist church, in that it leans less on these fundamentals and when directly asked, my elders seemed uncomfortable and maybe embarrassed. However, though the church teachings are dictated and overseen by conferences and unions, the individual churches do vary in the extremes. I grew up in a pretty neutral church in Dover, DE, and also attended a couple large churches in WA that were the same. I also attended a couple that were a little scary. So, while every church has it's problems and we are all coming together to learn and study God's plan, the fundamental beliefs held by the church are pretty important.

I'll never be baptized SDA because they require affirmation of EGW's writings as divinely inspired, but I do agree with their practice of holding congregation on the Sabbath. To be clear, I don't believe that keeping the Sabbath or any other commandment is an issue of salvation, and neither does this specific SDA church for that matter. Whether or not that's an SDA denomination doctrine I'm not certain. This church specifically preaches that even though we all sin and fall short of the glory of God, the willingness to keep the commandments as best we are able shows that you have been reborn in the spirit. I believe that aligns well with what Paul said about our relationship with the laws of God after the wages of our sins were paid in full by Jesus Christ. Also, Jesus said we should follow Him, and He kept all of God's laws including Sabbath-keeping.

If any man will do His will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of יהוה, or whether I speak of Myself.* (John 5:30) *I can of Mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and My judgment is just; because I seek not Mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent Me.* (John 5:24) *Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth My word, and believeth on Him that sent Me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.* (Hebrews 10:16) *This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith יהוה, I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;* (see heb 8:10, jer 31:33)

EGW didn't create the 7th Day Adventist church. This can easily be proven. The fundamental statements of beliefs which were written in 1980 were alien to the original pioneer teachings especially in relation to fundamental doctrines 2 and 4 which were never part of the beliefs of the early pioneers of the movement. Fact that EGW has been set up as a sort of 3rd canon of scripture is unbiblical and runs contrary to her own counsel with regard to the use of her writings. This can also be easily proven. What can also be proven is the fact that even though EGW was inspired by God under certain circumstances she was not infallible. Case in point in the beginning she was very legalistic and later after hearing the 1888 Message of Christ righteousness from AT Jones and EJ Waggoner she grew in the knowledge of righteousness by faith without the works of the law. Yet to my knowledge she never actually corrected or explained the Apostle Paul's position in Roman 4 in relation to what was stated in James regarding works and faith. The two positions cannot be reconciled for certain reasons which will not be covered in this brief exposition. The result is that the denomination might promote the concept of righteousness by faith without the works of the law by giving lip service to the doctrine but ever since the rejection of 1888 you hear many SDAs using James as well and they will be stating that its by faith and works and this simply is not true since the Pauline position on the subject matter is properly laid out in Ephesians 2:8-10. The works that we do were prepared by God from beforehand that we may walk in them. So basically speaking everything comes from God even our good works. She also stated that Jones and Waggoner were in fact given that message by God and that these two men were God's delegated Messengers with regard to that teaching which was based on the book of Galatians. Fact is that the majority of the leadership rejected that Message back in 1888 and EGW warned that from that period onward the church would have to watch carefully since the devil would come in with false teachings. This warning was never heeded and today we have seen the results on account of the fact that a proper exposition of the truth has never been given. When the SDA Evangelical Conferences came along in 1955-56 the SDA representatives stated that the Evangelicals helped them to explain their doctrine and that the matter of the cleansing of the Sanctuary in relation to a second Atonement was a question of semantics. The concept of the Investigative Judgement is non biblical and has nothing to do with the doctrine of the cleansing of the Sanctuary. This doctrine was later brought in as an addition to the cleansing of the Sanctuary which is in fact a biblical doctrine. Miller's chronology was in fact correct but what was not correct was the belief of planet earth being the Sanctuary which was to be burned with fire. The early Millerite Advent movement actually spawned about 4 or 5 different groups. The one that became 7th Day Adventists were the ones that studied the Sanctuary in Leviticus 16 and arrived at the correct conclusion that the Sanctuary was the Tabernacle that was cleansed once a year from the records of forgiven sins.

There are no holy days in the New Covenant. Saturday is the old covenant Sabbath. That is not disputed by anyone. Therefore, don’t anyone judge you in regard to food and drink or in the matter of a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day.” ‭‭Colossians‬ ‭2:16‬ “You are observing special days, months, seasons, and years. I am fearful for you, that perhaps my labor for you has been wasted.” Galatians‬ ‭4:10-11‬ “One person judges one day to be more important than another day. Someone else judges every day to be the same. Let each one be fully convinced in his own mind.” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭14:5‬ “Jesus responded to them, “My Father is STILL WORKING, and I am WORKING also”. This is why the Jews began trying all the more to kill him: Not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, makingi himself equal to God.” John‬ ‭5:17-18. Note that it is the Apostle John who is stating that Jesus broke the Sabbath. JWs don’t like this passage because it’s a clear statement of Jesus’ divinity and SDAs don’t like it because it states that Jesus broke the Sabbath. The inescapable thing is that you cannot have a divine Jesus unless he broke the Sabbath. The New Testament command to gather is “And let us consider one another in order to provoke love and good works, not neglecting to gather together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging each other, and all the more as you see the day approaching.” Hebrews‬ ‭10:24-25‬. The day of gathering and the frequency are not specified.

Brother, you are so misinformed about SEventhday Adventism! SDA teachings are the closest to true biblical Christianity as you get in this world. It is the one church that admonishes people to keep the commandments of God as Jesus Himself said we should do in John 14:15. It, the one church that teaches the truth about each of the topics you discussed. As for Ellen White, she most definitely is a true prophet. Taking statements out of contexts from her writings is a good way to discredit her and to deceive people. Reader, if you want to know about EGW, read her writings for yourself. I recommend The Great Controversy book which you can read on line as well as listen to the reading of it on line. 11Chronicle 20:20 states:Believe the Lord your God so shall ye be established, believe His prophets, so shall ye prosper. By the way, in that book you will read the truth about what SDAs believe and lots more, God bless all honest searchers for truth.

I'm not a SDA but it seems like they really just try to follow the teachings of the Bible. Try to follow commandments and follow Jesus and have faith in him. And thats a good thing 🤷‍♀️

On closer inspection by the trained bible person they don't. That is why they can easily fool people.

most of fundamentalist christian churches praise a God that is going to send to an eternal torment those who did not accept Christ's atonement. That is bad theology. SDA church don't believe in such aberration. We believe that God is going to destroy the unrepentant sinner FOREVER, but will not keep him alive. Wrong teaching makes you believe in the wrong God.

I mean, many of her writings are being fulfilled. Also she exalts Jesus. She also writes about it, her writings shouldn’t be exalted and put aside the Bible. She encourages to form a relationship with Him by reading the scriptures. “Steps to Christ” “Desire of Ages” “Christ object Lessons” these are just silent preachers to help those who yet don’t understand the Bible. Many of her writings are bible based. She always states bible verses compared to other “prophets”!

She was a false prophet. There are no prophets anymore in this dispensation (Hebrews 1:1).

I was raised SDA. I would say that it would definitely fall under the parameters of a cult. Many leaders saix that Ellen G white's writings were not holy like the Bible but a majority treated them as such, and would say as such. Especially her book like Patriarchs and Prophets. They would teach us that we were the one true religion and that we would be persecuted in the end for worshiping on Saturday. They warned us to prepare and flee to the mountains. I was raised and went to the schools all the way till High School. It was a lot of paranoia and prepping. Thankfully I didn't go to one of their colleges. Sometimes I think they would take the Bible a little too literally or her writings too literally. I do agree, the food was good but being raised in that Society was miserable. I would say they're up to par with Mormons and Jehovah's Witness on the cult level. Not as bad as some but not as innocent as they seem to be.

Thanks for sharing. I just wanted to say sorry for the way you have been treated. It's really a bad thing when people take the name of God in vain by how they act. I've had some terrible things happen to me by some who use the name SDA to cover their private sin. In the end God will vindicate the innocent. He will vindicate His name and the truth, and His people the innocent ones.

No Jason, The Bible Sabbath was the seventh day. (the Jews still keep) I think the first calendar to have Sunday as the 7th day only came out in 1970s. You can argue that you holy Sunday for many reasons. But no Biblical proof of Sunday keeping.
